2. Birkenstock-These shoes are back in a big way this spring. They definitely have a casual vibe to them. It seems we have strong opinions about these shoes. You either love them or you hate them. 🙂

I wouldn’t say I hate them but I don’t think they’re my style. If you love a casual, comfortable look then these might be just the shoe for you!

3. Limelight Kloe Wedge-Oh how I love a wedge heel and they are perfect for spring and summer weather.

If you are on the petite side, these will add some much needed height.

I would definitely say I’m a wedge girl because I like wearing a heel!

It’s easy to see how different shoes can create different looks. Which could be a good excuse to own more shoes, right? (wink)

Beauty For the Heart~~I’m doing a bible study right now on the book of Jonah. Jonah 1:12 says, “Throw me into the sea,” Jonah said, “and it will become calm again. I know that this terrible storm is all my fault.”

Jonah knew that God could calm the storm. The God of heaven, commands and controls the sea. If he can calm the storms in Jonah’s life, don’t you think He is able to control our storms too?

Have a blessed day!

  1. Wheweeee just getting caught up on some computer time and always love your blogs… I love the first pair and the wedge shoe. Although I like your Birkenstock shoes, they are not my style either. On our trip to Ohio, my daughter and I stopped along the road at a Shoe Store and she finally found the shoes for her high school graduation.. a pair of white eyelet wedges. Just what I wore when I was her age.. I loved the wedges when I was a teen.
Loved your outfit …love white jeans!

  2. While I like being at the forefront of fashion, there are some things I simply can’t embrace, regardless of who wears them or how they are styled on the runway and birks are it. HOWEVER, I am happy for those who are limited in what they can wear due to feet problems because they are now at the forefront! My mom is one of those people!

  3. My sister-in-law wears Birkenstock all the time due to foot problems. I think they are so ugly! Love wedges but those are a bit too high for my taste. I’d probably fall over. I prefer something a little lower. Love the coral top with white jeans!!

  4. I would have to pass on all three. The tennis shoes I think are too juvenile for me (I’m 56); I agree with another post, there are so so many cute flats out there and these aren’t one of them; the wedge is to high to be casual, in my opinion. I think you’ve got some other wedges that would look better. Have a blessed day!

  5. I happen to think the Birkenstock is so cute (especially the 2 strap style you chose)….imagine with a cute skinny distressed jean or boyfriend jean — or even a cute casual dress. The company has been around for years – that should say something. You look nice in all 3 – different events call for different shoes – I think you need all three 🙂

  6. I love the wedge. Im 5’5″, so I like the extra height the wedge gives me. However, I can’t wear them all day if they are not comfortable. I like those vans on you too. I just recently have been hearing about Birkenstocks, so it was interesting to see what a pair looks like. They may be comfortable, but couldn’t they make them more stylish?
I have been loving your fashion advice and your scripture verses, Cyndi! Thanks for inspiring me in both fashion and in my faith!

  7. I’m gonna have to pass on all! ? I do love a wedge but those are a bit much, have never been a fan of Birkenstock and I agree with one of the others that the Van’s look a bit masculine. Although your post today is about shoes, I do love your coral tee and white jeans (and think it would look super cute with gold sandals!)!! ?

  8. I personally like the Vans on you with this particular outfit. Then again, you always looks nice! I guess the question is…which look do you like the best?!

  9. I’m definitely a low wedge gal but bought a pair of Birks last week. I have never liked the looks of them until the metallic thong style came out. They are really cute. It was one of those never say never moments Cyndi 🙂

  10. The vans, no, I am not 14. The birkis, no. I can find comfortable that are not ugly. The wedges, YES! Love?

  11. Love the look of so many shoes, but after multiple foot surgeries, I almost always go for comfort any more. I just have to do that! Having said that, though, I REALLY don’t like the dark shoes with the white jeans! Neutral, metallic, or bright colored, but not the black! Just me! ?

  12. I like a pretty flat sandal, perhaps in a metallic. I recently purchased a pair of floral loafers from Marshall’s. I’ve been wearing them a LOT.

  13. Some think it weird that I pick my shoes out first, before my outfit. I think about what I’m doing that day. Am I going to be walking a lot, or will i mostly be sitting. If I’m notsure what all the day will hold, I’ll carry an extra pair of shoes with me. Call me weird, I’m ok with that. But I will be comfortable.
I love those wedges! Might need to add another pair of shoes to my collection… Hahahaha ?

  14. You looked lovely in all three shoes. However, I have never liked Vanns as I think they look masculine. I wore Birkenstock s back when they were all the rage. As a teacher and young mom, they were soo comfortable even tho I always felt they were ugly! Wedges would be my natural choice now that I’m retired and only work part-time as a secretary. I still tho would choose a strappier wedge. I like the height but the design looks almost gladiatorish which I don’t care for. Isn’t it amazing how we all have such different opinions? By the way, I wish I looked like that in !y white jeans! 🙂

  15. Lower wedges are my go to style of shoe. I am thinking about buying some converse or vans style shows. Since I teach high school, I am perhaps overly worried about dressing too young, other teachers, my age, wear casual athletic shoes and look so fun.
Now birkis just hold no appeal to me…

  16. All three are very cute on you! Personally I’m not a Birks person. I bought a pair of Sam Edelman sneaker loafers at Marshalls and love them.
I’ve been curious about wedge heels -when I try them on I feel like them make me have to walk a lot different than normal shoes because they aren’t flexible. Am I right? Everyone says they are so comfortable but they seem very awkward to me.

  17. I can definitely see myself wearing all three. I have silver Birkenstocks, white loafers and wedges. I love my Birkenstocks. I also love converse and have them in blue eyelet. Have you ever tried orthoheal? They have cute shoes.
So, did the essential oils really help your hot flashes?

  18. I have been wearing Birks since 1995. For years, all through my professional career I wore heels….high heels as I loved them!!! But I developed foot issues that might have required surgery or I could try Birks. Love them for comfort. I wear them everyday but of course not to church….or a wedding…etc.

  19. Hi cyndi, I am going to be 39 and a mom of a 5 and 4 year old. I follow ur blog daily and have really enjoyed all ur helpful tips on clothing, shoes and hair. I am catholic, and love all ur positive spiritual quotes, really helps me daily. Thanku for all ur help!!:)

  20. I’m 53, work full-time, and have a good time otherwise. For work I love a wedge. I like that I feel more professional but it has the comfort of a wedge. I enjoy a good ballet-ish flat for lots of walking and prefer Converse over some of other athletic-y shoes.

  21. All three are cute and help give a different style to the outfit. I’m a Birks gal…I got started with them due to foot issues and have continued since they are so comfortable. I do go for the more colorful ones that don’t look as orthopedic. They do come in some really cute styles! The loafers are cute but I like my toes free in the summer…the wedges are just way too high for me! Thanks for sharing this choices!

  22. Women and their shoes!! I think all 3 look great on you, Cyndi, and can be worn for the appropriate occasion. My favorite and the only one I would wear is the wedge heel. I need the height and I love how it makes one look taller and leaner! My choice of everyday shoe is a lower wedge Dansko and I have a 3″ Dansko for errands, choir, other “out” events and want the height. I did buy a couple of pairs of Rack Room shoes – the brown strappy wedge shoe that you have, and a light orange in the same style. I LOVE THEM!, but don’t wear them for too, too long. Thanks, as always, with much love!

  23. The Limelight Kloe wedge with the aztec design is beautiful and fun ! It would be great to dress up or down . However , they are SOOOOOO high . what gives ?! I would break my neck trying to walk with those . I think most women would agree . I see girls/women wearing shoes like that ( even wedges ) and they really look ridiculous TRYING to walk with them . They look great in a photo shoot not so great in real life 🙁 sorry – They should have made them about a 2 1/2 inch .

    1. Leticia, I agree that most women seem to stand and walk awkwardly in such a high heel. Now just a lil’lower, then just magic!!! Flattering beautiful magic!!

  24. I think there’s a time and place for all of them. I love a go to loafer. I can’t live without my Sperry’s. I also like an everyday flat. Birks are not for me. I prefer a more feminine sandal; just bought a new strappy Aerosole that is like walking in the clouds. Everyone needs a wedge for summer. These are awesome, but a little too high for me.

  25. Slightly shorter wedge all the way, even though I’m 5’8″. Loafer would be a distant second choice. Birks look weird on me.

As a nail tech and it being summer, I’d like to remind everyone that the cork soles pull moisture from the feet, so if you’re a sweaty foot person, they are great for you. BUT, if you struggle with dry feet, these are no bueno, at least not day in and out. Your feet will be dry, ashy, even cracked. I see it all the time :-).

    1. Thanks for the info on cork. My feet slide around in most sandals due to sweaty feet so I’m going to give cork a try!

  26. I’m giggling a little at the yay/nay responses to the Birks. I injured my foot 2 years ago, and even then I just couldn’t choose them. I know they are comfortable, but no. Just no.

The wedges would be my first choice. I’m not short, but my husband is a full foot taller than me. I almost always wear a heel of some kind. The Vans are cute…but been there, done that in the 80s. LOL I’d go for a Tory flat or a converse instead.

  27. LOVE my Birki’s!! I never thought I would wear them until out Xmas shopping one day, my feet killing me, and I tried on a pair. I’ve never looked back 😉 I know they aren’t appropriate for every occasion, but if I could, I would wear mine every single day. The “Gizeh” style is my favorite.

    1. I agree, I love my Gizeh Birki’s!!! I have them in leopard print and black patent leather. They are so comfortable!!!

  28. Wedges would be my first choice. Even though they are high. I usually find that wedges are pretty comfortable. Second choice would be the Vans. For me, the Birkenstocks would be a “never”.

  29. No Birkenstocks for this girl! Too geriatric for me, lol! (No offense to you or anyone else) When I really want to be comfy, a sandal with a small heel. When going out, definitely a wedge, love them!! Gives me the height that I need!

  30. Cyndi, this is such a cute post! I love the difference shoes can make in the look of an outfit! No matter how one feels about the berkinstocks…. I hope we can all agree they should never be worn with socks ?. Blessings Krista

  31. OK, I will be the only one who answers “Birks” but maybe not those…….I love the three strap (Arizona style) ones and if your “blessed” with feet that have issues…..you won’t find anything more comfortable….the Van’s if you have big feet I would think they would just make them look even bigger and the wedges (I am just healing from a horrific ankle/leg injury) and they look like a relapse of that injury to me! But that is just one girls opinion…..giggle!

  32. I immediately pinned the Vans Asher and Kloe wedge shoes. The Vans resemble a casual but polished look while the wedge gives you just a bit more of a classy appearance while not going too overboard. Although I have heard the Birkenstocks are comfortable and have seen they now come in many new styles and colors for the summer season, I’m still not sold on wearing these for a weekend look. Too many times I’ve seen these shoes on women and they seem to give more of a frumpy look resembling something close to a house shoe.

  33. I can’t get into the “birks” —they just have no aesthetic appeal to me—but I hear they are truly comfortable.
I love the wedges, but the loafers are realistically cute and comfy for longer walking days!

ps…shoes are my downfall because you can gain 5 pounds and they still fit!

  34. Flat sandals would be my first choice (but definitely not the Birkenstocks, I do not like those). Of your three choices I would pick the Vans (I love tennis shoes, but I’m trying to wear cute flats more). At 5’9″ don’t need the height of the wedge.

  35. SO….the birkenstocks would be a NEVER EVER for me…just do not like the way they look. I do like the vans but with a 9.5 size shoe I personally feel like they make my feet look big and I LOVE the wedges but would never wear them on just a regular daily basis. I prefer for normal day wear just a pretty flat sandal and them wedges for going out or evening wear. IF I could only pick one style forever though it would be the wedge as I “could” wear it 24/7.

  36. I love the Vans, especially the houndstooth! Roll Tide fan here! And those style casual shoes are my go-to pick. I would not wear the Birki’s because I just don’t like the look of them. As I get older, I tend to look for more feminine styles that are comfortable. Love the wedges on you. I cannot wear heels that high but absolutely love the look. I’m 5’8″ so really don’t need a heel for height. I will definitely be on the look out for those Vans! Thanks for sharing these styles today!

  37. I battle plantar fasciitis, so I can’t wear any of those shoes, but they are all darling with that outfit!

I would wear them all with it to different functions/events. So cute!

    1. Janell, since you battle plantar fasciitis, I would urge you to try on some Birks and see if they help you. I am speaking from experience! Not everyone with the condition is helped by the same things, I know, but for me, their support was a big part of my healing. It’s not just that they’re “comfortable”; they are extremely supportive for injured feet.

I know most don’t like them, and I realize they aren’t pretty. But, being able to walk and continue daily living is pretty important, and they allowed me to be able to do that several years ago. I will always be grateful. For those of you who don’t know how plantar fasciitis feels, be thankful – and perhaps less critical when you see a woman who’s not wearng cute shoes. As the old saying goes, you haven’t walked a mile in their moccasins. God bless you.

  38. I like the sandles best. Both pair. But I just don’t like the canvas. I know they are popular. I like my feet to breathe in summer. 🙂

  39. I love, love, love those wedges… although I think all of them look great on you! My personal choice would be the wedges, followed by the Vans, and then the Birkis. I’m not usually a Birki girl, but I do like that neutral/taupey color with the white jeans.
I’ve never shopped at Rack Room Shoes, but I think I may need to check it out!
Thanks for more fashion inspiration, as always!! 🙂

  40. The loafers would be more my style. I’ve never cared for Birkenstocks although I’ve heard they are very comfortable, the look isn’t for me. The wedge heels look great on you! They make you look so long and lean. My knees can’t handle heels/wedges anymore. 🙂 Your outfit is cute with all three styles of shoes! That top is a great color on you and I like the jewelry choices, too.

  41. The heels/wedges are my style and I absolutely love those wedges. I have never liked birkenstocks. I like the loafers as well for a day of running around.

  42. Truly, I’m not a fan of any of these! I’ve always thought Birkenstocks were unattractive and I can’t see myself in those “loafers” ( I like my toes to show in the summer!) The wedges are closer to my style but at 5’8″ I don’t need that much height! There are lots of wedges out there that have less heel height and would, therefore, be more comfy. I recently purchased some cute Lucky Brand wedges that can either be dressed up a bit or dressed down. There are so many pretty feminine flat sandals too! ( Think Kate Spade). It’s great that there are so many styles from which to choose that we can all find something in our liking!

  43. I think your wedges are so cute but I can’t wear that high of a heel. My style is a low wedge, a nice flat or a fun pair of blingy sandals. However, comfort is a must for me anymore. You look great in all three of your choices! Cyndi, did you get your flowers planted? Up here in CO we’ve been socked in with rain a good part of the month so my flowers are still sitting in their trays! Gotta love the moisture though! Have a blessed day!

  44. I’m a Skechers kind of girl! I can’t wear heels/wedges…very weak ankle from a past surgery. But, I do love the look of a wedge!

  45. love the heels, but too high for me too. Not a Birkenstock fan at all… Your outfit is cute…just like you 😉 have a great day Cyndi!

  46. The Vans would be my style. Hate birckenstocks and only wear heels for dressy occassions. It is cool to see how much just changing the shoes changes the look of the outfit. Thanks!

  47. Loafers would be the most my style. I have never been crazy about Birkenstock and the heels would be too high for me. You look good in all 3, though! : )
