How To Rock the Palazzo Pant

Yesterday I asked on my Facebook page what everyone thought about the Palazzo pant? Yay or Nay? Surprisingly, there were a lot of women who love them and are wearing them.

Truthfully, if you’ve tried a pair on and felt how comfortable they are, it’s hard not to fall in love with them! So let’s talk about how to rock the palazzo pant!

Who Can Wear The Palazzo Pant?

A lot of body shapes are flattered by palazzo pants. Believe it or not, pear shaped women can wear them because they take the width in the thigh and slim it by adding extra volume.

Skinny jeans and pants make the body look bigger, so if you have ample thighs, palazzo pants will be more flattering on you than slim fitting ones.

Hourglass women can wear pretty much anything, including palazzo pants.

The added volume creates the illusion of a slim waist so they work for rectangle shaped women and for the inverted triangle shape, the added volume on the lower half balances out your top area.

The one body type that might not look good in the palazzo pants are the apple shaped bodies. You don’t want to wear anything that accentuates the stomach area and palazzo pants will do that.

What About My Height?

As for height, you can wear palazzo pants no matter how tall or short you are.

Taller women look great in these pants but for shorter women, they make the legs appear longer. Plus if you add a wedge heel, they really create length!

What Length Should They Be?

Length is key in getting the look right. If they are too long, you will look sloppy. If they are too short, you will look dumpy.

Your pants should be on the long side, but they should barely touch the floor.

I have finally decided to give the pants a try. I took this picture and sent it to my daughter to show them to her. She always tells me the truth and she sent me back a thumbs up. I’ll be styling them on the blog soon! (I look like I’m serious about these pants! Ha!)

How To Rock the Palazzo Pant
So, are the palazzo pants outside your comfort zone? They are comfortable and if styled right, they look great and they are fun to wear. Why not try them?

  1. I love the palazzo pant, I have 4 pairs now. I have 2 that I wear with flats and 2 that I wear with heels. I am hourglass, have a behind and thighs and I am 5-4. I prefer to wear them with a longer shirt that covers the backside so my jiggle is in control lol. They are worth the “risk”!!

  2. My friend wears them and looks fabulous! I look like i’m wearing my mama’s clothes…on the other hand my friend wears skinny jeans and they don’t flatter her, I wear skinny jeans and always get lots of compliments….

  3. I definitely want a pair, but haven’t found the right ones for my 5-2 self. I think if you are a shorty, the key may be a smaller pattern. I love the black and white pattern above, a similar smaller print would be perfect. I think the pants will look age appropriate if the pattern does. I want to find a reasonably priced pair as they are a trend. Fingers crossed on finding a pair in petites 🙂 On a side note, my church is going thru some leadership changes and a time of unrest. Thank you so much for the scripture, my heart needs it as I feel called to be an encouragement and pray that God is caring for our flock.

  4. Hi Cyndi,
I am a 40+ year old school teacher. I am self-described as “frumpy”. I am 6’0 tall, around 250 lbs, have a size 13-14 foot, and have a really hard time finding fashionable clothes that look good on me! I used to think of myself as a pear shape, but after reading your descriptions of the shapes, I guess I am more of an apple? I am not busty at all, though, which is why I didn’t think I was an apple. All/most of my fat is in my belly. I could pass for 9 mos. pregnant some days! Maxi dresses are out because they definitely make me look preggers. I am at a total loss as to what to put on my body. I usually shop at Cato, and I pretty much wear some kind of loose fitting top, capri pants, and flip flops every single day.
We just got our income tax refund back and my husband said I could spend some money on new clothes (he’s bored with my wardrobe just as much as I am!), which is something I very rarely get to do. The majority of my clothes are several years old. So I give you my life story (lol, sorry!) to get the this: What the heck should I buy??? I am not a good judge of what looks good on me. I need help.

  5. These pants look silly ON ME. However, I bought two cute summer scraves at Target ( one navy/white with pompoms and one with fish with tassels) and I haven’t a clue how to wear a scarf in warmer months! Your imput and styling advise would be appreciated.

  6. I’m a plus size (16) and I tried a pair from Target. They looked so good that I wore them on Easter. I want to get some more, they are very similar in look to a maxi skirt. You look dressed up, but still comfortable.

      1. I thought the same thing also! I think they look cute on you, Cyndi, but the pattern placement on this particular pant is a little “odd”.

  7. A caution about your palazzo pants barely touching the floor. Mine barely touched the floor and two times I got my big toe caught in the opposite pants leg and nearly fell. The third time I was not as lucky and am wearing two black eyes and a broken nose because of it. I think I am so accustomed to the heavier weight fabrics and the narrower pant leg that I did not realize how dangerous they could be. My sister, Leslie Clingan, cut the hems for me as I sat on the street corner trying to get my nose to stop bleeding. Just be careful. I love mine but it will be a while before I “get back on the horse”.

    1. Oh My! Sending prayers out to you for a quick recovery. And thank you for the tip about watching the hem length. I’m dying to try a pair, so I’m forewarned….

      1. Feeling fine just look beaten. Husband is not really excited about being seen with me as all eyes turn to him not my palazzo pants!

  8. I LOVE palazzo pants and have several pair. I’m a petite 5’3″ and a size 6. When wearing them, it is important to keep your top fitted. I normally wear wedges or heels with mine. I love how they make my legs look longer!!

  9. Hi Cindi! I got a chuckle about the swoosh on the palazzo pants you were modeling! So after reading all the comments on palazzos, I think I’m going to jump on the band wagon and try on a pair. I’m 5’4″ and a 14/16, depending on fit. Usually the pants at Christopher & Banks fit me, so I checked out their website & they have a pair of solid black or navy ikat print palazzo pants. I’m going to try for the printed ones!

And if they do, then I’ll need to come up with some type of top that looks right as well. Im not comfortable tucking a top inside the pants! What would YOU style on top?

  10. Hi, Cyndi!

I just recently discovered palazzo pants and I am IN LOVE! First, I hate, hate, hate my legs. I am built like Olive Oil from Popeye – long and lanky – and my legs are like chicken legs, so when warm weather hits, I am always looking for maxi dresses and skirts. Now I have the option of pants. I love the palazzo pants because they are so light and comfy – it’s like wearing PJs… in public!!! I just got my first pair from Old Navy and I really like them. I am definitely going to be wearing them on my upcoming plane ride. They are great! Looking forward to see how you style yours.

PS – Can you please tell us where the ones you’re wearing are from? I just love them!

  11. I love my palazzo pants. I always get compliments when I wear them. They are very comfortable and they pack well for traveling.

  12. I like them although I don’t have any. One thing I would like to mention, because I see them on women all the time, and my pet peeve is this…wear proper undergarments under these pants. I see women all the time in them and you can see several unattractive things if their shirt isn’t long enough to cover the bum. I’ve seen thongs , I’ve seen wiggly-wiggly bums that look like jello and i’ve seen them where it appears the back seam is being “eaten” by the bum Anyway, they are really cute and I may have to try them. 🙂

  13. I am petite and even an ex small is too voluminous for me. They swallow me up and I get lost in them! I think it is a great look for taller women.

    1. Beth, I’m 5″3″ and wear a petite small. I find that the really big leg ones swallow me up too. Go for the ones that aren’t so flared out at the bottom.

  14. I think you look cute in those pants, but the coral swooshes right at the croch draws the eye right there, very distracting. I’d want a different pair.

  15. Good Morning Cyndi. I purchased two pair last year from Target and LOVE them! One is basic black and the other printed. Being 5’9″, I found styling with a hip-length or shorter top looks best on me. I also bought some harem pants (gathered at bottom like old fashion sweats) at an import shop in prints and love those also! Have you tried those? Very comfortable!

  16. I think that although you can wear these even if you are short, I think your build has a lot to do with it. Even though I wear an 8, I have more of a pear shape and I feel dumpy in almost all pants that don’t have a slim leg.

  17. Hi Cyndi.

I have to admit that I am not a big fan of loose fitting pants; however, the pair you have on in your selfie look great on you. If I try to pull off this look, they will probably be black. LOL I am not much of a print kind of girl either. Your styling ideas may change my mind though. 🙂 Thanks for sharing.

  18. I have 2 pair! I love them because they are dressy, but loose enough to feel very casual and comfortable. I usually wear these with a fitted top. I am pear shaped and they work well to even me out, especially when I wear a top that has a draped neckline. I can’t wait to see the ones you pick.

  19. The whole verse is beautiful!

    Isaiah 51:16New International Version (NIV)

I have put my words in your mouth
and covered you with the shadow of my hand—
I who set the heavens in place,
who laid the foundations of the earth,
and who say to Zion, ‘You are my people.’”

  20. Hi Cyndi,
Never wore these pants before, but I think they are cute and might be ready to branch out and try! I am 5’2, what type of shoes do you recommend? heels or flats? It looks like most of the pictures have flat sandals.

    1. Jane,

It really depends on what your level of comfort is! But if you are shorter, I would go with heels or wedges to help make your legs look a little longer.

      Blessings,
      Cyndi

  21. I like the look but I am 5’7″ & the ones I have tried on are dragging the floor. I don’t do alteration!!

  22. Love, Love, Love these! My favorite is the black and white outfit styled on the model….very chic and classy! I’ll be sporting this look!

  23. I bought 2 pair of palazzo pants last summer, live them! One pair is a black & white small print & the other is a large wild print, out of my comfort zone…but I get compliments every time I wear them. And you are right about the comfort. I can’t wait to see how you style them, I always get great ideas from you! Have a blessed day Cyndi

  24. Cyndi, because I am a sixty something lady, I wore these pants in the 70’s and rocked them pretty well if I do say so. However, If I wear them again, it will be as lounge pants at home or sleep pants. Not in public. Wish I could find my photo from the 70’s. They were turquoise and lime watercolor print.

I know you will style them perfectly and am looking forward to seeing the results.

  25. I love them….on everyone else! I am a pear shape and have never gotten out of the dressing room with a pair that work for me. With the right pattern and maybe a tunic top,
I might be able to pull it off?

  26. I definitely will NOT be wearing palazzo pants, but I think you’ll look great in them. The selfie you took makes these pants appear to be long or too big in the stride on you, but I know when you style them, they’re going to be awesome!!!

  27. Ok …. not sure I could personally wear something that bold of a print since I’m basically a solid person BUT I gotta know…what color/style of shoe would you put with these specific pants? That is where I always struggle….color and style of shoe

  28. I have seen this trend but haven’t really known how to put a complete outfit together with them. Maybe if I see you styling several pants, different ways I will give it a shot. Looking forward to that post!

  29. I bought a pair, and the store clerk at the kiosk in the mall, said they are made so you can also cut them off to the height you need.
    I

  30. Love the pair in your picture. That splash of coral is awesome! I’ve been looking for a pair without too much color. Don’t want to over do it. LOL! Going on a girl’s trip to NY in a couple of months and I think this would be awesome to wear. Can’t wait to see what you pair with them.

  31. I think I’d wear them if they were a solid color because I’m not sure I want to stand out that much…Although I think the pants are cute on you!

  32. I do like them Cyndi. Being on the short side, I definitely need to add a heel. And yes, they are comfy too!
