Maxi Skirt Fashion For Women Over 40

You’ve probably noticed all the maxi skirt fashion for spring and summer. Some of you have emailed me and asked if women over 40 can wear them. Can I just say “Yes!” This is a great trend for women over 40!

The key is knowing how to style them for your body type. If you are thin with slender hips you can wear them with your shirts tucked in or tied at the waist.

But if you’re like me, and you’re curvy in your hip area then it’s better to leave your shirt out (this is my opinion). If I tied a knot at my waist, it would accentuate my hips and they don’t need any accentuating!

You can’t see my shoes but I wore black sandles. I also added my jean jacket because I wore this to church and I felt I needed to cover up a little.

Lastly, if you have some extra weight in your stomach area, you can wear a looser fitting blouse over your maxi skirt.

Have you tried wearing a maxi skirt this spring? How do you wear your skirt?

Mother’s Day Outfits

It’s hard to believe this weekend is Mother’s day. It’s still a little difficult for me since losing my Mom in 2009. I miss her so much! If you still have your Mom hug her extra tight, there’s nothing like a Mother’s love.

We do have an exciting weekend because my son is graduating from Law school this Saturday. I know my Mom would be so proud of him! Mom adored Cory and he adored her!

This picture was taken at Cory’s high school graduation in 2006. He was picked as the Salutatorian of his graduating class and Mom and Dad were thrilled. He went on to play college basketball at Asbury College, where he graduated in 2010.

Mother's Day Outfits

With all the celebrations, I’m trying to figure out what to wear. Do I wear a dress, pants, capri pants, etc.??

Here are some tips if you’re trying to decide what to wear for Mother’s Day:

1. If you’re going to wear something you already have but want to update your outfit add some cute accessories. I love to do this! I recently purchased this coral stud bracelet from J Crew (remember when I said studs were in style and you all said you couldn’t wear them?).  The thick gold bracelet is from JC Penney’s and the cross bracelet is from Francesca’s.

2. Update an outfit you already have by updating your shoes. This can make all the difference and it’s an easy way for women our age to look trendy. Right now wedge heels are everywhere so adding them to your outfit will give it an updated look.

3. My rule of thumb is, “it’s better to be over dressed than under dressed”. Thankfully, women’s styles are dressier and more feminine right now and I’m glad. So if you’re not sure what to wear, go with something dressy and feminine and you’ll look great!

Here are some outfits (new and old) I’ve put together that would be perfect for Mother’s day.

How are you celebrating Mother’s Day? Do you know what you’re wearing?

Beauty For the Heart~~I shared this poem in 2011. My brother wrote it right before my Mom passed away so I thought in honor of Mom, I’d share it again.

There is None Better!

I hear people brag about their moms, but if they ever met mine they would know. There is none better.

You think you know a Christian that talks the talk and walks the walk? Well let me introduce you to my mom. There is none better.

I always thought the best way to describe a Christian is “Servant.” You should meet my mom. There is none better.

Do you know someone who is unselfish? Puts everyone above themselves? Would give you anything they had? I call her Wanda Faye, she’s my mom, and trust me, There is none better.

I’ve known her 37 years. I’ve seen her faithfulness. I’ve gotten up at 5 in the morning and found her reading her bible. I’ve watched her prepare to teach bible studies. This isn’t just a bias. I’m telling you! There is none better.

She’s fighting cancer now. She even does that selflessly and gracefully. I can’t tell you how many cards she has received. What does my mom do? She uses all the energy she has to try and write everyone back. Do I really need to do anymore convincing? There is none better.

If you’ve been fortunate enough to meet my mom you know what I mean. If she’s touched your hand, smiled that sweet smile, told you she loved you, told you she was praying for you, well consider yourself blessed…she meant every word. There is none better.

If the Lord does decide to take her home before we are ready. I can’t say I blame him. He knows what I do. There is none better. ~by Blake Long

How To Wear White Pants

Spring is officially in full swing so I’m pulling out the white pantsWhite is such a great versatile color and it looks like it’s going to be very popular this season. I love wearing white pants but sometimes wearing them can be a little tricky.

How To Wear White Pants

Here are 3 things to remember when wearing white pants.

1. Always wear neutral undergarments. White and dark undergarments will show through.

2. Pair white pants with a neutral shoe. To keep yourself from looking like a nurse don’t wear them with white sandals. A neutral sandal looks best.

How To Wear White Pants

3. Don’t wear “too-tight” white pants. White tends to show every imperfection so you don’t want them to be too tight. If the pockets are showing through, cut the pockets out.

How To Wear White Pants

If you’re reluctant to wear white pants because you think they make you look bigger, focus on finding the perfect fit for your body type. Play with different tops and shapes or try longer blouses or short dresses over your pants.

Are you wearing white pants yet?

Printed Denim For Women Over 40

Printed Denim for Women Over 40

This spring, printed denim is showing up everywhere! But the question is, can a women over 40 wear them? The answer is, absolutely! It’s all about knowing how to wear them.

***********************************************

I recently purchased a pair of printed denim pants but when I got them home I realized they weren’t the most flattering fit. They were tighter in the legs and too big in the waist. Fit is important!

Here are some tips to help you find the right pair of printed denim:

1. Make sure you have a comfortable fit with a high-enough rise to cover up the dreaded muffin top. Wearing low rise at our age doesn’t work (actually it doesn’t really work at any age).

2. Go with a darker denim. Darker denim gives us a more streamlined look.

3. Try a smaller floral print. It’s less obvious and therefore easier to wear.

4. The key to wearing printed denim is keeping everything else simple. The floral pattern is all the attention the outfit needs. Try wearing the denim with a long loose blouse, or a T-shirt and a blazer.

Have you tried printed denim? Have you seen printed denim in the stores?

Stitch Fix Box #4

Good morning! Today I’m sharing my latest Stitch Fix box with you. I feel like the Stitch Fix team have become my new best friends. They have certainly helped me add some different pieces to my wardrobe.

I love dresses and this box had 2 dresses in it. This first one is a Leroy Dot Print dress. It’s a fun print and I can’t wait to wear it!

Stitch Fix Box #4
This is a Ronda Floral Print Knit Dress. When I first saw this one I was leery if it would work. But after I tried it on, I liked it too!

Stitch Fix Box #4
I shared this Ohara Square Print Zip-up Cardigan with you last week on my What I Wore post. I will get lots of wear out of this cardigan.

Stitch Fix Box #4

They popped this sleeveless printed top in my box and I love it. It’s great for warm days!

Stitch Fix Box #4

Lastly, they added this delicate gold necklace. I usually wear chunky necklaces so I thought this would be a good addition to my jewelry collection.

Stitch Fix Box #4

I’ve shared this before, but I love how they include these plastic cards with each item of clothing. It gives you ideas of how to wear them.

Stitch Fix Box #4
This was the first box that I kept everything (I did have some credit thanks to you all!) and I’ve already wore three of the items. I wore the black & white cardigan last week and I’ll be sharing two more with you tomorrow on my What I Wore post.

It’s so much fun to get a Stitch Fix box! Have you tried Stitch Fix yet?

Beauty For the Heart~~I can’t begin to tell you how sad I am over the news in Boston. These evil acts are almost more than I can bare. I do know this, that as loving as God is, He is also a very just God and those who do these kinds of evil will be punished.

Proverbs 11:21 says, “Be sure of this: The wicked will not go unpunished, but those who are righteous will go free.”

Prayers for Boston!
