31 Days of Winter Fashion-Day 10

Welcome to Day 10 of my 31 Days of Winter Fashion. Today I’m styling leggings.

One of the questions I get a lot is, “Can women over 40 wear leggings?” Well of course we can!!

Leggings are so comfortable that it wouldn’t be fair if the younger ladies got to enjoy them and we didn’t. It’s all about how you style them.

Actually, it’s all about how you style them for any age woman. I don’t know how many times it has to be said, leggings should not be worn as pants. No matter how great your shape.

Okay, if you’re working out, I can extend some grace but seriously wear them to the gym and home, that’s it.

The key to wearing leggings, is make sure you wear a long top over them.

Let’s talk weather for a minute!

I have readers all over the Unites States (and some out of the United States). Winter is different for each of us, some of you live in climates that have mild winters. Others live in bitter cold areas.

I live in Kentucky and I have cold winters. I know that’s a relative term for some of you. But I call temperatures below zero cold.

Several have said I must have warm winters because of those green trees in my background. Those are some kind of pine trees and when I took these pictures the temperature was in the teens. Yes, I’m freezing.

I have to make several trips inside during the time I take the pictures because I’m sooooo cold.

With that being said, some of you could wear this cute polka dot top without a scarf or even a coat and probably be fine. But not me!!

To make this bearable, I have to add a scarf. The scarf is a Walmart scarf but let me tell you about the cute polka dot top.

Stephanie from Illinois, owns a boutique called Glamour Farms. They have adorable clothing! She sent me several pieces of clothing to share with you all and I’m in love.

The leggings are a part of their “Ahh-Mazing” line and I can see why!! They are amazing and I have a black tank on from that same line. It sucks you in where you need to be sucked in. 🙂

So what’s your thoughts on leggings? Do you wear them?

The top I’m wearing is on their website but not the leggings or tank top. You can Facebook them and ask about the leggings.

Definitely stop by their Facebook page and check them out!!

Beauty For the Heart~~I’ve been a little bit negative about the cold weather lately. I’m not a cold weather fan. The days are short and at 7:00 it feels like its midnight.

Today I read Philippians 4:8 (NLT), “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”

I was reminded that in every season, I need to fix my thoughts on these. Today I’m going to look for the lovely in the cold winter days.

Want to join me?

Have a blessed day!

**I was given these clothes to wear but all opinions are my own.

  1. Well…you look awesome in leggings and rock them out! You don’t look a day over 40 either I might add! I love the whole look – polka dots are a fav of mine. Popping by from the TPP link up!

  2. I am 52, 5’7″ and relatively thin. I love leggings except that it is hard (at my height) to find tops long enough to cover all of the parts. When I find things to wear with them, I really enjoy wearing them. I like the way you styled yours today.

  3. I SO want to be that person with the cute leggings, long tunic and boots, but, I just cannot find ANY of those pieces that work for me 🙁 And, I’ve seen some baaaaaad outfits consisting of leggings – so tight and revealing. Modesty is key!

You’ve done a great job styling yours.

  4. Hi Cyndi! I wore the same outfit a few weeks ago. I styled my denim shirt with a black and white polka dot sweater from New York & Co. and white jeans. Love your blog!

  5. This 62 year old wears leggings and boots all the time. I just make sure my tops is long enough to cover my bottom. I love this blog since I am working on upping my “cute factor” with accessories. I tend to be a jeans and t-shirt plain Jane. Your looks are all very inspiring.

  6. For the record, I would just like to add that all ages CAN wear leggings, but not every SHAPE should, even if you are wearing the appropriate length tunic. It’s just not a flattering look if you are a plus size with a thicker leg. Oh how I wish I could wear leggings with boots! I love the look and the comfort! I am nearly 6 feet tall, and wear a size 16/18.

  7. Cyndi, you look super cute in this outfit and you styled it perfectly. Here in the UK, leggings are worn more often by the youngsters and pregnant ladies! I do think worn with tunics or long sweaters they can look very stylish and the thicker the leggings the better.
Yep the weather here is very cold, you are very brave taking photos without a coat it chills me to look at you.
    Keep warm
    Nicky

  8. Cyndi,
Love your outfit. May have to look for that top myself. Loving leggings this year. I’m wearing them right now with an oversized sweater and scarf. So comfy and perfect for Sat errands. I’ve been looking for a few more longer sorts to wear with them as I’m hooked.

  9. Another great outfit! What a great idea Stephanie had when sending clothing items to you, great model and advertisement!

    1. I have love and followed Cyndi for a long time. It’s been our dream to see her in our clothes. She is such a blessing in so many ways…sweet spirit but always “real”…..and LOVE her style!

      1. Thank you Stephanie!! I was honored that you asked. Can’t believe the top sold out!! Let me know if you get more in and I’ll mention it on my blog.
        Blessings,
        Cyndi

          1. Hey Cyndi, First time to comment you are beautiful in side and out. So glad I found you on Pinterest. You just popped into my life! God is so wonderful putting people together. I can see your love for Jesus in your face. Now about that top I have got to have it Stephanie hope you can read this!? I just love your legging Cyndi I ordered a pair on sale after Christmas and I was a little up tight about wearing them. I wore them to work last week with a long blouse and a sweater coat. They were a hit you gave me the courage! Thanks for your little post and words of light you share everyday! God has given you a mission.
            Thanks, Terry Gilliland

  10. This outfit is absolutely adorable on you! I am just in love with it all and it suits you perfectly! Thanks for sharing your outfits. I always look forward to your posts.

  11. Cyndi, Would you be willing to share with us the size of the polka dot top you are wearing? Maybe on all items of clothing, I find this really helpful as a reference for ordering. Love your blog and the connection to our Heavenly Father.

  12. Cute polka dot sweater Cindi and some fun tops at Glamour Farms. I’m wondering if they sell Petites or will in the future? I agree leggings can be worn for all ages but not as pants. I see gals with such adorable outfits only to be ruined because they wore leggings as pants. My opinion only but with so many high-lo tunics out there I believe gals our age look better if the tunic covers not only our bottom but also our front when wearing leggings. Lastly, Black House White Market carries a really good quality, great fit legging. I wear mine all the time and they are still like brand new wash after wash. They are available in regular and petites…check them out!

  13. Love the outfit!
Couldn’t make it in Chicago without warm leggins and boots!
Walmart has warm fleece lined that are nice. The trick for us over fifty gals long loose sweater!
Would they happen to have a store in illionois or just on line? Thanks

    1. Hi Janet!

      1. Stephanie,
I ordered the Polka dot top (after cn it on Cyndi) & 2 other tops, just received my 2 tops but there was a note attached that the Polka dot is sold out 🙁 Bummer
It was a nice surprise that a t shirt was added to my order.
Hoping u get the Polka dot tunic in soon.

        Cyndi,
        Love ur style & blog!!!

    2. Fleece-lined leggings? I’m in! I’ll have to check that out as it’s the major reason i don’t wear them in Winter. Yes, always cover the rear end…young and old. Cyndi, I love the scarf, but having the neckline open looks amazing on you. I struggle with that same issue. 🙁

  14. I love this outfit and think it looks fantastic. I wish everyone I knew would read this and pass along to their daughters in particular. I agree that I don’t think it matters how old you are – LEGGINGS ARE NOT PANTS. I am SO tired of seeing all ages of girls and women wear leggings as they would pants. I guess 6 or 8 year olds can wear knit pants but those 16 year old girls that just wear leggings with a regular top? So tired of it… Anyway, love the way you styled this and am going to check out that website. I myself don’t wear leggings – probably related to my skinny jean phobia… thanks for another great outfit!

    1. Agreed! No adult woman looks good in leggings as a substitute for pants, in my opinion. No matter the age or size. That might sound stuffy or old-fashioned to some, but iI wonder if some women might change their minds if they saw a video of themselves from the back as they walked. And I agree with the lady who wrote that a long sweater can sometimes look inappropriate if it is skin-tight in the back.

  15. Is there any hope for leggings for gals with big legs? Seriously, God blessed me with tree trunks, no matter how much I weigh, my legs are large!! I struggle with things like tall boots and leggings. Not sure this would flatter big legs–but if others have been successful, I’m willing to try….

    1. Hi Jen! This is Stephanie from Glamour Farms! And yes, there is. I am also Plus Sized and leggings can work quite well for all shapes and sizes….you just have to know how to wear them. Always begin with a good base and add long tunics on top. By good base, I mean a pair of thicker leggings and long tank. Long Shaper tanks are great because not only do they smooth things we don’t like they also a great “thinner”. Wear the shaper tank longer and let it act as a dress and put top over it. Then finish off with a tunic – easy outfit, easy and comfy wear!
      Take care,

  16. I am almost 45 and I do wear leggings. Gray or black, and always with a long top or under a shorter skirt or tunic. Sometimes I use boots, sometimes flats. Long tops are hard for me since I am tall and long waisted. Even the tops labeled tall have a hard time reaching my hip area. You style is inspiring, and I love the skincare ideas. That being said, is the LARA microdermabrasion product only available at their Canadian website? Im in Texas.

  17. This is an adorable look. I too love the tunic. Is it like a sweter with a shirt under? Leggings took me awhile to warm-up to. I don’t wear them too often just because I don’t have that many longer tops, but I do love the look and the warmth. Us Kentucky girls have to stay warm right now. These temps are killing me!!!
Cyndi, thanks for answering my question the other day about the oils…I have another one. I also orderd Clary Sage and it doesn’t have the roller ball applicator. How do you use this one?

  18. Love this outfit and I love leggins! Couldn’t go through a winter without them!! I love White House Black Market leggins because they fit my short legs the best but I’m going to check into the ones you have on also. I received my Wit and Wisdom
denim jeggins yesterday. They do run a size larger than normal so I did size down. Keeping my fingers crossed they do not stretch out and become baggy.

  19. Thank you so much Cyndi. You look stunning as always. Thank you again…made my day. 😉

    Blessings to you,
    Stephanie

  20. That top is adorable! I LOVE leggings, but only if I have a top that’s long enough. I’m amazed when I see women wearing leggings as pants! I’d add that I’ll also only wear leggings with a top that’s full enough to cover my bottom. Just because a sweater is long doesn’t mean that it works with leggings for me. I recently ordered a long sweater, but it clung so tightly to my bottom that–well, let’s just say that it left nothing to the imagination. Not the look I was going for! 🙂

  21. I love your emails! You are a ray of sunshine in my in-box. Thanks Cindi, you are beautiful inside and out.

  22. I notice that you often wear brown books with black pants. How do you pick which color boots to wear, either black or brown? I was thinking your shoes would match your pant color.

    1. As long as we all remember that Leggings are not pants and need longer tunics, age doesn’t come into play.. I love the polk a dot top and have been seeing a few tunics with the all in one style instead of layering two shirts lately… I run cold so even in temperatures in the 40 and 30’s I love the warmth of adding a scarf… I like that you choose a black one here, so it doesn’t fight for your eye and allows the top to really take center stage.

    2. Hope you don’t mind me jumping in here to reply… All neutrals go together, think black, brown , gray, blue etc.. therefore changing the boot color from your pant color adds another element of interest to a look.
As a petite I have to be cautious of breaking up my body too much by doing this… I would reserve it for when wearing shorter tops and when wearing tunics keep the boot color the same as my pant…I am a boot addict and am lucky to have riding boots in black, brown and grey which helps me do this. I hope this helps…

    3. Hey Laura, One of the things I’ve learned is matchy matchy can age us. That is an old rule and we don’t have to do that any more.
I love mixing brown and black, I think it’s a more youthful look!
      blessings,
      Cyndi
