5 Tips To Healthy Summer Hair

Every summer the sun and heat take a toll on my hair. This year, I’m getting a jump start on my summer hair by being proactive. Today I’m sharing 5 Tips To Healthy Summer Hair.

5 Tips To Healthy Summer Hair

Tip #1-Wear a hat at the beach and pool. Thankfully there are lots of cute beach hats and these will protect your hair from the sun. If you color treat or highlight your hair this will protect your color. If you don’t want to wear a hat but still want to protect your hair, lather on some conditioner and pull your hair back in a ponytail or clip. This acts like a mask against the sun.

Tip #2-Use sulfate free shampoos and conditioners. Sulfate is a chemical added to shampoos and conditioners. It can be drying and I try to steer clear from it. I love using L’Oreal EverPure Volume Shampoo and Conditioner.

Tip #3-Lower the heat on your blower dryer. Although the higher heat will blow dry your hair faster, it also damages your hair. I recommend using an ionic blow dryer with the nozzle attached.

Tip #4-Get a trim or a dusting every 4-6 weeks. If you color treat, blow dry, flat iron, etc., your hair needs extra care. A light trim all over, sometimes called a dusting, will give your hair an instant lift and overall healthier look.

Tip#5-Deep condition your hair once a week. Conditioning is a must for me! There are lots of deep conditioners but an inexpensive and good one is Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask. It’s for over-processed and color treated hair. I use it before I go to bed. I shampoo my hair and then treat it with this deep conditioner. It makes my hair feel soft and healthy!

I love to be outside (especially by the pool!) during the summer but I don’t want my hair to pay the price. I’m using these simple tips to keep my hair looking great!

What do you use to help with your hair? Do you struggle in the summer with dry hair?

Beauty For the Heart~~I’m reading through the book of James. Chapter 3 verse 18 jumped out at me so I looked it up in several versions. I loved reading it from The Message.

Real wisdom, God’s wisdom, begins with a holy life and is characterized by getting along with others. It is gentle and reasonable, overflowing with mercy and blessings, not hot one day and cold the next, not two-faced. You can develop a healthy, robust community that lives right with God and enjoy its results only if you do the hard work of getting along with each other, treating each other with dignity and honor. James 3:17-18

I want to be that kind of woman. Holy, overflowing with mercy and blessings!

Have a blessed day!

  1. I love the book of James, and since it’s so plain-spoken anyway I think it lends itself to The Message. I love The Message!

  2. I was using wen shampoo for over a year.. and I found one hair at Sallys. .it is almost half the price and is now I can skip one day of washing my hair..I think because is not as thick as WEN ..

  3. I forgot to mention, thank you so much for sharing James 3:18. I love my Message Bible. There are times when I just can’t seem to get the feel of a message fro my New American Bible. That’s when I turn to my Message Bible and most of the time, it is an “aha” moment!

  4. I have DRY hair. My stylist had suggested that I not shampoo so frequently. We tried that and to her amazement and mine, the dirtier my hair got, the drier it became. I always use sulfate-free products. I never go outside without a hat. This summer, before I go outside, I’m thinking of slicking my hair back with deep conditioner, putting my hat on and wait to see what happens. Obviously, if I’m going to be outside at a social occasion of some kind, this approach won’t work. Do you know if there are sunscreens for hair? Be blessed dear Cyndi.

  5. I began using Wen hair products a year and a half ago and have not looked back. I love that my hair never gets to that dry, knotty stage between shampooing and conditioning. Only drawback is that I have to wash hair daily, when with shampoos, I could skip a day…
