Simply Sunday-Think Happy Stuff

Simply Sunday-Think Happy Stuff

I found this coffee mug in the hospital gift shop (I’ve spent a lot of time in the hospital this week with my family members). It looked so cheery and springlike, I decided to get it. I also loved  what it said, “think happy stuff.”

It reminded me of my daughter when she was young, and I would tuck her in bed at night. She was always afraid she would have bad dreams so after we prayed, we would think happy stuff like Christmas, birthday parties, swimming pools, and playing outside.

I’d list all the things she loved, hoping she would dream about happy stuff. Of course we still had to leave the hall light on and we couldn’t shut her door all the way. But most of the time, thinking happy stuff worked!

I think it’s good to think happy stuff! Philippians 4:8 (NLRV) says, “Finally, my brothers and sisters, always think about what is true. Think about what is noble, right and pure. Think about what is lovely and worthy of respect. If anything is excellent or worthy of praise, think about those kinds of things.”

There’s so much bad and sin in our world, we need to fill our minds and our hearts with happy stuff and the best thing we can fill ourselves with, is God’s word.

Do you have to remind yourself to think happy stuff? Are you filling your mind and heart with scripture?

Have a blessed Sunday!

  1. Thank-you, Cyndi. I live Phil 4:8. Your perspective on life’s blessings mixed with fashion keep me a subscriber to your blog. Blessings to you and your family members in the hospital.

  2. I’ve always believed that their is kind of a collective conscience about feelings like happiness or hate. If everyone manages to think at least one happy thought a day, it send a collective huge prayer to the Lord for some happiness in each of our
    lives.
Conversely, those who think evil and hatred constantly are inviting Satan into their lives and into the lives of those who think the same.
So, here’s to a beautiful Sunday and coming week of happy thought for all of us! BTW, that mug is darned cute. Be blessed!

  3. This is JUST what I needed to hear. The last 2 weeks have been filled with some not-so-happy-stuff. It was weighing me down. Thank you for the reminder to focus on happy stuff! 🙂

Also, your story about tucking your daughter in when she was little reminds me of a comic I drew about tucking in one of my sons: http://www.gocomics.com/inthesandbox/2010/07/06

Thank you for being such an inspiration! Have a GREAT rest of the weekend!!

  5. Love this post…. your memories of Courtney were precious! That is EXACTLY where we are right now with our lil’ guy. He’s scared too, of bad dreams so we’ve been talking about happy things after bedtime prayers 🙂 (like how to spend his gift card at Toys R Us heehee). So cute! But even as adults, I need to remind myself to think Godly, postivie thots. thx for the reminder Cyndi. Hoping your loved ones are better soon….. thinking of you!!! 🙂 hugs

  6. Cyndi, thanks so much for sharing this! I have been working on memorizing Phil 4:8! Love how you put “THINK HAPPY STUFF” with this verse! 🙂 I need to remember this, like your daughter, at night before I go to bed..when the enemy tries to stir up FEAR in my mind! Praying your family members get well soon!
