Does Michelle Obama Read My Blog?

Okay, I couldn’t help myself, I have to mention Michelle Obama’s bangs. Why? Because as women over 40 we’ve talked about bangs.

Last October, I wrote about bangs and how they soften our appearance. Once you reach a certain age, you look better with bangs. (There are exceptions, for instance if you have a cowlick.)

So did Mrs. Obama google hair for women over 40 and read my post? I’m sure she did not! But I think it’s obvious by looking at before and after pictures that bangs soften her look.

Does Michelle Obama Read My BlogCharla Krupp from How Not to Look Old says, “Bangs are a cheap and easy way to chic up your look. They also accentuate the positive and camouflage the negative.” I don’t know about you all but I’m all about camouflaging the negative! 🙂

So what do you all think? Do you think bangs soften our look? What have you done to soften your look?

Don’t forget there’s still time to enter the Liverpool jeans giveaway, just go here!

***This is not a political post just a fun post about bangs.

  1. I love the look of bangs, and agree with you. I wish I had them, my hair is sort of fine, and I’ve tossed about the idea of bang clip on but wonder if they would be to obvious on me.
    You’ve got me thinking …

  2. That is so funny Cyndi! As soon as I heard someone prattling on about Michelle Obama’s bangs, your October post immediately popped into mind! So, I think she DOES read your blog. Her bangs take years off of her face. She always has dressed in such trendy cute clothes, but had “old” hair and never really carried the look.
I started wearing bangs about 4 years ago and I can’t believe I ever went without them! Bangs add softness and youth to any woman’s face.

  3. I have curly/wavy hair and have cut bangs at random times throughout my life. Bangs look fine when I wear my hair straight or with loose, bouncy curls, but not so much when I go natural!!! If I blow dry my bangs but let the rest go wavy/curly I feel like I’ve stepped back in time to my high school days in the 80s!!

  4. I love Michelle’s new look with the bangs, took years off her I think! I always wear bangs hides a lot and are very forgiving!

  5. It seems like every time there’s a discussion about bangs, I must put in my 2 cents worth:) I have a cowlick right in the middle of my hairline and have had bangs since the age of 12. For the ladies who think it isn’t possible because of this, it really is. The key is to dry your hair before it starts to dry by itself AND to use a round brush blowing them straight down and then sweeping them slightly over to one side. That leads me to the other thing that those of us over 40 can’t pull off, and that is a middle part. By just slightly making the part off center it gives a softer look and is more flattering to most facial shapes. Hope that helps!

  6. I’ve pretty much had bangs since high school and that’s a LONG time ago! I look totally different without them. I’ve always wanted to wear mine to the side, like you see lots of ladies do, but I just look so different. Glad they are back in style. Thanks for all the tips in the beauty department and mostly for sharing Christ with all who read your blog!

  7. I agree. I’ve worn bangs almost all my life and love them. They are easy to care for and fun. Plus they come in handy with high foreheads. 🙂

And Cyndi, you look much younger than 40. Gotta be the bangs!

  8. I totally agree about the bangs and happily, there’s a style for everyone. I look like a different person without mine. I was going to comment on MO’s new look, but you beat me to it. It really helps soften her face, although getting rid of the shaved dragon-lady eyebrows would help even more. It’s so unnatural and aging, but no one ever mentions it. CTD

  9. I went to get some as well, but got too confused! I’ll have to re-read you post to see the difference between corrector, , camouflage and brightener! What color do you use, btw. teresa

  10. She used to look so cute when she had them. I don’t see her ever having a problem being taken seriously, so she should revive that look (minus the headband which was too girly for her).

  11. Cyndi,
I just cut my own bangs on Monday, I was off for MLK Day and thought I’d go for it! Lots of compliments too.
Thanks for your blog, I’ve gotten a bunch of your suggestions in the make up department!

  12. “There are exceptions, for instance if you have a cowlick.”
I have a cowlick and sort of have bangs but they fight… Suggestions appreciated 🙂

  13. BTW – I purchased some under-eye corrector this week (after reading your post on it). Thank you, thank you, thank you! (I got the Cover Girl/Olay one at Target.)

  14. I totally agree that bangs soften your look. (I wish Mrs. Clinton would read your blog too. Her hair is very aging.)

  15. I have a cow-lick but my hairdresser is amazing at working around it. My bangs won’t do what yours does though. I use a side part and sweep mine to the side.
