5 Tips To Keep You Healthy During the Holidays

Christmas is a time to celebrate. It’s almost an unspoken rule that when the holidays arrive, you are allowed to eat lots of food including desserts and because we’re so busy, exercise is not even an option.

Not to mention we’re bundled up with sweaters and coats so we don’t notice our sagging arms and that extra weight around the stomach.

However, celebrating doesn’t have to mean over-indulgence. You can enjoy all the festivities while choosing to stay healthy. I promise you won’t regret it!

5 Tips To Keep You Healthy During the Holidays

Here are 5 Tips To Keep You Healthy During the Holidays

1. Get plenty of sleep. I know what you’re thinking who has time for sleep? We’re all busy so we stay up late and get up early. But studies show that sleep is important to our overall health.

The benefits of sleep include better memory, lowers stress, and over all healthier.

One of my favorite things to do to help me sleep is diffuse essential oils. Peace and calming is my very favorite!!!

2. Keep exercising. It’s easy to quit this time of the year. The weather is cold and dreary and who wants to walk outside. I’m a fair weather walker!!

Wayne and I have decided to not be so sedentary this winter so we’ve taken up racquetball. Not only is it great exercise but it’s fun for us as a couple.

I love these 10 minute workouts and I use them all the time. I probably need to do more but I feel some exercise is better than none!

A study conducted by the U.S. government found adults gained, on average, more than a pound of body weight during the winter holidays – and that they were not at all likely to shed that weight the following year.

The good news is that the people who reported the most physical activity through the holiday season showed the least weight gain.

3. Indulge in those special holiday treats. That’s right it’s okay to eat some of your favorite treats but save your sweet tooth for the special ones. Keep your sugar intake low. I try to limit my sugar but there are some holiday treats I know I’m going to eat. The key is moderation.

4. Hydrate your body! Typically we eat a lot of foods during the holidays that are high in sodium. Plus all the sweets and that can leave our body dehydrated. It’s important to drink plenty of water.

Stay away from soft drinks because they are high in sodium. I personally stay away from diet drinks too because of the artificial sweeteners.

5. Snack healthy (and often). Typically we think if we don’t eat, we can save our calories for that one big meal. But that’s not a good idea. Eat healthy snacks during the day and then when you have that big dinner, you will eat less.

Keep fruit and veggies in the refrigerator so you can grab them quickly.

My Extra Tip!

One of the best things I did for my health a few years ago was to start using essential oils. They have been life changing for me. I feel better and I love the fact that I’m putting good things in and on my body.

I have used them for menopause and sleep issues.

Young Living has just released their new and improved skin care line!! I absolutely love the Art Skin Care System and it would make a great Christmas gift! (Email me at cyndispive(at)gmail(dot)com with any questions.)

5 Tips To Keep You Healthy During The Holidays

What do you do to keep yourself healthy during the holidays?

I do not have all this healthy stuff down!! I struggle at times with exercising and I sometimes eat unhealthy but I’m trying and I hope we can encourage each other!

I’d love for you to connect with me on your favorite social media platform. I’m on FacebookInstagram and Pinterest!

Beauty For the Heart~~1 Corinthians 6:19-20 came to my mind as I was thinking about my body. I want to honor God by taking care of what he has given me.

Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself,  for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.

Have a blessed and healthy day!

  1. I love to run in the cooler weather and always make time for a Xmas day run. I just feel better. Very nice post today.

  2. Cyndi,
Love the vest and mascara! I have a similar vest in navy that I got at Jcrew a few years ago and I still wear it all the time. I would love to add another to my closet. Can’t wait to see your next post!
    Thanks
    Steph

  3. 1. Yes, I get plenty of sleep, never wake up with an alarm, usually getting between 7-8 hours sleep.
    2. Exercise is an everyday habit that I love. Pilates, walking, little jogging.
    3. Oh, You bet I will eat some of the tasty delicacies that my daughters will be baking and chocolate covering this holiday, no fear on this one! 🙂
    4. I used to drink the Smart Water, but my favorite for the last year has been FIJI Water, Natural Artesian Water! 1 lit. per day ! Off soda pop !
    5. You bet my snacking will be more healthy after my water only fast. I love to set out carrots, celery, brocc or cauliflower, with dip for the family to snack on or fresh cut apples, pears, banana’s grapes, blueberries or kiwi, or fresh popped pop-corn in the evening after dinner.
But I might one day try some skin oils and lotions..but for now, I have been without any of them(water keeps my skin silky and hydrated without the dry look). As Cindy Crawford stated years ago, she uses nothing on her face but water. I do the same. She is now 48 and looking gorgeous ! I am 47!

  4. Love the tips for the Holidays… I usually do eat or at least “taste” every holiday cooky, every candy, every truffle, and every chocolate coated desert my daughters and I make for friends and family… so I normally gain a few pounds. Maybe not this time though. My daughters are doing the baking, and I am on day 4 of a fast(water only-no food) I plan on going 7-10 days then starting a partial raw food healthy eating after the fast.

  5. Would you recommend investing in a blazer? I found an adorable one at Target this Fall but have yet worn it and was wondering if I should keep it or return it?

    1. Yes!! A blazer is a great staple piece for your wardrobe. Search pinterest for blazers and look at all the cute ways you can wear it.
      Blessings,
      cyndi

  6. Thanks for your great reminders, Cyndi! Zumba has been my answer to exercise. I love it! I would love your feed back on Progessence. I believe that is a newer item that you started to use recently?
I am using the Ylang Ylang and the Clavy Sage and have noticed a decrease some menopause symptoms. Healthy Holidays!

  7. I’ve been using YL essential oils since June, can’t say I can really tell a difference although my moods may be a little more consistent with Progessence. I diffuse a variety of oils at my desk daily and use N. Red daily. Care to share your regimen?
