Welcome back to our 12 Days of Holiday Outfits series! Today it’s What To Wear On Christmas Eve!
I’m having so much fun partnering with Kristin from BonBon Rose Girls and Jo-Lynne from Jo-Lynne Shane. We’re sharing 12 days of posts about what to wear for EVERY event this holiday season.
We always spent all day Christmas Eve with my husband’s family and then we would head to my parents and spend the night and spend Christmas day with them. It was how we spent Christmas and we loved it.
In 1994, my husband was called to a church that had a Christmas Eve service. What?? It was a tradition for that church and they went on and on how beautiful the service was and it was the highlight of everyone’s Christmas.
I’m going to be honest and say we were devastated. We already had our traditions. It was going to change everything!
That first year we went kicking and screaming (not literally).
I know what you’re thinking, “Cyndi, it is Jesus’ birth we’re celebrating!” I know it is, I’m just being honest and saying it was change and at first I didn’t welcome the change.
Needless to say, we did love the Christmas Eve service and it was such a blessing to celebrate Jesus’ birth. We left our first Christmas Eve service knowing we had a new tradition!
Our kids have grown up loving the Christmas Eve service. Each year our family lights the Christ candle and now we’re making memories with Colt, our grandson, as he joins us on stage.
Our families adjusted their celebrations around our service and our traditions have been special but the Christmas Eve service is what makes Christmas for our family.
Well I’m not sure there’s a good way to transition from Jesus to fashion but here is an outfit you could wear Christmas Eve.
I do like to be comfortable because after the service we still head to my families to eat and open gifts. There’s food and presents and lots of laughter!
One of the trends I’ve been seeing a lot of in 2014 is fringe. It’s on sweaters, handbags and even boots. From what I can tell it’s still going to be “on trend” in 2015.
I recently found this Michael Kors fringed sweater at Macy’s with some fringe and thought it would be fun to wear for Christmas Eve.
I’m wearing black pants with these knee high boots. I know some of you were not fans of the knee high boots. Next, I’ll style them with a skirt!
This is a perfect outfit for our Christmas Eve festivities!

I think it would be hard to be a pastor’s family during the holidays. Even though it’s a calling, there’s so much action at church during December. I’m glad y’all were able to incorporate that into your traditions. 🙂
it is difficult to be a pastor any day and the holidays are all the more difficult. Wise pastors celebrate, like the priests in the Temple of Solomon, celebrate at New Years or Epiphany or at the main celebration of another culture or faith, such as Lunar New Year or Sukkot.
We always went to Church Xmas eve, (unless I had to babysit 🙂 ) It still make Xmas for me as I especially love choral music. We would go and have a special meal when we came back.
Btw, you are rockin’ those boots. They’re very slenderizing as well.

I love the boots and the sweater. As a FUL Figure Woman I probably would not wear the slim fit pants. But I’m going to recreate this outfit to fit me!!! Keep the suggestions coming!!
I love going to church on Christmas Eve and I have black wedge boots very similar to yours! Christmas is the one time of the year that I can get my DH along to church!
Church on christmas eve has been a tradition in my family for many years and we love it!

I like the sweater especially the fringe which seems to dress it up. Christmas Eve service is a tradition and I always feel better after the service because it’s what christmas is really about not all the buying

Oh my goodness. That is our story almost exactly, except that my husband “had” to run the Christmas Eve service one year at the only church he’s ever worked for. I seriously thought his family (we are at his grandmother’s home on Christmas Eve) going to STROKE OUT. His grandmother (a serious churchgoer) still mumbles about it, but we ignore it. Some of his family offer to “keep our kids” while we “go work,” but our children LOVE the Christmas Eve service and let them know they aren’t missing out. Ha! We still get the question, “Do you have to go to church on Christmas Eve?” but Shane tells them, no we don’t HAVE to do anything. We WANT to. And we will be gone for a whole 30 minutes! We’ve even started something. His sister and her family now come with us!

Cyndi, I can’t understand why anyone would not like those knee high boots on you– they look so stylish!
One thing I love about Chritmas is traditions– both old and new! Things change, and change is always uncomfortable, but I have found that it can be exciting as well!

LOL I can so relate to that…. I used to get annoyed that we had to go to the Christmas Eve service… how awful is that!?? Then I started to really enjoy it and look forward to it. Like you, we had family traditions, but now the church service is our tradition. LOVE the fringe and those boots!
