With Easter being two weeks away, I thought I’d share some Easter dresses for women over 40. These would also be great for graduations and weddings.
A couple of reminders for women over 40~~don’t wear matchy, matchy, such as a matching skirt and jacket. Also, don’t try to match your shoes and your handbag.
To make you look more young and hip, add trendy jewelry. For instance with dress #4, I would add a coral bracelet or chandelier earrings with coral in them. Wear wedge heels or an open toe platform shoe (see picture 2). Small things can make a huge difference.
If you’re concerned about the length of your dress, you can buy slip extenders to add length. This is a DIY slip extender and you can find it here. I also found some on Etsy that are already made.

A good rule of thumb for dress or skirt length that’s always in style is letting the dress or skirt hit the spot on the back of your knee that curves in slightly. From the front it’s just above the knee. If you like a bit more length, have your skirts hit the middle of the knee.

Beauty For the Heart~~One of the things my family would tell you about me, is I have a tendency to be a control freak. Okay, they would say I AM a control freak. I’m the oldest sibling. I’m the planner in the family, if we’re doing something as a family, they call me to find out when, where, etc.
My sister has even said when she plans her kid’s birthdays, she calls me first to find out the plan (okay she’s going overboard with that comment, but you get the point).
Over the last several years, God has been teaching me (and they’ve been hard lessons to learn) that I’m not in control. I had no control over losing my Mom to cancer. I had no control when it came to my daughter’s marriage ending in divorce.
I’m not in control but I’m so thankful I know the one that is in control. I’m learning that I have to trust God with my family. I would rather entrust my family to God than anyone else in the world.

Ladies, if you go back on Cyndi’s blog (maybe a year or even more) you will find this subject discussed–I think more than once. It’s a tough one, especially as we get older and our bare legs aren’t that attractive anymore (if they ever were; mine really weren’t). In the end I think you have to be comfortable/confident in what you’re wearing or it isn’t really fashion at all.

Hi Cyndi girl! Hope this finds you wonderful!!! I love all the dress selections you posted, all of them had great styling. You know how something jumps out at you and you immediately think “Oh, I would never wear that!”, but yet you’re still compelled by it? That is me and dress 4! I looked at it a second time and a third and went to the JCP site to order it! It was also crazy on sale. The proof will be in the trying it on, hope I like it as much as I think I will!! I’ve wondered about the same thing. I don’t feel fully dressed when I put on a nice dress and shoes without panty hose. My daughter is 33 yrs. old and always dresses very trendy and fashion forward. She has beautiful clothes and I don’t think she OWNS a pair of hose. My legs are not great to look at, especially with a dress and shoes. I would welcome suggestions as well.
I’m one of those that is still having a hard time with not matching. Going to try it though…..wish me luck. lol

am I old fashion or what…. but does anyone wear hose anymore? what does a person do when they have white, bumpy, legs and have allergic to self tanners!!! help
I love the dresses! I’m petite and it’s hard for me to find dresses long enough that aren’t too long. I’ll have to look into the extender, but I think it looks like the slip is hanging out. And, I’m pear-shaped, and most dresses are too big on top and then make my hips look huge.
Very timely post – thanks for the ideas. I struggled at first with the not matching issue but I’ve gotten used to it and love it now. Yes, to dressing up for Easter. Who doesn’t love an excuse for a new dress or an excuse to buy your granddaughter a new dress! LOL!
Slip extenders are such a lifesaver for tall girls! Luckily, I’ve already found my Easter dress & my daughter’s. And it’s one that’s the perfect length on its own…a rarity for me! Why don’t dresses come in tall?! Thanks for the post today…great as always!

Jesus Calling is amazing. I started a devotional group for a friend who was in hospice. We all read Jesus Calling each day including my friend. The timing of the passages was a God thing each day.

Cyndi the not matching shoes and purses is definitely a learned change for our age group. Succeeding in letting go of that and even not matching jewelry to hardware colors of purses and jackets is very freeing! Hope those struggling give it a try and recognize it as antiquated rules from our mothers and grandmother.
Those are the tackiest things I’ve ever seen.

At your recommendation I have been reading Jesus Calling daily. It has really helped me to better realize that God is in control and that I have to turn that over to Him. I haven’t completely mastered it, but I think I’m doing better and certainly am more aware! Thank you for recommending that little book! 🙂 I love all the dresses you have shown today…but can’t say I’d wear that slip extender.

I feel sure that if I wore that slip extender, everyone would whisper in my ear, “your slip is showing.” Am I the only one?
oh my gosh, cyndi – i used to be a control freak too. then God gave me a daughter with ADD, a learning disability and some emotionall issues. and God allowed me to go thru an emotionally shattering divorce. talk about a some hard ways to learn i couldn’t control anything. i couldn’t have gotten thru it if it weren’t for His grace. why do i have to be such a jinglehead when it comes to the Lord teaching me to lean on Him. blessings.
