My Everyday Makeup Routine Updated

My Everyday Makeup Routine Updated
I get a lot of emails about makeup. What am I using? What is my favorite brand? So today I thought I’d share My Everyday Makeup Routine.

I don’t go crazy when a new trend comes out. New trends are great but when it comes to makeup I let younger women wear bright red and orange lip colors. I’ll stick with something a little more neutral.

I do like to mix and match different products from different brands.

I’m a huge fan of primers. Primers prep the skin prior to foundation and are important for women over 40. I have used Cover Fx anti-aging face primer for several years and I love it.

I use Bobbi Brown corrector in Bisque. This stuff covers my dark circles and I can’t live with out it (well, I could, but I don’t want to).

I recently purchased Cover Fx Contour Kit. I want to get this whole contouring the face thing down and this one is easy to use and even comes with a card to explain how to use it. (I’m using N Light color.)

My Everyday Makeup Routine Updated
I use Cover Fx matte setting powder in medium to set my foundation and minimize shine.

For my eyebrows, I will use different brown eyeshadows to fill them in (my hair stylist colors my eyebrows when she colors my hair and that helps too).

I’ve talked about the importance of filling in your eyebrows. You don’t want to draw a line and you don’t want to pluck them away. I also use Bobbi Brown Brow Shaper to finish them off.

Now for my eyes, I stick with neutral colors and I don’t use shimmer. Shimmer at my age can get stuck in the lines around my eyes. Right now I’m using a Bobbie Brown Eye Palette that’s no longer in stock. I like this one and would like to try it soon.

For my eyeliner I use Covergirl Perfect Point plus in Expresso. It’s not fancy at all but I like it. I play with a lot of different mascaras and right now I’m using They’re Real Mascara.

My favorite thing to use on my eyelashes, after applying my mascara is 3D Fiber Mascara. I use this almost everyday!

This is the picture I shared with the 3D Fiber Mascara. They make my eyes pop!

My Everyday Makeup Routine Updated
For a hint of color on my cheeks I’m using Bobbi Brown Blush in Tawny. This gives me a hint of color without over doing it.

Lips, I’m still using Maybelline ColorSensational Lipcolor in Warm Me Up.

My Everyday Makeup Routine Updated
If I feel I need a little more color on my face, I keep Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder in Medium on hand and I use it as needed.

These are the products I’m using right now. I’d love to hear about some products that you’re using! What are your favorites?

  1. Hi Cyndi ~ looking for a new foundation! Is the Cover Fx Contour Kit your foundation? Or is there a different product I missed?

      1. Dorian I use several different liners. Sometimes a soft pink and some are a little darker. I just recently purchased a liner from IT cosmetics and the color is blushing nude.
        Blessings,
        Cyndi

  2. Buxom Mascara found at Sephora is a great mascara. It is in a black tube with silver writing. It is by Bare Escentuals. I love it! I’ve tried 3D mascara and wasn’t pleased with it. I felt it was to thick and clumpy. The wand in Buxom reaches across all of the lashes and really lengthens and separates. I have tried all kinds of mascaras from high end to drug store brands and I keep going back to this one! give it a try and see what you think!

  3. I bought the lipstick and love it. It is very creamy and doesn’t make me feel like my lips are coming in the door before me. I must be doing something wrong becaue I rush through getting ready and don’t take near as much time as you other ladies, maybe that is why I feel like I am “unkept”….LOL. Love your ideas Cyndi!!

  4. Hi Cyndi……I have been following your blog for several months and enjoy all
Your posts!I have never heard of this fiber mascara, could you tell me more about it?
How long does it last and you do not wear regular mascara first?…is it easy to remove?
I am 55 years old and my lashes have really started thinking, maybe this would be a
good product for me!…..also, how do you keep from feeling intimidated at a ” make- up
    session? Thanks for your help!
    Rebecca

    1. Hi Rebecca!!
This stuff is super easy. Put your mascara on. There are 2 tubes of the 3D mascara. One is gel and the other is the fiber lashes.
Put the gel on your eyelashes and then you put the fiber on and then re apply the gel. Both are in tubes and you put them on like mascara. Super easy!!!
      Hope that helps!!
      Cyndi

    2. Hi Rebecca,

The Younique 3D fibers mascara is easy to use. You can use it with or without your regular mascara-I do it both ways depending on what kind of look I’m going for. It goes on just like any other mascara with the exception that it comes in two tubes. One tube is the transplanting gel and the other is the fibers. This mascara is natural and healthy to use, unlike most any other mascara on the market.
I’m 55 as well and I can tell you that this amazing mascara has become a part of my daily routine and I can’t imagine a day without it. It’s made such a difference in the appearance of my face as it brightens my eyes and really makes them pop!
I am happy to help you in any way or if you have any further questions. Here is my website: http://www.youniqueproducts.com/wboozer

  5. I use, and love the Tawny blush too.

Love the photo with the red scarf – how did you tie that? That outfit looks great!

  6. You have amazing eyelashes! Mine are short & blonde, so I use CILS eyelash primer by Lancôme and then top with my mascara. The primer is a great product! Your lipstick is fabulous with your coloring! You look so pretty.
    Best,
    Michelle from simplysantabarbara.blogspot.com

  7. Hi all… i have very sensitive skin. For the last 20 years or so I have been using Neutrogena and Almay. I am 47, my skill is dull. I use a primer but by 10 am I look like I am not wearing any makeup. I am very minimal in my hair/makeup routine. Any suggestions on where to start? I would like to step things up a bit.

    1. Hi Jill! I am 46, I get it about the skin! I use Loreal Age Perfect BB crème under my foundation (I use bare minerals makeup, very easy to use). It has a little tint and a little glow, also sunscreen. Helps “perk up” my skin. Also, I don’t use blush, I use a little bare minerals radiance, gives just a little glow, very soft and sheer.

    1. I love reading your blog every day, it has helped me in so many ways, one being updating my make up. I also I’m very interested in contouring but most are powders and they tend to age me more in those pesky little laugh lines. 🙂 does anyone know of one in a cream?

  8. Hi Cyndi, thanks for sharing your makeup routine, and thanks to your followers for their suggestions also, it is definitely time for me to make some changes. I do have a question, I have very dry skin but also sensitive, do you have any suggestions on a moisturizer? Its time to change my moisturizer as well. This is for Nancy and Miki, It takes me 1 1/2 – 2 hours to get ready, always has, I’m such a perfectionist, lol 🙂 Everyone have a good night!

    1. Can’t find anything I love better than just plain Oil of Olay (oil of old age) as my kids call it. Its light and absorbs quickly with no shine like some of the more expensive brands leave behind 😉

  9. I am a bare essentuals girl and have been for over 10 years. Love the stuff, am a junkie about the eye shadows. I am 46, but I still wear shimmers, combined with mattes. One of my favorite products are the radiances, I use them in place of blush, very soft. Love neutral lip gloss . Really love Sonja Kasuk gel liners from target. agree on primers 100 percent. I have a short version of your haircut, takes a little time in the morning to get ready, 30-45 mins, but feel much better about myself when I look a little more put together. Love your blog, have always wanted to try Bobbi Brown makeup 🙂

  10. I’ve become a big fan Eye Duty Triple Remedy br FAB for my dark circles that are hereditary. I also use HD foundation br Make Up Forever. It was fun to get help from a Sephora colorist that can your skin to match your color much like they can do at a paint store.

  11. Anybody out there have problems with milia? Its such a pain to have them removed and I just wish I could find products that discourage these pores to block in the first place! Can anybody give me some suggestions on what products to use?

    1. After having the same problem with milia, my dermotogist recommended using a Clarisonic. It has worked wonders in preventing milia, as well as making existing ones disappear. I think my skin looks much better, and moisturizer is better absorbed. Also, products containing Retin A help to prevent milia as well. A Clarisonic is pricey, but well worth the investment!

  12. Cindy, I wanted you to know that when I clicked on the link to read the whole article, there was a message that said your page was unavailable due to heavy traffic!! Too many people were trying to visit your page and it was overloaded! It said to try again later. Isn’t that wonderful? Obviously, everyone wants to know what makeup you are wearing. 🙂

    1. Hi Heather!!
Don’t worry about misspelling my name. It happens all the time. 🙂
I’m sorry about the heavy traffic. I’m in the process of switching my hosting site because I need a bigger server (technical stuff) but that is a good thing.
      Thanks for stopping by!!
      Blessings,
      Cyndi

  13. I still like Benefit Lemonaide (based on your recommendation!) as my corrector followed by IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye. They make a great pair! I have found the Ulta brand Flawless primer to be terrific…it glides on and doesn’t contain parabens. You also recommended MAC cream blush in Ladylike and I have used that for quite some time. I have read and agree that, for most of us, as our skin becomes more mature the cream blushes are much more flattering. I mainly use MAC eyeshadows because they are so nicely pigmented and have such great color choices.

  14. I’ve been using Estée Lauder foundation and loose powder for a few years but have found they keep changing things- esp the loose powder. They sold me their ‘.top of the line’ loose powder and I really disliked it – it has a shiny/sparkly sheen to it. Now you know what that does to fine lines

  15. As I age, It seems to be taking me longer to get ready. I need to allow time for searching out and tweezing stray facial and chin hairs and the list of products that need to be applied has grown significantly longer in the past few years, with wrinkle and line fillers, primers, eye creams, etc. I am also in the 1 1/2 to 2 hour catagory.

  16. I can’t live without my It Cosmetics CC cream (applied with a damp beauty blender) I set the CC cream with It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores loose powder. I’m never without Bobbi Brown corrector and concealer, it really brightens my eyes. I’ve found good ole Maybelline mascara in the pink tube works just as well on my lashes as Benefits They’re Real mascara and is a lot cheaper. Currently, I’m using It Cosmetics No Tug waterproof gel eyeliner, it always stays put until I take it off! Filling my brows in with Anastasia Brow Wiz, just because Ulta was out of the It brand and recommended this one. Mac eyeshadows in neutrals, Mac bronzer and blush. Clinique lipstick in sugared maple as my go to color. I would really love to learn how to contour!! Cyndi, I love everything about your makeup. Thanks for sharing your must haves!

    1. Penny,
I agree. I love my IT products. I use the Bye-Bye under eye concealer as an all over concealer for the various sun spots etc. It works great. I top it with my CC cream and then finish off with the anti-aging powder. It does that trick and feels so luscious on my skin. I also want to thank Cyndi for introducing me to the mascara (3D mascara). It’s terrific.

  17. Cyndi, in the picture (showing your 3D mascara) are you wearing the Warm Me Up lip color? Your lips look pink there, but in the picture showing just the tube of lipstick, the color looks much more brown. Is it the same lippie in both pix?

  18. One of my most favorite products is Younique fiber mascara! Just a FYI, the company says you are to apply a light coat of your own mascara first then a coat of their primer so that the fibers will adhere to your lashes. I have found that it works fine, in fact better to forgo your own mascara altogether and just use Younique only. I apply a coat of the Younique primer then the Younique fibers and then another coat of the Younique primer to seal the fibers. I’ve found my finished lashers actually looks better! They’re not so clumpy and my lashes look very long and full but natural! I get a lot of compliments. Just a hint if you’d like to try it sometime.

    1. Nancy, this is exactly what I do with it too! And I have found that it looks much better just with the Younique! Glad to hear that I am not the only rebel trying it out this way with the results I like!

  19. What foundation do you currently use? Also, who makes They’re Real Mascara or 3D Fiber Mascara?
    Thanks! Your makeup looks great!

    1. I’m using the Cover Fx contour kit as my foundation. If you click the products in my post, it takes you to the product. You can see all that info.
      Hope that helps!
      Cyndi

  20. Love the way your eyelashes pop! Have you tried IT Cosmetics? They are fantastic! They have a great celebration foundation and mascara that’s wonderful!

  21. One of my personal favorite primers is the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. A little pricey but so worth it. Keeps my eyeshadow in place all day. Never wears off!
I have a question for ya (or anyone else who’d like to chime in)…How long does it take you to get yourself ready for the day? Like from shower til you walk out the door. I ask because I feel it takes me forever! From shower til I’m ready to walk out the door will take me 1.5 hours! If I wash my hair it will take me 2 hours. Is this insane or what? Ha! I’m thinking there’s no way it takes other women THIS long to ready themselves! So I’m just curious. I came out of a conservative Mennonite church 3 years ago & as a Mennonite there really is no emphasis on the outward appearance so it took me maybe 30 mins then but now I’ve rediscovered fashion, makeup, jewelry, hair dressing, etc so it seems I spend WAY to long getting ready.

    1. Miki, you are so cute! I’d say it takes me 30-45 minutes to get ready, some days less, some days more depending on much time I really want to spend. Two hours is a long time but you’re having fun and enjoying your new found discovery of makeup and fashion!

    2. Miki,
It takes me about 45 minutes to get ready but I also plan my morning routine around cooking a breakfast for my son! So I do things in stages and I have clocks everywhere so that I know that I am on schedule! I also shower and wash my hair at night to allow myself the extra minutes of sleeping!

    3. Thanks ladies! I think most of my time is taken up by the hair. My hair is cut the same as Cyndi’s just shorter. But it’s a complete afro if it comes in contact with water. So I HAVE to flat iron it in small sections every.single.day or its a complete hot mess. If I could post a pic of my afro here for y’all, I would. You’d hear a roar of laughing ladies from around the world! Lol! I guess I just have to accept this as my lot in life.
I do enjoy reading all your sweet responses. Ya never know til ya ask, right? 😀

      1. I know it’s crazy, but it takes me 1 1/2 to 2 hours to get ready. That includes showering, cleansing my face (allowing time for all my products to seep in and dry)! Applying makeup, doing my hair, getting dressed. Call me slow!!

    4. Ha! It can take me anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on how much work I want to do 🙂 But on average, about an hour from shower to walking out the door.

    5. Miki, I’m a 11/2 to 2 hour girl too. I try to only wash my hair every other day then just freshen it up with dry shampoo the next day to cut the time some. I also have a little kit for a “fast make-up routine” for the days I just need to get out quickly. On those days I pull my hair into a messy bun… skip the primers… and use stick eye shadows. Because I have all of the products I use for days like this in one little make-up bag I can just grab it and apply this routine quickly without getting distracted by the products I use for my daily routine. I don’t look as pulled together on these days but at least I look better than if I did nothing. Blessings Krista

      1. That’s a great idea, to have a “quickie kit” for makeup. My hair isn’t long enough for a “messy bun” but I can do a ponytail (my husband says just wear a baseball hat – LOL). I usually take 1 hour from shower to door (very simple hair and not much of it). The thing that can bog me down is choosing and outfit; I am a clothes hoarder thus have too many choices. I try to keep a “staging area” where I coordinate a couple of outfits that are ready to go.
