31 Days of Fall Fashion & Beauty Tips

Here we are Day 16 of 31 Days of Fall Fashion & Beauty Tips. We’re Building Your Fall Wardrobe and no wardrobe would be complete without the pencil skirt.

Pencil skirts are a classic piece but they also happen to be on trend right now. Usually the most flattering length will be somewhere around the knee—a bit above, at the knee, or a bit below the knee.

Pencil skirts can be worn by women of all shapes and sizes. The key is finding the right fit for you. You can also add black tights to your outfit as the weather turns colder.

I love a pop of color like these red shoes with a pencil skirt.

This is a more conservative look but I love the shoes.

It’s fun to add stripes and a pop of color with a scarf.

I wore this to church on Sunday. I added my pop of color with a cardigan.

I didn’t post a picture of a basic cardigan yesterday so I’m adding this picture today. I love mixing navy and green!

Beauty For the Heart~~Are you ever fearful? I have to admit I am, but scripture is such a comfort. Psalm 34:4 says, “I sought the Lord, and He answered me and delivered me from all my fears.”

Have a blessed day!

  1. I have a yellow and a black pencil skirt. They are exactly the same skirt and I love them. One of my biggest shopping regrets is that I didn’t buy it in at least some of the colors- especially when it went on clearance!

  2. Can I just say how adorable you look in those outfits!?
While i love the style of the first pic, I always feel I’ll look too messy. The second one is more my way of dressing and I think I HAVE to have those shoes. black, tan and red is so stunning together.

  3. Yes Keenna, I bought my dark denim skirt at JC Penney’s a few years back.It is a soft denim with a matching belt, not like the thick jean denim.

  4. You look great as always, Cyndi. Pencil skirts are not particularly flattering for me; I’m not sure why. Maybe because I’m long-waisted but short-legged?

This year, is it better to have natural leg color showing above boots rather than wearing opaque tights?

  5. Susan, I have been looking for a dark denim pencil skirt (something I can wear to work). So far, I’ve been unsuccessful. Do you mind my asking where you bought yours? Thanks so much! 🙂

  6. Hi Cyndi –
Love the first pic with the red shoes and your blue and green mix… Looks great!! Your hair does look long, are you letting it grow? I love your series for this month. It’s great to be reminded of the basics we should have in our wardrobe

  7. I too Love the pencil skirt. I have a dark denim one that is more on the dressy side.It is a little below the knee. I am short so I bought one in regular size because I felt that the petite would be too short. I love wearing it with many different tops. I may try wearing it with boots this Fall. Have a Blessed Day!

  8. Hi Cyndi.

    You look fab, as always!

I don’t do very many skirts, but may give it a try with boots and/or tights. I absolutely love the look in that first photo! 🙂 Those red shoes are awesome.

Thanks for sharing. Hope your evening is wonderful.

  9. I was just in a convo trying to convince a friend that pencil skirts are universally flattering. I’m super curvy and somehow they make me look thinner. I love the ones at Target and have them in a few colors. Classic cut.

  10. I agree with pencil skirt not working on pear shaped bodies…..While I am loving your fashion stuff this month…..I Missed your what I wore wednesdays:)

  11. I love your cardigan outfit – you definitely need to wear them more often! With my shape, I can’t pull them off very well because I feel my lower half is too big.

  12. I love love love your personal outfits! Are you growing out your hair ? You inspire me to take the time to look nice each day . Thank you!

  13. My pear shape really doesn’t work with pencil skirts and boy I wish it did! The difference between my waist and hips just doesn’t work. They are beautiful and so put together!

  14. Very cute Cyndi, as always. Pencil skirts are difficult for me as I have hips that just don’t stop:) I usually find that I must seriously size up… like two sizes or maybe more… and then get alterations done to fit my waist. I also struggle with what top to put with them as I don’t like to tuck-in. Your belted blouse and cardi are perfect! Thanks for the great idea! Just an FYI… I just discovered that the floral leopard print topper coat from Ann Taylor is marked down to 180 and an extra 50% off. This is what I’ve been waiting for… I know you had your eye on it too. If you haven’t bought it already, it’s a good buy now. I’m going to get it:) Thank so much for you fun and encouraging blog!! Krista

  15. Enjoyed this post. Noticed the Old Navy cardigans. When you mentioned them a few weeks ago I stopped in Old Navy and got 3. I really needed to replace some old ones and had never thought to shop there for me. Loved the price and the sweaters. FYI – love the navy one, I wear it all the time.
