8 Fall 2013 Makeup Trends {Part 1}

Yay for Friday! It’s Day 4 of 31 Days of Fall Fashion & Beauty Tips and I’m sharing 8 Fall 2013 Makeup Trends with you.

31 Days of Fall Fashion & Beauty Tips

Before we get started please watch this quick 16 second commercial. Have you seen it? Every time I watch it I laugh out loud!!

This commercial is making a very good point that we all need to remember. Just because it’s “trendy” doesn’t mean we have to wear it. I’m not saying you shouldn’t rock the smokey eye but let’s be careful that we don’t make ourselves look stupid! 🙂

Okay, with that said here are 8 Fall 2013 makeup trends and some of my tips sprinkled in too.

1. Brows, brows, brows! In case you haven’t heard me say this before, thicker brows are in. So don’t over pluck! Fill them in so that they look natural, no lines! (A fuller brow gives you a more youthful appearance.)

I use Brun eyeshadow my Mac to fill in my brows.

2. The no makeup, makeup look. This look is all about finding the right base. Then add minimal color for a flawless look!

3. Lashes! Long lashes are “in”!  Hmmm, so how can we be on trend if we don’t have long lashes?

Two things: 1. Use a good mascara and 2. Add false eyelashes.

I love wearing false eyelashes. I don’t wear them everyday but when I do, I think my eyes stand out. This picture was taken this year on my birthday and I was wearing false eyelashes. They’re not over the top but just give my eyes a little boost. (I’m planning to do a tutorial on applying false eyelashes.)

I also use Benefit They’re Real! Mascara. It’s a best seller on Sephora’s website.

4. Plum or burgundy lips. Okay, I’m not a fan of this. But if you’re in to dark lipstick you’ll love this color. For women over 40, dark lipstick can be harsh. I try to play up my eyes and stick with a lighter lip color.

I’ve shared four of the 8 Fall 2103 Makeup Trends, stop back by tomorrow and I’ll share the rest of them with you. (Sorry I just dislike long posts! I like short and sweet.)

Which one of these fall 2013 makeup trends do you like? dislike? I love to hear from you!

Beauty For the Heart~~Chorus to the song, Were It Not For Grace by Larnelle Harris.

Were it not for grace, I can tell you where I’d be
Wandering down some pointless road to nowhere
With my salvation up to me and I know how that would go
The battles I would face forever running but losing the race
Were it not for grace
Forever running but losing this race
Were it not for grace

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

Have a blessed day!

  1. I bought the Naked neutral eye shadow and love it! It just happened to be my birthday and they gave me a sample of the Benefit They are real mascara and I don’t think I can ever use another mascara ever!!

  2. Dark lipstick is not for me either. I have very pale skin & would look silly. But I like the more natural make-up look since that’s what I do most of the time anyway! Could you give tips on filling in your brows to make them look fuller?

  3. I think the “no makeup makeup” look is beautiful, particularly on the model in this picture. You’re right, her base is absolutely PERFECT! If you’re a woman who has your base makeup nailed down, I think it’s a lovely look to try. Her eyes are gorgeous!
Your feeling is my feeling on the burgundy lips. I think that deep opaque shade and others like it are so aging and tend me make the mouth appear as if is sagging. I tried a darkish purple/brown tone lipstick on for fun when visiting a makeup counter with my sister. She burst out laughing so LOUD, God love her, she just couldn’t help herself. I looked in the mirror and burst out laughing, (with a bit more decorum than dear sister) I thought I looked like a Cruella DeVille! I couldn’t tissue that stuff off quickly enough…burgundy lips…NO.

  4. Funny! Love it! Cyndi I’ve been wanting to try false eye lashes for months! Mine have thinned out over time. Maybe due to my thyroid disease or plain ole aging? I’ve thought I could like the false eye lashes but am nervous about doing it right. So I’d appreciate that tutorial! Thanks so much

  5. I love this series. Sadly, I’m just a few short weeks away from 50 and am very glad to have some help in the beauty department. I am not a fan at all of the dark lip trend, especially for women over 40. Thanks for all you do!

  6. I love that commercial! I laughed out loud too the first time I saw it. Love the “no makeup” look, especially for a day of running errands or outdoor events. Can’t wait for the lash tutorial. I have been wanting to try them but haven’t psyched myself up yet. Please provide lots of details! 🙂 Looking forward to tomorrow’s post!

  7. I too would like to see false eyelash tutorial. Maybe let us know a day before so we can go buy them. God Bless

  8. Hey Cyndi.

I was once a fan of the dark lipsticks, and I did wear Chanel’s Vamp way back when. I think it was the same time I work their dark nail polish. I hardly ever wear a true lipstick anymore. I wear more glosses than anything now. It seems that most lipsticks make me feel like I have “old lady lips.” I once had nice full lips, and now I don’t. 🙁

As for the false eyelashes…I’ve never tried them. I agree with one of the other readers that said they look too fake on a lot of people. (yours look natural in your picture). I occasionally watch QVC, and some of the hosts wear false lashes, and they look so fake. Maybe they just pick a lash that is too long or something. Anyway, I’ll eagerly await your post on this.

I hope you have a great weekend. 🙂

  9. I am so looking forward to the false eyelash tutorial. I have never had the guts to try them. I am sure they have gotten better over the years as I remember comedy shows where one would fall into someone’s soup!! I look forward to your message every day.

  10. I LOVE the no makeup-makeup look…but that’s what I’ve always loved. I’m not a big fan of a painted on face. So, with that being said, I ‘m sure you could guess that I don’t care for the burgandy lipstick. 😉 I DO think it would be gorgeous on certain ladies, but not for me. I’m fair skinned. I couldn’t get the commercial to play, but I’ll keep trying. After reading this, I’d love to try fake eyeslashes, as I have the wimpiest lashes! looking forward to your turorial on that! 😀 I sure hope you have a wonderful weekend as well as a lovely Lord’s Day! Blessing to you & your family!!

  11. Love the commercial!! Haven’t seen it here in NJ. I have never worn false eyelashes. I’ve always thought they look “false”. I’ll be interested to watch your tutorial on that 🙂 thx for all your tips. Blessings,

  12. I’ve never been brave enough to try false eyelashes, but I need to. I’m afraid it would be like a “Lucy and Ethel” adventure…falling down on my nose or something. Can’t wait for your tutorial.

  13. I knew what commercial that was without even watching it! I LOVE that commercial! Quite hilarious!
    Thanks for doing this series!
    Blessings from Indiana!

  14. Ha ha ha ha! I love it Cyndi! I do hope I have gracious enough teens in my home to let me know if I look ridiculous. I can’t wait for your eye-lash tutorial! I have tried them on several occasions. Sometimes I can get them right others… I end up with much time wasted as I’ve created a teary mess of the primer and base that I had put on; had to re-do everything and threw them in the trash! Please teach me!! Thanks so much! Krista

  15. Thanks for the tips. It was this time last year that I found your blog when you were going over the month long beauty tips for women over 40, Wow it does not seem like it has been a year. Thank you for ALL you have done. I very much enjoy your blog and your post.

I am looking forward to your post on false eyeleashes. I have never worn them.
I like a semi-dark lipstick but not the ones in your post. That is just too dark for me. I tried the NEW Mary Kay at Play jelly lip gloss…Crushed plum. It looks VERY dark in the catalog and in the tube by it is not when you put it on. I would NEVER have tried it if I had not been at a Mary Kay party. LOVED it and bought it that night. It is PERFECT for Fall.

I am loving your tips this month. Thank you for sharing with all of us.
God Bless you and your family.

  16. Ha Ha love the smokey eye commercial!! I just bought some false eyelashes a few weeks ago but haven’t been brave enough to put them on yet…but I am definitely going to soon!!!!
