His Final Words were Important….

Final words are important.

Think about the final words we say to our children before we leave them.

Things like…..

I expect you to be on your best behavior.”

Make sure you mind your manners.”

As our children grow and become teenagers our final words are things like…..

Drive safe!”

Make sure you wear your seatbelt.”

Don’t forget you have a curfew.”

And of course, “I love you.”

We say the things that are most important to us in those final moments.

Final words are important.

Jesus also left us with some important words before he left and ascended into heaven.

Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus says, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

If these were Jesus’ last words He must have wanted us to really listen and take them to heart.

We are to “go make disciples.”

And the best part is Jesus says, “I am with you always.”

I love that!

In my everyday life of going, He is with me.

Today, take comfort in knowing Jesus is with you.

Do you take these final words of Jesus to heart? I’d love to hear from you!

  1. Wow, yes those were Jesus last words and today that is the great commission. Go and make disciples of all nations. He knew that he could no longer spread the gospel or win lost souls. He has given that responsibility to his people and he encourages us to tell others about him and his blessings, he promises us that he will be with us, because he knows that sometimes we fear sharing about him with others. He will make us fishers of men. He tells us to make disciples of all nations, he breaks the barrier of race, and nationality. @ Terri Steffes, yes he is with you and promise to always be there. I to have went through chemo, and radition and was with me every step of the way. He is awesome! @ Tara yes he tells us to continue to teach after we make disciples.

  2. of course!

What could be more comforting when you are going through chemo? What else do you think before you go in for surgery? These words were on my heart especially during cancer treatments and even now they are whispered on my heart as I go through my life. Praise the Lord!

  3. I think that the “making disciples” is so important- so often we focus on evangelism (obviously, very important!), but we neglect to really disciple believers at all stages in their spiritual journeys. And most importantly, it begins in our own homes. Joshua 1:9 has a similar message re: God’s presence with us.
