Fashion Over 40-What I Wore

Merry Christmas! I can’t believe next Wednesday is Christmas! I’m not quite ready, but I’m getting close.

Today I’m sharing some fashion over 40. Some I’ve shared before, it’s been pretty busy around here so I haven’t had time to take pictures. 🙂

I’m sharing this picture because I took a picture of my handbag I recently purchased from Kohl’s. You can find it here.

I shared this picture before but I love this burgundy dress I purchased from Marshall’s.

Fashion Over 40-What I Wore

I wore this outfit this week to run errands. I rarely go a week without wearing my chambray shirt.

Fashion Over 40-What I Wore

Okay, I haven’t worn this red dress from Stitch Fix yet. I took a picture of how I might wear it but I’m not sure if I like it. So I need your help!

How would you style this dress? I think I might get a different necklace? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Thank so much for stopping by!

Beauty For the Heart~~My devotion started out this morning with this, ” When you are plagued by a persistent problem-one that goes on and on-view it as a rich opportunity.”

We all have problems! But today look at your problem as a rich opportunity. God is wanting to teach us something and I want to be attentive and learn! Listen to His voice today.

For our light, momentary affliction (this slight distress of the passing hour) is ever more and more abundantly preparing and producing and achieving for us an everlasting weight of glory [beyond all measure, excessively surpassing all comparisons and all calculations, a vast and transcendent glory and blessedness never to cease!]. 2 Corinthinas 4:17 (AMP)

Have a blessed day!

  1. I know this doesn’t apply to fashion, but I love the sign behind you in your photos. Where did you get that? I would love one for my home.

    Thanks,
    Carolyn

  2. Hey Kim,
I know I’m late in getting back with you but I ordered that scarf online last year. I think it was $2.99. 🙂 I don’t think it can be purchased now. Sorry!!
    Blessings,
    Cyndi

  3. Nude hose, taupe shoes or boots (or maybe animal print shoes). If you must do black, go with sheer black hosiery paired with a textured (suede, wool, velvet) black shoe. Not plain leather or patent leather…it just looks too harsh when worn with red.

What fabric is the red dress? It looks like it might be a woven fabric?

With your dark hair/eyes, I would pair the red dress with silver jewelry. Move the tied belt very far to the side, or remove it completely. Eliminate the tank (if needed for modesty, wear a leopard print scarf instead) and the button tabs on the sleeves.

Or, save yourself all that headache and send the dress back. It’s just not your usual home run. I think that no matter how you change it up, you will always have that nagging feeling that it’s just not a 10.

Love to see your outfits each week, and I especially look forward to the devotionals. They feed my soul. Many blessings to you and your family, and Merry Christmas.

  4. Hi Cyndi,
I love all your tips and style hints. It has really helped me to open up about my clothing choices and be braver about what I put together.
The red dress is great, I just love red. I would pair it with a black turtleneck, pearls, and black boots for the winter. Then maybe a chunky silver necklace and cute sandals in the spring and summer.
    Merry Christmas,
    Kathy

  5. I’m a “Jesus Calling” fan, too! That was a great devotional the other day about problems! Really got me thinking!

  6. Great outfits. I think maybe a black and silver chunky necklace with the red dress. Everything else about that outfit is great.

  7. I love all these great suggestions. So many good ideas. You may need to model some of your favorites to let us see how they look.

  8. Love the first outfit and love the red dress!! Looks great on you! I agree with some of the others…. Lighter hose, even nude with animal print shoes is great . Or sheer black hose with black shoes. Also I think jewelry needs to be simple and not compete with dress. Silver would be great!! Thx for sharing 🙂

  9. The dress is pretty. I agree, however, with a few of the other respondents. Go with a lighter shade of tights. Add a print shoe or bag and a different necklace. The necklace looks too harsh with the shade of the dress. You”ll fall in love with the dress once you pair it with other pieces more complimentary to the color.

  10. Red dress… The black tights seem too heavy for the dress. I believe I would go with nude or sheer black hose. Always look forward to your fashion pics!

  11. Super cute outfits this week. Love the grey sweater you’re wearing over the chambray shirt – do you remember where you got it? Also, the red dress, looks GREAT on you! I think the black tights and black shoes are a little to drastic. They stand out more than the dress. I would simplify the jewelry and maybe wear a pair of black patent leather heels with a shear black hose. Although, I do like the sound of animal print pumps! 🙂

  12. You look great in that red dress! I agree I would wear a different necklace something not so big and maybe gold. I think that dress would look good with your black tall boots too.

  13. I love the red dress on you, just as you have styled it. I have seen that look a lot lately on Pinterest. The look of a all black accessories and a dress of a different color, such as red, cream, etc. You could wear an ankle boot with the dress to change the look. Some patterned tights?

I’m not done with my shopping quite yet. My 4 year old has been sick this week, so she’s been out of school, and we’ve gotten a tad further behind. LOL It will all work out.

    Thanks for sharing! 🙂

  14. Hi Cyndi,
I love the red dress on you. Perhaps some Cyndi leopard? Definitely a gold choker instead. It’s a classic style and needs a more classic necklace. Maybe some herringbone tights in black to add texture?

  15. Very encouraging ‘Beauty for the Heart’ today! Thanks so much for that!! I love your red dress, but for some reason, the bottom black tights & shoes seem to not be right…not sure why. But it’s gorgeous otherwise! Merry Christmas!

  16. AHHH…. where did you get those beautiful black boots you are wearing with the burgundy dress? I’ve been searching for dress boots with a lower heel like that. Beautiful.

The red dress is pretty for Christmas. Your tiny waist was just made for a wrap dress. I think I might like a softer color shoe and tights with the dress. And maybe a more delicate gold necklace. As always though, you look just gorgeous. I signed up for stitchfix, I hope you got a credit because I did. So fun.

Hope you have a very Merry Christmas!

    Trish

  17. I think the red dress looks beautiful on you and I love the way you’ve styled it. It’s perfect. You should definitely find a reason/event to wear it!

  18. I’d go a little “wild” with the red dress and wear that leopard print scarf with it. Keep the black hose and maybe try black boots, too. (I saw a woman wearing a red sweater with a leopard print scarf the other day and loved the look–I think it would work great with your red dress!)

  19. It looks fabulous on you, as does everything. I agree with the suggestion to switch out pearls (even chunky pearls) for the statement necklace and go with a zebra animal print tank rather than solid black? Maybe less of an opaque hose, too, but not nylons. Would love to hear what suggestions you like best. Merry Christmas!!!

  20. Love the red dress on you! For the holidays, I would probably wear silver jewelry and sheer black or nude hose. Even though the tights may be warmer, I think they are little too heavy looking for this dress. 🙂 I know you’re looking for modestly with the black tank, but if you can pull the neckline together and pin it from the inside, I would probably forego the tank.

  21. I love the outfit with the leopard scarf, the boots and purse colors perfectly go with the print. As for the red dress, I think a simpler, less chunky necklace might do the trick. I think the dress itself has a lot going on with the color , pockets, waist bow, buttons and collar and doesn’t need much in the way of accessories. This coming from an accessory lover… I just think any type of statement necklace would be fighting to compete with the dress which is beautiful and looks Fabulous on you!

  22. Cindi, thanks for sharing. you’re beauty from the inside shines through. I like the red dress but would lighten it up with a non solid hose and change out the black jewelry for more sparkle. Please share what you end up doing. Blessings. Merry Christmas,

  23. The dress looks beautiful on you! I think since the dress is the statement piece, I’d take away a statement necklace and either do nothing or a very delicate necklace. I would possibly go with a slightly lighter black hose also, still opaque but less tight-like and more hose-like. 🙂
    Blessings!

  24. I think the red dress is great, but for a little kick, how about nude hose with leopard heels? For jewelry, I would then go with gold.

  25. I love the red dress and think it looks lovely the way you have it styled. I also think textured or patterned stockings (tights) with black dressy boots or booties (heels) would look great. I have some lacey black tights that add some interest when wearing solid colors…love them! You look beautiful, as always!

  26. I love that red dress on you as it is. But,to change it up I might try nude hose w/black pumps and a long layered necklace or pretty printed silk scarf on the outside of the collar, under the lapel.

  27. Cyndi, I like all your outfits! Cute! About your new red dress–So what about a short silver necklace or a cream/white statement necklace? You do such a good job with your choices I’m sure you will figure it out

  28. I think the red dress looks great on you. I like the chunky necklace–perhaps you’d like to try a metallic gold or silver with it?

  29. Love the outfits. I’d personally wear a chunky, sparkly necklace, go with softer black hose (maybe even with just a very tiny hint of shimmer) and carry a sparkly, black clutch .
