How To Add A Wide Belt To Your Outfit

How To Add A Wide Belt To Your Outfit

I have a little bit of a belt phobia. I never feel like they look good on me and they seem to accentuate the parts  of my body I’m trying to hide, i.e. my hips.

But lately, I’ve noticed that some of the outfits I’m wearing might look better with a belt. So I decided to give it a try!

In this picture I’m wearing my coral top with a navy blue skirt. I like this summer look, but it needs something.

How To Add A Wide Belt To Your Outfit

Voila! I added a wide brown belt around the smallest part of my waist. Now my outfit has a little more character don’t you think?

How To Add A Wide Belt To Your Outfit

A couple of things to remember when adding belts to your outfits:

  • If you have a short torso, your belt should match your outfit. This way you’ll avoid the contrast that chops up your waist.
  • If you’re petite, a thinner belt might look better.
  • If you have a full tummy opt for dark belts with elastic that can help hold in that tummy.
  • The best place to wear your belt is at the narrowest part of your waist. Also, make sure the belt fits and doesn’t hang loosely.

I’m going to try to add more belts to my wardrobe. Hopefully I can get over my phobia!

Do you wear belts? Do you like wide or thin belts the best?

  1. Belt phobia…so it’s not only me!!I will try wearing belts again, but it’s been years. Thanks for for the pointers..

  2. I just love the dramatic change belts makes! Your outfit is adorable. What kind of self tanner do you use? You look great.

  3. I love belts, leather, suede, chain, metal, cloth and wear all widths. With dressier cardis or blouses I always wear a thin belt. I have one or two or three really wide belts that I like to wear low with a couple of longer tunics and very straight leg pants. Cyndi, I’m glad to know that someone else has a “belt thing”. My sisters tease and cannot understand my belt love and always ask why I’m not that way about jewelry and other accessories…I don’t know why!

  4. Seriously?? 🙂 I use it too, and I think mine is Loreal. Will have to check Sun Labs… wonder if I can find it in Canada. 🙂 Blessings back!

  5. Hi! I love your belted look! I wear belts a lot, esp. with a jacket or sweater over my blouse and belt. I really like your shirt; where is it from? Blessings to you all!

  6. I really, really like that you added the belt. It gives you a more contemporary look. It’s a great added feature.

  7. I like all belts, especially chain and sometimes braided. As you showed, they can add so much to an outfit and accentuate your waist. BTS, you look great in that belt. My BF says I’m single-handedly trying to bring back the wide belt. Glad to know I’m getting a little help with that. CTD

  8. I have this bizarre belt-phobia and always feel like my super-long torso looks funny in them. I haven’t every tried the wide belt though – maybe that’s my shot at belt greatness 🙂

  9. You look soo tanned in the pic, Cyndi! 🙂 I love wearing belts… I do tend to wear thinner ones, altho’ I have a few wide ones I wear in the fall/winter quite a bit. Have a great day (rainy here today; I don’t mind, as I could stay inside all day and do housework 🙂

  10. What a difference the belt makes! I like it! Where did you get the belt? Have you tried the shirt tucked in? I’d like to try belts, but since I”m petite with a short torso, small waist and wider through the hips, the belt really shows how wide I am.

  11. I have always loved belts but don’t wear them as often as I used to. Wide belts are so flattering if you put them in the right place. I like thin or chain type belts for some clothing items like tunics that have no waist. It just looks better to me.
