Fashion Over 40-What I Wore

Happy Hump Day! Today I’ve reverted back to summer for Fashion Over 40-What I Wore. We’re enjoying a much needed vacation and the temperatures have been warm. I’m soaking up the last little bit of sun before cooler temperatures head my way!

First, I thought I’d show you the wrap around porch I’ve been enjoying this week. We’re staying in a three story home and the porch sits up high almost above the palm trees. It’s private and quiet and a great place to have my “quiet time” in the mornings. I’m not going to want to leave this!

Okay, now for some fashion over 40 outfits. I don’t have my camera stand with me so I’ve had to ask my family to snap a picture of my outfits. They don’t love to do this (imagine that!) but I did get them to take a couple.

I love color! And I’m going to try to add a lot of it to my fall/winter wardrobe. I don’t want to be in black and gray all winter!

This is a black and gray outfit. 🙂 I added a coral cardigan to this outfit in the evening when the temperature got cool.

One of the great ways to transition summer clothes to fall is to add a cardigan. I purchased several from Old Navy. They have a ton of colors too choose from! Click on the picture if you want to see all the colors Old Navy has to purchase.

Do you try to transition your summer pieces to fall? Have you tried adding cardigans?

  1. I see that this is a post from 2013 but I just have to comment and say how beautiful you look!! I love the blue & mint outfit with gold sandals and the polka-dot outfit too, although I’m not much on the polka-dots for myself… you look so chic in that outfit!! <3

  2. I also liked your post & went to Old Navy during my lunch hour yesterday. I bought 2 of the cardigans. They are so nice & they were on sale for $20 a piece. I would love it if you could give us some examples of how to style the cardigans. 🙂

  3. I’m addicted to cardigans. It started with a beauty my sister got me that is beyond pretty! Now I have to admit I wear them because I don’t like my upper arms. 🙂 they are my security blanket!!

  4. I liked your post so much that I went to Old Navy on line from you link and ordered two Cardigans, 3 pairs of flats and some jeans! I also got 20% off just for signing up for emails. Shipping was free. I hope it all fits. Thanks for the inspiration. Love your blog.

  5. Looks like a post on cardigans is a huge request! My favorite lately is the long in front vests and sweaters they are so figure flattering ! I got a new one from my first Stich Fix and can’t wait to wear it! You look great and hope your vacation is restful !

  6. In the vein of Fashion over 40, I have to add that I wear layers (usually a cardigan and a tank top) because I am about 4 months into hot flashes (blah)so I am constantly putting on my sweater, taking off my sweater, over and over. I am losing my mind or did you once have a post about clothing to wear (to sleep in?) during menopause? Not that you are old enough for it, but I thought I remembered something about it. No?

  7. Hi Cyndi.

You look beautiful! I love your tan. 🙂

I, too, would like to read a post on cardigans. I like them, but there are so many different types, i.e., crew, boyfriend, boxy, shrunken, belted, open, cascading, etc. Maybe you could let us know when we should wear each type, or if we should. I am 5’6″, and I have a cute, open, striped cardigan that I got from Stitch Fix. I always hesitate to wear it because it is a cascading cardigan, and I read that those can make us look short and frumpy. What are your thoughts?

Enjoy your vacation. 🙂 Thanks for sharing.

  8. Love the outfits. I also love the idea of a post on cardigans, jackets, etc. Actually anything fashion pleases me.

Enjoy your vacation. You can think of me slaving away on lesson plans this afternoon! 🙂

  9. The first pic is one of the best outfits I’ve seen you in. Everything is perfect about the outfit AND how it looks on you. I would just wear that everyday and be done!

Did NOT know cardigans or sets were old lady. I look forward to a post to see if I’m doing it right.

  10. I especially love the first outfit on you. I agree with Kim that doing a post about cardigans would be wonderful. Have a blessed day!! 🙂

  11. I love your Wednesday….What I Wore Posts…..they are my absolute favorite and of course when you post what Stitch Fix sent you:) They send you the cutest things…..can you have your stylist just send me the same things they send you? You always know how to pull them together!

I think a post about how to wear a cardigan….both dressy, casual, and with jeans would be a great posts. Sometimes I feel like an old lady might be because I have done the match, match cardigan and shell? LOL!

You are beautiful inside and out! I get so excited about your Wednesday posts I go to your website before I am even sent the link in my email:)

  12. I love cardigans, it is a little cold in my work, too so I like to wear layers. I bought a ton of inexpensive cardigans at ON just recently! I love to buy a few nicer ones too from Loft, too!

  13. What a cutie you are! I know you’re enjoying the warm temperatures for one last week. You DO look awesome in summer clothes! Great tip about adding cardigans to transition to winter. I think you should do a post about how to add sweaters and jackets to clothes to transition to cooler weather. I’m never sure whether a jacket or sweater will look right with what I’m wearing. When should you wear a denim jacket, and when should you wear a more structured jacket like a blazer? Also, you could give tips about how to wear a cardigan without having it look “old ladyish” or look like you’re trying to hide something.

    Love you!

  14. You look simply stunning in that first picture. Every aspect of that outfit is flattering! Blessings to you as you relax and regroup!

  15. Looking good as usual! 🙂 Love the polka dot blouse!! I bet it is super cute with the coral cardigan. Hope your vacation is going great……enjoy the rest of your week!
