How To Stay Healthy After 40-Essential Oils

***I now use Young Living Essential Oils, you can read why, here.

Good morning! Let me begin by saying thank you to each of you who left comments on my post yesterday. I was overwhelmed by all your sweet words of love and prayers for our family.

I say this all the time (and my sister, Traci has even noticed this) but I have the nicest readers and you all not only leave comments for me, but for each other. You are such a blessing!

I shared yesterday about our difficult week because I wanted you all to know that my life is not perfect. I hope I never come across that way. I’m on this journey called life and at times it’s extremely difficult. But I can face today because I know Jesus. I am so thankful for that!

Okay now let’s get on to How To Stay Healthy After 40. Today, I’m going to share about essential oils! I seemed to get the most emails and questions about using them.

I know you all know this but don’t stop taking medications that have been prescribed by a doctor. Talk to your doctor before quitting any medication. 🙂

How To Stay Healthy-Essential Oils

First, I’ll tell you for a long time I thought my friends who used essential oils were a little “koo koo.” But I did think it was interesting and I decided to do a little research into them.

Essential Oils are natural aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. They are very fragrant, clean, almost crisp, to the touch and are immediately absorbed by the skin.

Essential oils are used for a very wide range of emotional and physical wellness applications. They can be used as a single oil at a time or in complex blends depending on user experience and desired benefit.

Essential oils are usually administered by one of three methods: diffused aromatically, applied topically, or taken internally as dietary supplements. I personally do all three!

I have been using essentials oils for 4 months and I am hooked! I love them and use them everyday. Come back tomorrow and I’ll share some of the oils I use most often, and how I use them.

Have any of you tried essential oils before? If you have, which ones are your favorite? Click the button in my sidebar if you want to learn more about essential oils.

How I Plan To Stay Healthy This Winter

Beauty For the Heart~~ No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:37-39

Have a blessed day!

  1. Cyndi, do you sell the doTerra products? If so, how can I order them? What I would give for a good night’s sleep?!

  2. I can’t wait to hear more about the oils. I have dabbled in them years ago and actually plan to purchase some lavender essential oil for my night time bath.
    Exciting stuff!
    ~blessings,
    Kelly

  3. I have been dabbling in essential oils for about 6 months. I have been using young living because that is what everyone around here(DFW metroplex) seems to be using. I use lavender oil every night before bed to help promote relaxation and sleep and I use their DI-GIZE because I think a lovely result of being perimenopausal has given me some digestion issues..so I rub that on the bottom of my feet and on my stomach every night as well. I think I may buy their kit just to save money…kind of like buying a costco membership to get the discounts. I don’t want to do it as a business, just use it for my family. Young living has one called Thieves.. http://www.youngliving.com/en_US/products/essential-oils/blends/thieves-essential-oil that is antibacterial and it seems like we are entering into the right time of year to get some of that.plus use it to clean with..so we shall see..I m still a bit skeptical but so far so good! Thanks for writing about this …I may do the same! : ))

  4. Oh Linda that is awful! One thing I’ve learned is essential oils are very strong and you only need a small amount. If it doesn’t work after you’ve used it, then it’s probably not going to. They should not have kept putting more oils on you!
I would be leary of them too if that had happened!

  5. I had a terrible first experience with oils so I am leary of them. I was at work starting to get a migraine. Several friends ran to get their oils. Soon I had several kinds of oils on my forehead, down my neck and in my water to drink. As the migraine got worse, more oils were put on me. I just kept getting worse and worse and still more oils were put on me. I ended up in the ER having to get a pain shot. Terrible experience!

  6. To be honest, I was never curious until now. i am interested in homeopathic medicine, as i dislike the thought of taking prescriptions. Ihave MS and would be very interested in what you think about essential oils. I will make my own choice. So glad you have found the strength to continue your blog, We are all here for you and each other…blessed in our faith!

  7. Cyndi, I have been using essential oils for over a year now and I love them as well! I put them in my homemade cleaning products as well as in the shampoo and conditioner that I make. Lemon is amazing and lavender is awesome for sleeping and for migraine headaches as well! I am praying for you and your family. Thanks for sharing your heart!

  8. I have been using the doTerra oils for over a year now. They have improved my health so much. We use them both internally daily – mixed with water and enjoyed as a drink – and rubbed on the skin. It should be noted that not all oils can be taken internally. DoTerra oils are certified pure therapeutic grade which means they are they contain everything they should to help you and nothing extra to cause reactions or allergies. They are classified as foods and are totally safe to drink or put in a capsule and take.

  9. I just recently started to use essential oils through my Naturopathic doctor and I am having amazing results! The first one I tried I got through the pharmacy at his office and it is called Plague Defense from a company called Heritage Essentials Oils. I paid $28 for a 15 ml size bottle but if ordered directly from the company it is $15.50 so my husband and I ordered some other oils directly from Heritage. At first I was looking at Do Terra and found very good reviews but I personally didn’t like the fact that they are a Multi Level Marketing company. I have also read some good reviews about Young Living Essential Oils as well but have not tried these yet myself. I have many health issues and sensitivities so I like to use all natural things whenever possible. I am looking forward to what else you have to share on this subject. I am continuing to pray for you and your family 🙂

  10. I am glad you are doing this writing on do Terra essential oils. We have been using them for awhile now. In particular we like Breathe. My hsb does have some scents he really does not enjoy ie lavender which we know is beneficial for rest. Oh well at least he likes Lemon which is helpful to relieve some of my thyroid fog.
I am really looking forward to hearing about your experiences. Thank you for this and the reminder of our security in Jesus Christ

  11. I’m interested in this as well. Specifically I’d like to know which oils are good for aiding sleep as well as calming. Are there specific oils for sickness? Thanks and I pray things are going alright for you.

  12. I’ve used them for a long time, but mainly as fragrance for my handmade soap, and in cooking! I’m leery of using them straight on my skin due to irritation and photosensitivity issues, so I’m interested to see how you apply them. I’ll have to check out your source now that Crabtree and Evelyn discontinued carrying a fabulous line. CTD

  13. Very interested in this! Be sure to let us know why you chose which one and how you decided on it…and how you knew which one to take!
May you find peace in your troubled time.

  14. I am happy that you are back on your feet today! A testimony to the power of prayer! Do you know of any oils that are beneficial to women in their early 40’s for help with skin clarity and other signs of aging? How about for tween girls? Thanks friend! Blessings! Susan
