My New Adventure!

I seriously think I might have lost my mind!

I love adventures but this one is out there for me.

What’s my adventure you ask?

It’s this………..

Yep, I’ve decided to start sewing so I bought a sewing machine (my sister passed out when I told her).

I need pillows (I’ve made three so far) and curtains.

Mom taught me to sew but I never had an interest before.

I guess it’s because Mom always sewed for me.

Annnnnnnyway, I wanted to make a camera strap cover and so I did!

I used the tutorial from the blog Skip To My Lou and it was super easy.

Here’s the material I picked out:

This camera strap cover fits any standard DSLR camera strap. I cut one strip about 5.5″ wide and 27 inches long.

Next I padded mine with a fusible light fleece interfacing. You will need about 5.5″ by 27″. Iron on the fusible interfacing according to directions, and trim the excess.

Fold one end in about one inch, and then again over one inch to hide the seam and make a clean finish. I sewed two lines about 1/4 inch apart. Do the same thing on the other end. The finished strap after the ends are finished will be about 23″ long.

Sew right sides together with a 1/4″ seam allowance.

Trim the inside edge seam allowance, it makes more room to slide the strap in and out.

Turn inside out, (the hardest part) iron and your done! Slide in your camera strap.

Total cost was around $5.00!

Unless you count the cost of the sewing machine I had to buy to make it. But let’s not!

I’m so glad I decided to try this new adventure.

Can’t wait to share more sewing adventures with you!

I think Mom would be proud of me. 🙂

What new adventure have you tried or want to try?  What are you waiting for?

  1. Oh, well good for you! I’ve always wanted to sew. So, I decided to invest my Christmas and birthday money into a machine. Best $400 I’ve ever spent. I actually *love* to sew!! [now if I can just find the time….]

    Have a great day, Cyndi!

  2. YAY for you. Be cafeful though I might put you to work in my sweat shop, haha. I love to sew and find it to be good therapy, I hope that is what it will be for you also.

    Cha Cha

  3. I’m so impressed! {Seriously!} I didn’t ‘take’ to sewing as a child. My mom, however, sews like there’s no tomorrow. She makes the most amazing quilts (she even has one of those long arm sewing machines). My husband was deployed (again) and I took the kids back for Christmas one year and she gifted a sewing machine to me. To make it more depressing, she gleefully exclaimed, “It’s a REALLY nice one, and you get lessons, too!” Great, thanks, and no pressure! I told her I hope she didn’t think I was going to start quilting, but it has come in handy moving from house to house and needing window treatments or whatever without spending a lot of money! Anyway, I may have to give the camera strap a whirl! 🙂

  4. I have been sewing again for year now. I made a queen sized quilt for a friend and then for Christmas I made our son and his wife a beautiful quilt and our daughter and husband one also. My next will be for our 12 year old grand daughter. I really like to sew as long as I don’t get too hurried or frustrated. I wish I had a sewing ROOM. That would be wonderful.

  5. It’s going to take me a long time to recover from reading this post. 🙂

When will stop trying to be like me?!

    Okay, seriously…Mom IS proud!

    xoxo

  6. You did a great job on your camera strap!! I have been contemplating the whole sewing machine now for about 3 months…I really need to learn how! I depend on my mom for everything (throw pillows, curtains, etc.) when I really should be doing all of it on my own!! I am just waiting on the money to buy one. Since I am a stay-at-home mommy now & not working, I feel guilty spending money or making purchases just for me! Maybe I will ask my hubby to get me one for Mother’s Day this year!
