Welcome to 31 Days of Fall Fashion!

It’s October 1st and that means it’s 31 Days of Fall Fashion!! Some of you might be new around here, so let me be the first to say, Welcome!

Welcome to 31 Days of Fall Fashion!
I was recently asked about the handbags I carry and I said I usually stick to one or two handbags a season. Well, I found this handbag at Marshall’s and let me just say it was love at first sight! (Similar one here.)

Welcome to 31 Days of Fall Fashion!

This handbag has three things going for it.

  • Royal Blue is a popular color this fall.
  • It’s a satchel, which is a popular style for fall.
  • Gold chains on handbags are also popular.

As you can see, I couldn’t pass it up!

I learned something new today, don’t wear black suede boots in gravel, the dust gets all over them. Who knew?

Welcome to 31 Days of Fall Fashion!

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know I love mixing patterns. When I saw this black plaid shirt at Old Navy, I knew I could wear it with this polka dot sweater.

Of course, polka dots and plaid call for pearls. So I popped a pearl bracelet on. (Is that just a southern thing?)

Have you been mixing any patterns lately?

Beauty for the Heart~~I’m learning more and more that storms in this life can come quickly. Scripture says, “When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:17-18

Remember, when things are out of our control, they are never out of God’s control, no matter how impossible the situation.

Have a blessed day!

  1. So I have a question…
How in the world do you hide the pockets on your button up shirt when layered under the sweater?
I have tried everything! Layered a tank top between the shirt & sweater to try smoothing it out like what was suggested on Pinterest but I still look lumpy in the chest area. Ugh! I really adore this look but it just isn’t going together for me very well. Any thoughts?

    1. Hmmm. It may have been this shirt because it didn’t show through. The pockets have buttons and them so they lay down flat.
      Does that help??

      1. Depending on the fabric pockets are relatively easy to remove. A seam ripper (available in the notions section of most stores for $1-$5) will open up the stitches neatly. Washing polyester fabric right after will close the stitch marks. Most cottons fabrics work similarly. If you have a larger chest those little pockets are best off the garment.

  2. Please tell us the maker of that beautiful cobalt blue handbag. The one from Macys is ok…..but yours is BEAUTIFUL!!!

  3. Inspired by this post, I brought out my ankle boots today. May I ask what you wear as hosiery with these? I wore tan ankle boots with white footie socks, but you could still see the white down the inside of the boot when I sat and crossed my legs. So I need a better option and was wondering what you wear under your booties. Thanks for sharing!

      1. Hi Cyndi,
Came across your website through Pinterest.
I love your outfits, very pretty!
I have to ask, are you a teacher? You and your awesome style suggest it 🙂
Look forward to more of your fashions.

  4. Even at 93 degrees in Central California, I want this outfit. You are fall fabulous! So so cute! Everything about this combination is so comfortably classy! You have the eye, Missy! This will be great for my work, October fairs and fiestas, coastal visits, San Francisco shopping, football games. But the number #1 thing I’ll take away from this picture is the pearl bracelet. My daughter informed me that pearls are the traditional gift at 30 years of marriage which my husband and I just celebrated on Sept 29th. I think I’ve finally decided what I want for an anniversary gift…2 days later! Thank you for all your wonderful “Beauty from the Heart” messages. I have several favorites that I plan to use at dinner place settings for family members to read at holiday time.

  5. This outfit looks great on you! Those jeans and booties are so flattering and I adore pattern mixing so those polka dots and plaid are just divine!!

  6. I’ve never found any patterns in my closet that I thought I could mix. I LOVE this combination! But I don’t have polka dots, and I don’t have plaid. Yet. Plaid is on my list for this fall!

  7. I would wear this look anytime. I love the dots and plaid together and you look so cute in it. It is also very figure flattering. Thanks for making such a warm day in Oklahoma feel like fall.

  8. PERFECT! It’s also one of my faves.
Liz, you don’t have to keep the shoulder strap on all the time. In fact they’re designed to be taken off as it can look a bit cluttered with both. BTW, this isn’t a new thing; I have clutch bags from the 50s with little straps tucked inside that can be snapped on.
The blue bag is a great pop of colour!

  9. The patterned look is fantastic! Your whole outfit is of great style! Pearls look wonderful with the black! I wish I could get into the fall feel today, but our weather here in Houston is going to be around 93 degrees today!!! A cold front is heading here, but only the mornings will be coldish, the afternoons still in the mid 80’s!

  10. I saw that top at Old Navy last week and thought it looked a little thin — but it’s perfect for your look and Texas winters. I guess I’ll be making a trip back to Old Navy!

  11. Perfect example of mixing patterns and looks so very autumny. I feel more comfortable attempting to mix patterns when they are in the same color family and the patterns are similar in scale. I wish I could wear this outfit but, alas, we are in for triple digits through the weekend! Blessings to you.

    1. I agree with you Cindy. I also like the idea that the two patterns are from the same color family and that the patterns are simliar in size. I don’t like the “similar” polka dot sweater at all. The dots are way to big and I don’t think I’d like it matched with another pattern.

  12. Perfect outfit for the 1st day of Fall Fashion! This has to be one of my favorites! I love it when you model an outfit that primarily I already have in my closet! Pearls are a staple and always in style…dress up, dress down, and your ready to go! Beauty for the Heart is most welcomed in my spirit today.

  13. Very cute outfit today! I just can’t get my head around the handbags that have both the shoulder strap and handles. They are so popular and versatile but I just don’t like the look. Is it just me??!

  14. I’m usually not a fan of mixed patterns but this one works well. I love the combination! I have a coupon for Old Navy so will be looking at that top soon. Still not digging the cuffed jeans and showing the top of the bottie look though.

  15. Love the mixed patterns…you do it up right! Thank you for your Beauty from the Heart…it was truly what was needed today.

  16. Love this look! We are still hitting 80 today so not quite read for layered look, but the plaid and polka dot are perfection! I have been looking forward to this 31 days…thanks for putting it together for us!

  17. I love the whole outfit- and the pearls are a bit more international than just a Southern thing. Autumn and Winter call for pearls. I am told that is because when they are warm they are at their most lustrous. I do appreciate your Beauty for the Heart. Thank you

  18. I have been eyeballing this plaid shirt for a few weeks. I have heard that this one runs small, but I dont live near an Old Navy to try it on. Have you found that it runs small? And I love the gold chains on your new bag! Great find! Susan

    1. Hey Susan,
It might run a little small but I wear a small in most tops and that’s what size I purchased. I probably won’t dry it in the dryer. 🙂
