Lips + Some Reminders

I love trying new lip color. I recently tried Covergirl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm in Rose Twist.

Lips + Some Reminders
This balm is fortified with shea and mango butters and gives you a hint of color. It’s easy to apply and doesn’t have that sticky feeling you sometimes get with lipsticks.

They have several colors to choose from and I plan to get a couple more to wear this spring!

Now that winter is officially over and most of us are warming up, this is a great time to go through our makeup and get rid of what we’re not using.

I also like to get a makeover this time of the year at Sephora or Ulta or any of the makeup places in the mall. I like to change my foundation too!

Some reminders for women over 40:

Although each season brings new trends with makeup, most of them are not things that we need to wear.

Silver eyeshadow swiped all over your lid is a fashion trend this season, but not for us! This is too much for our age group.

Remember we don’t need to over do our makeup on our eyes or lips. A natural look with a hint of color is best.

One thing I see a lot of older women doing is matching their eye shadow color to what they are wearing. This is a no-no and will definitely age you.

Although there are a lot of pretty eyeshadow colors we really need to stick with a shade of brown. Brown eye shadow is always current and appropriate. All you need to do is find the right shade of brown that works for you.

There are several shades of brown: warm brown (caramel, terracotta), neutral brown (chocolate, raisin), or cool brown (coffee, plum).

Keep your lipsticks light too! Dark lipsticks definitely age us.

Do you do anything different with your makeup in spring and summer? Do you ever get a makeover?

(Last year I did a whole series for women over 40 you can find it here.)

  1. I’ve gotten so that I barely wear eyeshadow these days. I find my lids are oilier, I wear glasses and my hoodedness is deeper than they used to be. Even eyeshadow primer doesn’t help that much. BUT what I’ve done new this spring is buy a pretty coral blush and lipgloss (Benefit). Loving this look!

  2. Hi Cindy,
Thanks for all your great tips. I’ve been trying Clinique’s Chubby Stick, which more of a lip stain than a lipstick. I like that it’s not so sticky. The girls at the make up counter at my dept store always have some crazy lipstick or eyeshadow on, and am glad to go in armed with your sage advice.
Happy Spring to you. Severe Winter Weather in MN again today. We are patiently waiting for spring and a change in wardrobe.

  3. I wear less make-up in the summer..more bronzer and self-tanner, shorter, fluffier hair. Also, a slightly darker base if I wear one..I’m all over the bb creams, thanks to you. Currently loving L’oreal YouthcodeBB, (similar to Garnier’s),but can’t figure out how it differs from their AgePerfect one.
I’ll be trying this lip balm I now use Burt’s Bees tinted balm, but I’m always game for something new.
I, too feel like I should be getting younger with all your advice!

  4. You have the greatest tips Cyndi! Thanks for sharing.
    Have a fabulous day!
P.S. I went to Marshalls yesterday and found that darling green dress you showed us. I love it. Thanks.:)

  5. I agree, it’s too much for any age group. I have noticed this heavy eye shadow trend and wonder why it’s coming back…I hoped it went out with the 80’s :p

  6. Toss out the old makeup and head to the drug store with your advice in hand and choose my new “spring face”. I should be aging backwards with everything you have shared so far. (agirlcandream) Thanks Cyndi! Have a Blessed and Beautiful day.
