Countdown To Christmas~Light A Candle

It’s December 7th!! This month is flying by and as always I am super busy!

Right now I’m sitting here in peace and quiet looking at my Christmas tree. In a few moments my house will be full of noise as we have six extra guests in our home.

I’m going to have to let my sister, Traci, explain that to you. Her whole family has been with us for two nights. You can head over to her blog and I’m sure she’ll be talking about it in the next few days. Life has been really crazy for her lately!

Anyway, each Wednesday we are setting aside time to remind ourselves to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas. The first week we read the Christmas story, and last week we focused on doing random acts of kindness.

Today, we are going to light a candle. If your like me you have candles throughout your home during the holidays. I love the scents and the warmth that candles add to our home during the Christmas season.

The Bible tells us that Jesus is the light of the world.

John 8:12 says, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

“I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.” John 12:46

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7

So this week, to help us remember that Jesus is the reason for this season let’s light a candle each day. Place a candle in a prominent spot in your home (mine is on my kitchen table) and light it for a few hours each day. Every time you pass by that candle remember that Jesus is the reason we are celebrating Christmas.

If you have children at home this would be a great time to read the scriptures with them and share about Jesus being light in a dark world and it’s important for us to shine His light.

This is a simple way to help us focus on Jesus during the Christmas season. I hope your having a Christ filled Christmas and thank you for stopping by.

What is your family doing to keep Christ in Christmas?

  3. I am so thankful to know that He, the Daystar, from on high, is the Light in this dark world. Oh that those who don’t know, would know! A candle is such good reminder of this! I especially like the soy based ones; less toxic! (maybe!!)
