Can You Mix Fashion and Jesus?

Well, The Relevant weekend had some of this…………...

snow in October. Uggh!

Thankfully we were nice and toasty inside and I don’t think we missed a beat!

In case you don’t know, The Relevant Conference,

is a women’s conference for bloggers who have a heart for Jesus.

Not all of them blog about Him specifically but we all have Him

as our common thread.

We eat lots of chocolate and drink lots of coffee…...heaven!

All of the speakers were amazing but Tish from Simple Mom said some things

that probably spoke to my heart the most.

Tish shared about being in your element - that place where your passions

and gifts meet on your blog.  It doesn’t always mean that we shout Jesus

but as christian bloggers his light will shine.

Most of you know, who read my blog regularly, that I’m a pastor’s wife. I love

ministry and I love sharing what God is doing in my life. I will always share

about Jesus on my blog and encourage women to grow closer to Him.

But something you may not know is I love talking about make up and fashion,

great hair products, moisturizers etc. I shop bargains and of course I shop for

things that Moms can wear and use in everyday life.

I have always dreamed of doing make-up on women and then sharing with

them the most important beauty is on the inside and it begins with Jesus.

How cool would that be??

I can’t tell you how many times my Mom let me do her hair and make-up

over the years. While she was sick and dying with cancer I would do her make-up

and hair for her on the days she felt like it. Such sweet memories!

Truthfully, I kind of feel like an oxymoron…….Pastor’s wife who loves fashion.

But Tish reminded us this weekend that God made us and he love us! We all have

different passions and hobbies. My sister, Traci loves DIY and she is in the process

of adding on to her house, and she just tore her kitchen cabinets down…..she’s in

a mess but she loves it! It’s her passion but so is Jesus.

I definitely want to share about Jesus but some people may not come to

my blog if they think I only talk about Jesus. But they might come if I share about

my favorite moisturizer and then find Jesus on my blog.

Does that make sense to anyone?

I’m still doing some soul searching and praying but you might see some changes

in the next few months. We’ll see!

I would love to hear from you! What do you think? (I have to admit, I’m a little scared

of this question) :-)

Have a great day!!

I can’t think of a combination I would love to hear about more…Jesus & make-up! I am blessed to be a child of God and gladly proclaim Jesus as my Savior. I feel better and am more confident when I look my best which includes make-up and hair products. I look forward to more of this in your blog, Cyndi!

Cyndi, God gives us all different passions. As you said, our love for Jesus is the bond that holds us all together. We are to shine for Jesus – it’s what on the inside that makes us truly beautiful. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t care about the outside. I think the fact that the words Tish shared spoke to your heart is important. Follow where God is leading you. :) Many blessings!

Oh that’s some great revelation right there. I’ve been thinking that I would love to talk more about my struggle with weight loss, and maybe start a recipe page. I’m not sure how to do that, but am trusting the Lord will show me! I pray I get to attend the Relevant conference next year.

I am a Grandma too, a little older than you, but I would LOVE to hear someone that is not 21 talking about makeup and hair ideas. I love the Lord too and just want to be my best for Him in every area of my life. Go for it!!!!

                                  Oh, Cyndi!
I absolutely adore what you are doing now and the balance seems entirely appropriate (heavy on Jesus, seasoned with fashion) as is! I hope you won’t overhaul too dramatically, but certainly will stick around to see what’s up as you follow your sweet heart!
I understand the idea of widening your audience and I think it’s certainly something we all need to consider in the ways we reach out to those who have not yet responded to God’s call, sadly I think (and I’m thinking of the current trends in worship—contemporary worship in “non church” venues, preaching from the “pulpit” that is light on scripture so as to appeal to the lukewarm more) the result is a watering down of ministry. Please be prayerful about that! :-)

You know how I feel about this!!

                                      I remembered something: when I first believed in Christ, the first words out of my mouth to the friend who prayed with me were: “Oh, no! Now I can’t be an opera singer any more!” {I was in school training to be an opera singer :) did you know that??}
My fear was that I had to wear sack cloth and go to a foreign country, and that Christ did not want me to be me.
Fortunately, she was wise for her 20 years, and she told me that everywhere is the mission field. THat God would USE my passions to put me in places where I can speak truth to this fallen world. I have never forgotten her words and encouragement.

I pass on her wisdom to you today.

GOD gave you your passions. What matters is HOW you use them. To Him be the glory!

                                        Hi there,
I am so excited I saw your blog. I love what you are doing. God has been working on me in a similar way. From a very young age it was my dream to design clothes and be a part of the fashion world. But when I turned 18 I landed a great government job that I enjoyed and brought much finanical security (something that I lacked growing up). I have had a great career at the agency I worked for, but now at age 28, ten years later God is calling me to move on and follow my dreams. I have to admit it is a bit scary to walk away from a great job, especially in this economy. But I know God has a great plan for me and for the first time in my life I am stepping out of the boat and taking a risk. It would be so easy to stay were I am at, but I would rather be in God’s will and take a risk on him. So anyways, this morning God put it on my heart to google “fashion and Jesus” and I found your blog. I was sad to see so many negative things about fashion and faith on the web, so I was thrilled to find your blog. God given each one of us different talents and abilities and strongly believe He has called us to use them for his glory! Amen:) so you go girl, God is going to use you in a way you could have never imagined. I am excited for you and excited to see what God has in store for me. Glory be to God!
Take care and remember to the the authentic person God called you to be.

Being over 40 I’m at that place where I’m starting to feel so old and ugly. I really don’t have time to keep up with fashion. If you do and want to blog about it, I’m willing to read/listen. Makeup and fashion talk from a Christian prospective and not worldly would be fabulous.

Then I started browsing around and found this post) Anyway, I, too, am a pastor’s wife, and I know what it’s like to feel like you don’t fit the “mold” of that role. I have passions, ambitions, and goals that have nothing to do with my husband’s job. You will be better able to serve alongside your husband as you pursue your own passions because you will be taking care of yourself in these pursuits. I think it’s great! There is NOTHING wrong with taking care of yourself. In fact, I’m in the very beginning stages of developing a ministry that addresses this very issue in women’s lives. My blog is a part of that. Just this week I wrote a post that I think might encourage you. If you decide to take a look, the post is under the “beginner homemaking” menu tab.
I’m excited to be a follower of your blog and watch your ministry unfold.

Dogs are my passion and the tool God has given me to most effectively reach others for Him. While the idea is a bit “out of the box” for most people, the ministry my family has been able to work through over the past several years because of dogs has been amazing and life changing. Like you.. there are many who will visit my dogs blog who would never visit mine (- actually they have over 150 fans and I only have 20)! And in the real world, we can approach people with golden retrievers who’d be offended if we approached with a Bible instead. Our goal is to shine Jesus, as you said.

I can’t wait for her to visit your site.. I know she will be blessed and inspired!
