Encouraging Words Wednesday and a Link Up

In 1963, a landmark Supreme Court ruling ended government-sponsored

prayer in American public schools.

It’s my understanding, Madalyn Murray O’Hair was one

of the people responsible for this landmark ruling.

Ms. O’Hair was an outspoken atheist and she managed to do

a lot of damage to our public schools (in my opinion).

Ms. O’Hair may have stopped organized prayer in the schools

but she cannot stop us from praying for the

students,

the teachers,

or the administrators.

This past Sunday pastors and lay people in

our community went to each school and prayed. My husband led

a group and was actually able to go into one of the schools and walk

through the halls and pray over the classrooms. Yeah!

Ms. O’Hair cannot stop

students,

teachers,

or administrators

from silently praying at their schools.

Sadly, Ms. O’Hair did not understand that  power of prayer.

This week school begins in our community and although my children have graduated,

I will continue to pray for the students and teachers starting school this year.

We can make a difference!! and prayer is the answer!

Le’s not let Satan have the victory in our schools!

Won’t you pray with me?

“Make this your common practice: Confess your sins to each other

and pray for each other so that you can live together whole and healed.

The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful

to be reckoned with. Elijah, for instance, human just like us,

prayed hard that it wouldn’t rain, and it didn’t—not a drop for three and a half years.

Then he prayed that it would rain, and it did.

The showers came and everything started growing again.” James 5:15 (MSG)

  1. Hi Deborah!
I agree the constitution is misinterpreted! We may not be able to have pray in school but we can certainly pray for them.
Thank you so much for stopping by!
    BLessings,
    Cyndi

  2. Hi Patti!
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! I agree our schools are a spiritual battleground and we need christian teachers and students in our schools.
    Blessings,
    Cyndi

  3. I am so happy to have found your blog. I am a public high school teacher and, believe me, we certainly need prayer. I join with a group of teachers who pray at lunch. Our schools are a spiritual battleground, and I know prayer changes things. Thank you so much for praying for our schools!

  4. Cyndi,

How wonderful that your husband led a group and prayed over classrooms. I think the constitution is misinterpreted — it’s not freedom from religion, but rather freedom OF religion. Thomas Jefferson described a wall of separation (BETWEEN church and state) in a letter. Those words do not appear anywhere in the constitution. The First Amendment to the United States Constitution, stating, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion”, together with the Free Exercise Clause (“… or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”), make up what are called the “religion clauses” of the First Amendment.

I so enjoy your blog and am praying with you.

    Gods Blessings,
    Deborah

  5. Pamela I have read some things about Ms. O’Hair and her family. She was so evil and I can’t believe our country allowed her to influence us in such a powerful way. So thankful one of her sons accepted Christ!
    Thanks for stopping by!
    Blessings,
    Cyndi

  6. Cyndi,
I am so glad God led me to your site this morning. And, I am so very thankful for the blessing (honor and privilege!) we have been given in prayer. To be able to come boldly before the throne of grace…. Thank you, Jesus!
Happy to be linking up with you today. 🙂 Thank you for providing this moment of encouragement!
    Blessings!
    ~Stacy

  7. I hope your church receives a double blessing for their concern for children. It was beautiful to read.

An interesting note: A few years ago I read a book by Ms. O’Hair’s son, William Murray. Her evil went far beyond taking prayer out of school, yet in God’s gracious grace was able to claim Jesus as his Savior. What an awesome God!

This is my first time to link up with Encouraging Words Wednesday. Thank you for providing the link.

I hope your day is full of joy,
    Pamela

  8. I love how you said, she did not understand the power of prayer. She can stop organized pray but she will not stop the Christians from praying for the schools, students, teachers and districts. I homeschool my children, but I have been praying all week for those going back to school.
