What I Wore-Fashion Over 40

Happy Wednesday friends! Well if you’re counting, it’s 8 days until Christmas. Yikes! I still have quite a bit to do. But I’m one of those people who work better under pressure.

This past week, I wore several outfits that I have shared before. I wore my vest and scarf again!

I wore this poncho with my tall black boots pictured below.

I did some Christmas shopping and I don’t like to drag around a coat so I wore this checkered open cardigan with my fringe scarf from Target. Perfect for a cold day! (The wind is blowing and my hair is a little wild in these pictures.)

Do you still have some Christmas shopping left to do or are you all done?

Beauty For the Heart~~I had to share this video with you all today. Natalie Hodson is a Healthy Living blogger. She shares recipes and workouts (you do have to pay a monthly fee to get her best recipes and workouts.)

I’ve been thinking lately about the New Year and what I’ll be doing on this blog. I’m so thankful to have my blog and even more thankful that I can now work full time as a blogger. But I’ll be honest, I sometimes wonder how long I can do this?

I’m not getting any younger and does anyone want to look at pictures of an old woman?? I have lots of imperfections and the wrinkles are coming faster and faster. I’m not complaining, I’m just being honest.

This video reminds me that none of us have perfect skin, bodies, hair etc.

We’re not trying to look like we’re teenagers around here. We’re trying to grow old gracefully and more importantly we’re trying to grow in love and self-control, in kindness and gentleness, in goodness and patience, in joy and peace.

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:16

Thank you so much for joining me here at Walking in Grace & Beauty. I hope you leave here knowing you are ENOUGH and you are loved by God and he made you uniquely YOU!

Have a blessed day!

  1. Cyndi-I am a teacher. I just found you over Christmas break. I look forward to seeing your outfits each day. At 40’ish’ it’s hard to dress everyday in something stylish but also my age. I hope you stick with your passion! I can see from the comments that you are touching many lives besides my own!! I also love Jesus and love reading your scriptures and inspirations! I am enjoying the focus15 study with everyone too. Thanks Cyndi!

  2. Cindy, please don’t stop blogging!?!? I just found you on Pinterest and you have been my blessing in disguise! I have neglected myself for a loooong time. I am in my 40’s and discovered that my wardrobe was pitiful. I desperately wanted to dress age appropriate but had no idea where to even begin. I have spent most of my life devoted to being a “soccer mom” so my wardrobe consisted of t-shirts,hoodies and sweatshirts. I had actually become depressed and felt completely lost in what to wear to look decent (I HATED trying to shop for clothes). Then I found your blog and you helped me with getting myself “together”. By reading your blog and looking at your pictures, I was able to actually enjoy shopping again and am on my way to having a fun, stylish and age appropriate wardrobe – AND I FEEL GREAT ABOUT WHAT IS NOW IN MY CLOSET!!!! I prayed for direction and help and stumbled on your blog. You have made a huge difference in my life and I have to say I rely on your advice and the inspiration I get from your blog. From a total stranger whose life you have helped to transform- THANK YOU FROM EVERY FIBER OF MY BEING! God bless you and what you do!

    1. Thank you Renee – I’m so glad you were able to find me on Pinterest and re-kindle that inspiration for taking care of yourself!
      Blessings,
      Cyndi

      1. Don’t stop blogging! I just found your site and I love it. I am a 40 something mother of 3 teenagers and I have zero fashion sense. Your site as well as Audrey’s from Puttingmetogther have been really inspirational. Totally need the winter clothing ideas because I’m freezing here in Michigan. I’m pretty sure you and I have the same type of hair – color too, so your advice with that is great. I’m wondering how tall you are, as you appear petite. It’s so helpful to see clothing on someone who sort of resembles me bc it’s easier to picture myself in the outfits. I’m actually looking forward to getting dressed now, rather than dreading it. As for ageing, I won’t mind seeing you age, because I’ll be getting older with you ;). Keep up the good work!

  3. Cyndi-
Just like everyone else said, I agree too. Don’t stop blogging because of age or because you get wrinkles. We will be getting the wrinkles right along side you and look forward to your suggestions and encouragement along the way. Beauty is focused on the inside, right? 🙂 I’m glad you can blog full time now. You seem to love it and that’s a blessing. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Thank you for doing what you do!

  4. I understand being concerned about the changes time brings but I think it is so important to show people (especially children we love) that these changes can be beautiful too. Some day people will be missing your beautiful face as my loved ones will miss mine-extra chins, wrinkles and all. Often people are hardest on themselves-your readers enjoy you and I hope you enjoy us-for a long, long time. <3

  5. This past Sunday in our Ladies Sunday School class, we did a study on honesty and sincerity. It was really eye opening, thought provoking and toe stomping! All the ladies would have said, “of course I’m honest”! After the lesson, though, I think we were asking ourselves, “am I really honest and sincere ALL the time”. The lady of Proverbs 31 was our example to follow. From the study of her life, we see that she was honest and sincere……for real! It was evident in the way that her husband trusted her, “Proverbs 31:11-12
The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her,
so that he shall have no need of spoil.
She will do him good and not evil
all the days of her life.” I’m sure others trusted her as well. I hope others can trust me because they find me honest and sincere. As you, Cindi, and other commenters have made clear, honesty and sincerity might mean admitting that we are not perfect.
It was good to see you on Sunday at Panera! I think I’m finished shopping! I’m glad!
I hope you and your family have a wonderful and Merry Christmas!

  6. Hey Cyndi! Just a little word of encouragement. I am a 34 year old mom of two little boys & I love your blog! Your style is timeless & classic with a trendy edge! As I look in the mirror or pictures of myself I realize I don’t look like that girl in high school/college anymore & that’s okay. I still feel like that on the inside, even if I don’t look like it on the outside. I think your blog is such an inspiration of how to age gracefully while still remaining “current!”. God Bless you & your family & I hope you have a very Merry Christmas!

  7. HI Cyndi, please don’t stop blogging because of “age”. I, like many above in the comments, found you via Pinterest when looking for “fashion for women over 40”. I like to look put together and fashionable, and reasonable for someone not in their 20’s. You have inspired so many great looks for me, I’ve used my wardrobe and purchased some gorgeous items. I found Allison’s style challenges, which I’m also loving. Don’t let the world tell you that beauty is only for the 20’s. As others mentioned, your inner beauty shines through, and you remind us all to be lights in our world. There’s nothing wrong with Christian women looking lovey and stylish, AND still shining for our Lord. Keep it up. I also absolutely loved the video. I’m thinking that it’s the theme for MOPS this year? I’m a MOPS mentor and that term seems oddly familiar to me. Have a wonderful day!

  8. I love your blog and look forward to each post. Thank you for your inspiration and I love your Beauty for the Heart. I write many of the verses down for easy viewing and reminder, and send some to friends as well. And, As a 50 something who still wants to look good, I love your fashion style! God Bless and thank you. 🙂

  9. Please never stop blogging!! We live in a culture that says you have to be a certain age to be beautiful. Who says women beyond 50 or 60 can’t be beautiful? What I love the most about your blog is that you focus on not just outer beauty but inner beauty. I am growing “vintage” with you and need your inspiration so please carry on!

  10. Cyndi,

I’m fairly new to your website but I have spent hours and hours looking for fashion inspiration on the web for ‘mature” women and believe me when I say you are the BEST!

You are doing important work here on your blog as you inspire women with your fashionable, affordable and real look at fashion and life. There is no shame in wrinkles or age as all ages, sizes, shapes, and colors of women should claim their beauty.

  11. I recently started following your blog and love it! I really enjoy seeing your outfits, and your words of encouragement! You are a true blessing! I can’t believe you call yourself old, you look so YOUTHFUL and BEAUTIFUL! Looking forward to your next post.
    Debbie 🙂

  12. I am probably your oldest subscriber but still love your blog. it is great that it is for over 40’s to help know there is something out there in the fashion world that can look pretty good to terrific and keep us from being insecure about whether in the quest to still look good that we are not settling for stuff that is just tooooo youthful. The added beauty of the heart remands us of what is really Important too.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and a very blessed one.

  13. Thank you for what you do! I appreciate the fashion ideas and the daily inspiration. You are a blessing. Merry Christmas!!

  14. I love your blog. As a 50 something who still wants to look good, it helps so much to see what other women my age are wearing. OK, I know you’re not 50, but you know what I mean! 🙂

When I was 20 and 30 I knew wha was “in.” It was so easy. Well, now it just isn’t anymore. I’m always asking myself, “Is this too young?” Thanks for all you do and Merry CHRISTmas to you!

  15. I love your blog and since we are about the same age I am sure I will not grow tired of reading and view your blog. Thank you for your commitment.
    Merry Christmas!

  16. Hi Cindy, loved the video , and please don’t stop blogging 😉 love your blog !
Where can one buy the t shirt from the video ? Thanks

  17. Thank you so much for your blog, your fashion ideas, your words of encouragement, the video you posted today! I look forward to reading what you have to share every day, Cyndi. I think we women will want to keep reading as long as you want to keep blogging….at every age, we want to feel and look our best. Aging gracefully is a goal of mine, and I like to think I will keep looking good at whatever age I am! Thank you for sharing your life with us.

  18. Loved the video! Thanks for posting it. I love your blog because it reminds me not to just throw on some workout clothes for the day. I am actually making an effort to wear outfits. Thanks!

  19. Sweetest Cindi, You’re beautiful inside and out so please don’t stop blogging because you think you’re getting older and wrinkled…most of who read your blog are doing the same thing, and we want/need the encouragement to grow (not older) but better with grace! If you ever feel the need to stop blogging because life takes you in other directions we’d all support you. However, your blog is a breath of fresh air regarding fashion and beauty in comparison to what the fashion industry would have us believe. And Beauty for the Heart is a blessing that keeps our minds focused on what the authority of God says is truth, and that’s what’s most important every day!

Like most everyone else, I have a hundred things to accomplish before Christmas but I’m striving to keep Christ in my Christmas each day!

    Blessings to you!

  20. Love your open cardigan from stitch fix. Wish you would share the make of the things from stitch fix…..sometimes we can google them and find them. Or hope if we post on pinterest they might put in our next stitch fix:)

  21. Thank you Cyndi for your beautiful self and blog!! You are such an encourager and I always look forward to reading your posts everyday. LOVE the video..I needed that.

    1. Yes Kristin. I’m a dental hygienist by profession. I worked 3 days a week and have now gone to 1 day a week. My blog is my full time job/business.
I’m thrilled to get to do what I’m passionate about!!
      Thanks for stopping by!
      Cyndi

  22. Sweet Cyndi, we don’t look for your wrinkles. 🙂 You are a blessing through the encouragement you share with us all to be OUR best, loved and cherished by the King of Kings. Thank you, sister! Merry Christmas and God bless you.

  23. Your age does not make any difference for this blog! Even at 70 you can show us how to look age appropriate and look nice! Lets not give in to elastic polyester pants and granny shoes….I don’t read this to see you looking like a 30 something model!

  24. I have to echo what many others are saying, you are beautiful, and you are exactly what I want to see inspiring my fashion and beauty choices. I can’t wear the styles my 16-year-old daughter wears because they wouldn’t fit my 47-year-old body correctly and it would look like I’m trying to be too young. Sometimes my daughter wrinkles her nose up at something I’ve put together, but I just tell her it’s what all my over-40 “friends” are wearing! Keep up the good work. Do this gig as long as you enjoy it. You are still relevant, Cyndi! 🙂

  25. Merry Christmas sweet lady and thank you for your daily encouragement! Can’t wait to get my herringbone vest this week! 🙂

  26. I just ordered one of the “Perfectly Imperfect” t shirts just last week! Grace and beauty from the inside out (what drew me to your blog in the first place!)…that’s what I’m striving for as I “mature”….I’m thankful I have your blog for some added encouragement along the way. And as for your Christmas question, the shopping is done…just wrapping and baking left! Oh how I love this time of year!

  27. you are beautiful and keep in mind…most of us who read your blog are near the same age…..SO! we need the encouragement just the same. Remember, we are only as old as we think we are….MANY times I have to remind myself that I’m 47 (ha)

  28. You have a long way to go before you are an old woman! You’ll still be attractive at any age. Thank you for the daily encouragement. You are a blessing.
