Summer Fashion Trend 2014-Neutral

One of the summer fashion trends I’m seeing a lot is neutral colors. I love the look and recently wore this neutral outfit.

We haven’t talked about shorts this year but I do wear them. I don’t wear long shorts because they look horrible on my pear shaped body.

This is the length I like and when I feel I’m too old for it, I’ll stop wearing shorts. 🙂

These shorts are from New York & Company. The blouse is too but I couldn’t find the exact one online, but there’s a similar one here.

Everything at New York & Company is 5o% right now. It’s a good time to do some summer shopping.

My sandals I wear all the time and are from JCPenney’s. You can find them here.

Have you worn the neutral fashion trend?

Beauty For the Heart~~Lately, I’ve had some things going on that frustrate me, things I don’t understand. I’m realizing more and more I have to make them a matter of prayer. Worrying about the situation will get me no where. I have to give it to the Lord.

Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. Psalm 55:22

Is there something in your life that you need to give to the Lord?

Have a blessed day!

  1. You look great! 🙂 I’m always drawn to neutral colors, so I’m glad they’re the “in” thing now. I’m also pear-shaped and short, so shorts and capris are a real challenge. I’ve found a few that work.

  2. I’m always drawn to more neutral looks, and this one is adorable. That top is so perfect – I have one just like it, and it is so versatile. Cute sandals, too!

  3. Hi Cyndi! I just recently found your blog via Pintrest. Your outfit looks great! I can’t say that I wear a lot of neutrals together but you have made it look easy. I love your style and all the helpful information you provide. You are always encouraging and positive. I saw your post about building your fall wardrobe and wondered if you have done one for spring/summer or if there is any difference. Any helpful suggestions would be great.

  4. Thank you Kim!! I’m glad you commented! I want to be encouraging and positive. I think we all need it these days.
    Blessings,
    Cyndi

  5. Jonella,
That was certainly not my intention. If you read my blog at all, you know that I don’t think size is what makes us beautiful.
I am a pear shape. You can be a pear shape and be a size 2 or a size 22.
I’m very sorry if I offended you.
    Blessings,
    Cyndi

  6. I think you look great in those shorts! I am pear shaped and also have shorter legs with a long torso. I definitely find that the shorter shorts look much better on me than the long ones. I don’t think I’ve ever commented but I really appreciate the whole “tone” of your blog. It’s always very encouraging and uplifting, which can be hard to find these days!

  7. I just wanted to say, Love the look……but I also wanted to tell you thank you for sharing that you are struggling right now and the only answer is prayer……..I needed that! I am in the same boat so thank you! And your on my prayer list now too…….

  8. I wore this look last week on vacation. I wore a white top and khaki shorts but didn’t go completely neutral like you because I added a corally pink necklace and bracelet. I think it was my favorite outfit I wore the whole week! I am also a pear, which just means my chest is smaller than my hips. Love the blog, everything you wear is adorable! And the verses are appreciated too!

  9. Love the short length. I am a 5-2 apple, I really like a 4-5 inch inseam. Like J-Crew shorts, Banana Republic shorts as well. I have gone ga-ga for navy as a neutral paired with white this summer. Thanks for all the ideas!

  10. As a “pear” who has been every size from a 4 top/6 bottom to 10 top/12 bottom, I can attest that pears come in all sizes! I have finally made peace with the fact that my bottom will always be a size bigger than my top because that’s how God made me. I try to stay as fit as possible, but even when I ran a half marathon at the age of 50, my basic shape never really changed. I love the positive messages I find in Cyndi’s posts, and hope that other readers find the same encouragement. Regarding the neutral shorts outfit, i love it and wish I could still get away with that length. Such a cute summer look, and perfect on you, Cyndi!

  11. Hi Cyndi.

I’m with you on the shorts length. I wear the 3-5″ inch shorts too. I tried the “Bermuda” shorts, but they only made my thighs look stockier and my calves straighter. Plus they made me feel about 20 years older! I do think that they look great on some women, both young and older. Keep on wearing your shorts! They look great. 🙂

  12. I agree with the others. I, too, am a pear shape and weigh about 125 lbs. Even when I was 113 lbs., my shape was still more of a pear. It really doesn’t matter how small or big we are, I think we all have a certain body shape. Just my thoughts anyway. I know Cyndi is always very positive in her blog postings and would never say or do anything vicious.

  13. I am struggling right now with shorts also. I am in no way ready to stop wearing them but…the ones I am finding are either too short or too long. I’m only 5’4″ so walking shorts are always reeeally long on me. Thanks for the tip on New York and Co. I haven’t been in there this season. I’m going to check them out. By the way, I love the neutral look. You can’t ever go wrong with kahki shorts and a crisp white top.

  14. Thanks so much for sharing the verse …. I have to remind myself that sometimes things happen that just don’t make sense. And that verse is a great comfort!

  15. Love the outfit. You look great. I agree, we can all be a ” shape” regardless of our size. Thx for sharing …… And P.S. Worrying doesn’t change the situation. It’s a time waster. Trust in His timing and strength. God never makes mistakes 😉

  16. I agree, Lyndy. I have never read anything negative or demeaning on this blog, quite the opposite. Whatever size you are, you still have a shape to go with it.

  17. Pear shape is just that, a body shape. It has nothing to do with a person’s dress size or weight. We’re all one-of-a-kind by God’s design and the best way we thank Him is to take care of our temple the best we can. 🙂 I used to believe that neutrals were a no-no for fair-skinned blondes but there are so many shades of neutrals anyone can look fabulous in them! Adorable outfit Cindi!

  18. I agree that a person can be pear shaped and still be small. I love the way you look in that length of shorts. I think it will be MANY years before you won’t be able to wear shorts!! How tall are you?

  19. I don’t think Cyndi is meaning that in a negative way. You can have a “pear shapped” body in any size.

  20. Love the look on you! I too love the neutral look. I love pairing my white skinny jeans and cream colored graphic linen tee that I got at JCrew. I wouldn’t have paired them together a year ago, but this year; yes! I love wearing it with gold metallic sandals and statement earrings!

  21. Pear shaped? You? You are like a size 6. Pear shaped is when you can’t wear skirts without Spanx because the hips stick out so far. I’m really disappointed in your comment about being pear shaped. It makes those of us that larger than your size 6, feel even worse!

  22. I love that look. I am a pear shape as well but feel like my legs and rear are too big for shorter shorts so I often wear the longer ones. Maybe I need to rethink that now??

  23. That length of shorts is perfect on you! I agree that really long would not be as flattering. I have long legs and I really struggle to find shorts that I’m comfortable wearing.

  24. Hi Cyndi,

I’m new to your site. Got here via Pinterest. Love seeing your outfits. I’m curious, how tall are you? And I just read the comment from Liz. I also have a son’s wedding coming up and am doing what I can to loose wait and firm up. Could you post the arm circuit video again please.

  25. Hey Cyndi,
Just wanted to tell you I’ve been doing the arm circuit video you posted a couple of weeks ago or so. It is amazing! It’s short enough that I don’t mind doing it and is so effective! My son is getting married later in the summer. My dress is sleeveless so I’m working on getting my arms in tip top shape! 🙂 Thanks for sharing this little video!
