Simply Sunday…Dealing With Our Fears

Autumn at Mt Macedon

Do you ever have times when you’re fearful? I sure do! I start thinking about the “what ifs” and my mind can get the best of me. My husband reminds me all the time not to fear or worry about things that have not happened and may not ever happen. I know he’s right but sometimes it’s not that easy.

I’ve learned when I start feeling fearful I need to start reading scripture that can calm my fears and remind me that Jesus is in control. So today if you have something that you’re worrying about or feeling anxious over, read His word and know that if Jesus is powerful enough to calm a storm (Mark 4:35-40), He can and will calm our fears.

Here are some scriptures that speak to me when I am fearful:

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. 2Timothy 1:7

So we can say with confidence “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?” Hebrews 13:6

Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things? Luke 12:25-26

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. Isaiah 41:10

These are just a few, there are many more. Today know that with Jesus we have nothing to fear!

Do you have a scripture that helps you when you are fearful?

  1. ALWAYS 2Timothy 1:7. That scripture has been the anchor for my husband and I for 33 years of marriage. We have had quite our share of challenges over the years, (we don’t ask why, we just know that our God wanted us to carry that cross for awhile or forever) and this scripture has always strengthened us. We have it on the bulletin board in my husband’s office, my office, the kitchen bulletin board and scribbled on little pieces of paper tucked around the house.

  2. Dealing with our fears is like dealing with God. Because with God he will calm our fears. We all know that God is powerful and can whatever it is. Thanks for sharing it Cyndi.
