Skin Care For Women Over 40

Let’s just admit at this stage of the game, our skin care regimen has to be good. We’re well past our 20’s where you can play around with some skin care products, right?

Over the last few years I’ve been paying close attention to what goes on my skin. I try to use products that don’t have a lot of chemicals in them, which over time can actually hurt your skin. Who knew?

Since several people have asked what I’m using right now, I thought I’d share my products with you.

Several months ago a company contacted me about trying LARA beauty products. I did use the products and they were really good but by far, the product I fell in love with is the polishing microderm abrasion. This stuff is amazing!! Your skin feels so soft after using it.

This fragrance-free home spa treatment, rich in Vitamins A, E and F, gently exfoliates worn and damaged skin to clear pores, remove blackheads, and help prevent acne.

The best thing is a jar of the microderm abrasion is only $24! And right now through December 31st you can get 10% off using the coupon code MD10. Yes, I will be ordering this!

Next, I’ve been trying Key West Retinal Cream. This retinol night cream is an advanced formula with 97% natural and 71% organic ingredients, unlike most retinol creams that contain heavy amounts of synthetic ingredients and fillers.

Skin Care For Women Over 40

At a strength of 2.5%, it contains 2 1/2 times the amount of retinol as the standard 1% strength found in most retinol creams and is the strongest percentage available without a prescription.

You can buy the Key West Retinal Cream on Amazon for $38 (regular $79.99). It has great reviews on Amazon!

The one product that I’m using that isn’t organic is Bobbi Brown advanced eye cream. I really like this eye cream! I do have some organic products I’m going to try when I run out of this.

Lastly, I use Young Living’s ART Skin Care System. This Skin Care System utilizes the advanced anti-aging technologies of DNA recovery to help skin look and feel softer, cleaner, and younger.

I’m also using a foaming face wash from Young Living but forgot to put it in the picture. To learn more about Young Living you can go here.

There you go, that’s what I’m using. Have you found a skin care product you love and can’t live with out?? Let us know!

My 6 “Must Have” Hair Products

I’m in the process of letting my hair grow out. It’s in that not looking so good stage. I’m going to try for a few months and then if it’s not working for me, I’ll cut it off.

Here are some haircuts that I like. I want a longer version of the angled bob cut.

blond hair
My hair could never look like this, but I love those curls.

hair and curls

I get the most emails about my hair. What do I use? What kind of cut? Do I have thick or thin hair?

My cut is supposed to be an angled bob cut but since I’m growing it out a bit, it’s not as angled as I would like. I’m going to fix that the next time I get my hair cut.

I have fine hair, but I have a lot of it. So when it’s cut shorter, it gives an appearance of thick hair.

Here are my 6 “must have” hair products.

6 must have hair products

1. Aquage Uplifiting Foam-Weightless volume-building styling product. I use this on damp hair.

2. Macadamia Healing Oil Spray-I spray this on my damp hair. Healing Oil Spray is an ultra fine mist that instantly absorbs into hair, weightlessly infusing moisture, health, softness, protection, control and shine.

3. Flat Iron- I use a Chi Flat Iron.

4. Hairspray- I use L’Oreal hairpray but hairspray is a must for me.

5. Tresemme Heat Protective Spray- I spray this product on my dry hair to help protect it while using my flat iron.

6. Teasing Brush- This is a must! If you like volume, a teasing brush will help you achieve it.

What are your must have products?

4 Beauty Products You’ll Want To Try

I love to share beauty products with you that I use and really like. Here are 4 Beauty Products You’ll Want To Try!

4 Products You'll Want To Try

1. L’Oreal Paris Extra-Intense Eyeliner-This is a liquid pencil eyeliner that glides on smoothly and evenly for beautiful definition in a single stroke. It comes in brown, which is the color I use. It is intense so use sparingly.

2. L’Oreal Elnett Strong Hold with UV Filter Hairspray- Where has this been all my life? This stuff is great!! Doesn’t feel like you’re wearing hairspray but definitely gives you lasting hold. I use the UNSCENTED because I’m not crazy about the smell.

3. Marcelle BB Cream Golden Glow-I received this as a sample in my Birchbox. It’s always a good idea to try those samples!! I fell in love with this BB cream and ordered the full size.

This  BB cream is a blend of powerful antioxidants and soothing aloe and chamomile work together to calm and even skin tone. Flecked with tiny, light-reflecting pigments, this hypoallergenic, gluten-free, perfume-free, and oil-free formula is perfect for those with sensitive skin.

4. Revlon ColorStay Shadow Links- I think you can buy several and link them together. Not sure, but I purchased the taupe color and love it. I like to keep it simple and apply one color to my lid most days.

I thought I’d share another Young Living essential oil I use everyday. Have you ever heard the song, I’ve got the Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy down in my heart?

Every time I use this oil, I think of that song. I rub a little bit of this oil over my heart several times a day. This oil has an uplifting scent and promotes feelings of love.

The great thing about this one is, it comes in the Premium Starter Kit. Many of you have ordered the Premium Starter Kit and you’ll get to try this oil. Yay!! I think you’ll love it.

For more information you can go here.

Have you tried any of these products?

8 Fall 2013 Makeup Trends {Part 2}

31 Days of Fall Fashion & Beauty Tips
Hello! It’s Day 5 of 31 Days Of Fall Fashion & Beauty Tips! Yesterday I shared four of the 8 Fall 2013 Makeup Trends, so today I’ll share the rest of them with you. Let’s get started!

5. Pink or peach blush-This is a look I can go with! Soft pink and peach blushes seem to be the trend. So ditch those brown and dark blushes for a pink or peach.

8 Fall 2013 Makeup Trends {Part 2}

A pretty blush that is perfect for fall! There are several colors to choose from.

6. The Cat Eye- Look how cute she looks with the cat eye. I’m afraid my line would be uneven because I would be trying to dodge all those pesky fine lines! :-)

8 Fall 2013 Makeup Trends {Part 2}

This is on my list of things to purchase! This eyeliner gel gets great reviews!! I would purchase a brown color, not black.

7. The Smokey Eye- Oh boy I cannot pull this look off! I look like I’ve got dark circles for miles when I try this. But if you can do it, go for it!

8 Fall 2013 Makeup Trends {Part 2}

8. Orangey Eye Shadow- I kind of like this look. If I add a touch of orangey eye shadow, I might could pull this off. Remember if you’re over 40, be careful about adding too much color to your eyes. Neutrals seem to work best for our age. Also don’t try to match your eye shadow to your outfit. Matchy Matchy is old lady (yikes, did I just say that?)

8 Fall 2013 Makeup Trends {Part 2}

Alrighty, that’s the rest of the makeup trends. Of course, there are some I left out like glitter eyes and lines drawn in strange places but they’re way too out there.

What do you think about these looks? Can you pull off the smokey eye?

Some of you have emailed me about good brushes. This set has good reviews and is a pretty good price so I thought I’d share it with you. (click on the picture and it will take you to Sephora.)

8 Fall 2013 Makeup Trends {Part 1}

Yay for Friday! It’s Day 4 of 31 Days of Fall Fashion & Beauty Tips and I’m sharing 8 Fall 2013 Makeup Trends with you.

31 Days of Fall Fashion & Beauty Tips

Before we get started please watch this quick 16 second commercial. Have you seen it? Every time I watch it I laugh out loud!!

This commercial is making a very good point that we all need to remember. Just because it’s “trendy” doesn’t mean we have to wear it. I’m not saying you shouldn’t rock the smokey eye but let’s be careful that we don’t make ourselves look stupid! :-)

Okay, with that said here are 8 Fall 2013 makeup trends and some of my tips sprinkled in too.

1. Brows, brows, brows! In case you haven’t heard me say this before, thicker brows are in. So don’t over pluck! Fill them in so that they look natural, no lines! (A fuller brow gives you a more youthful appearance.)

8 Fall 2013 Makeup Trends

I use Brun eyeshadow my Mac to fill in my brows.

2. The no makeup, makeup look. This look is all about finding the right base. Then add minimal color for a flawless look!

3. Lashes! Long lashes are “in”!  Hmmm, so how can we be on trend if we don’t have long lashes?

Two things: 1. Use a good mascara and 2. Add false eyelashes.

I love wearing false eyelashes. I don’t wear them everyday but when I do, I think my eyes stand out. This picture was taken this year on my birthday and I was wearing false eyelashes. They’re not over the top but just give my eyes a little boost. (I’m planning to do a tutorial on applying false eyelashes.)

8 Fall 2013 Makeup Trends

I also use Benefit They’re Real! Mascara. It’s a best seller on Sephora’s website.

4. Plum or burgundy lips. Okay, I’m not a fan of this. But if you’re in to dark lipstick you’ll love this color. For women over 40, dark lipstick can be harsh. I try to play up my eyes and stick with a lighter lip color.

8 Fall 2013 Makeup Trends

I’ve shared four of the 8 Fall 2103 Makeup Trends, stop back by tomorrow and I’ll share the rest of them with you. (Sorry I just dislike long posts! I like short and sweet.)

Which one of these fall 2013 makeup trends do you like? dislike? I love to hear from you!

Beauty For the Heart~~Chorus to the song, Were It Not For Grace by Larnelle Harris.

Were it not for grace, I can tell you where I’d be
Wandering down some pointless road to nowhere
With my salvation up to me and I know how that would go
The battles I would face forever running but losing the race
Were it not for grace
Forever running but losing this race
Were it not for grace

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

Nail Color Trends For Fall 2013

Welcome to Day 3 of Fall Fashion & Beauty Tips! Today we’re going to talk nail color trends. A pretty manicure is always in style and just because sandal weather is leaving us doesn’t mean we don’t want our toes to look nice.

31 Days of Fall Fashion & Beauty Tips

Taegan Tanner from Elle magazine says, Nail art may be dying down, but the right color is everything this season. I have to admit I won’t be sad to see nail art dye down. I’m not a big fan.

Last year during my 31 days series we talked about nails for women over 40. Here are a couple of tips:

Dark polish can accentuate your aging hands. Dark polish shortens your fingers but a light color elongates them. If you want longer, younger looking hands go neutral. Here are some beautiful nail polish colors if you want to go neutral.

Neutral Nail Color

I like to save the fun colors for my toes. If you’re over 40, it’s best to avoid excessive glitter and nail art. (This makes you look like you’re trying too hard to look young!) Agree or disagree?

Here are some fun colors for fall 2013 to try!

Nail Color Trends For Fall 2013

What do you think about this year’s nail color trends? Do you wear dark nail polish or neutral colors?

On a side note ModCloth asked if I would participate in their Uniquely You campaign by creating a lovely look with this mint green dress. I had to use items from their website to style the dress. They will be picking a winner from the bloggers who participated.

Here’s how I styled the dress~~Simple and Classic

Beauty For the Heart~~This was straight from my devotional book Jesus Calling this morning, “When many things seem to be going wrong, trust Me. When your life feels increasingly out of control, thank Me.”

But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. Psalm 13:5. I’m trusting Him today!

Have a blessed day!
