Eye Makeup Tips For Women Over 40

Good morning! A few weeks ago I got an email from someone asking about how to wear eye makeup for women over 40. So today I thought I’d share some quick tips for your eyes.

Jennifer Lopez is a great example in this picture of a woman over 40 wearing the perfect amount of makeup. Her makeup is soft and light.

Okay, we’re probably not going to look like Jennifer Lopez but we can take some pointers from her.

DO use an eye cream specifically for your eyes before applying your makeup. This helps soften wrinkles and dark circles and will help your makeup go on smoother.

DON’T use black eyeliner. This has a very harsh effect on older eyes. Use browns and grays and try to keep your line thin.

You DON’T have to match your eyeshadow to your outfit. You should try to keep your clothing and eyeshadow in the same color family, or at least a complimentary family.

DO wear soft color eyeshadows like browns, pinks and neutrals in soft pretty shades. Often times a slight hint of color is all your eyes need to really pop and look mesmerizing.

DON’T over pluck your eyebrows. As we age we lose our eyebrows and although you might have plucked a lot in your 20′s and 30′s, you don’t need to over due it in your 40′s and beyond. Just keep them looking nice and neat.

DON’T ever draw on eyebrows. Yes, we do loose some (a lot) of our eyebrows but painting them on ages you! Use an eyebrow powder or eyeshadow and an eyebrow brush to add color to your eyebrows (I use brown eyeshadow). Dark haired women should go a shade lighter than their hair color. Blond haired women can go a shade darker than their hair color.

You DON’T want clumpy eyelashes. I’ve talked about mascara before but its best to go with a volumizing mascara.

Okay, I hope this helps. Remember soft and neutral colors look best at our age.

My Review of Garnier BB Cream

Well, it’s no secret that BB cream is a hot product these days and Garnier has one called, Garnier Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector B.B. Cream.

BB Cream stands for Beauty Balm or Blemish Balm.

In case you don’t know what all the fuss is about, here’s the down low.

It’s a new idea in skincare. BB creams are multi-taskers that combine skincare ingredients with moisturizer, primer, foundation and SPF.

They became wildly popular in Korea when a famous Korean actress credited BB cream for her flawless complexion. The Korean formulas are a bit more opaque with cooler undertones because in Asia they like the flawless porcelain skin.

The Western formulas that we use give a more glowing-with-health-skin. They’re somewhere between a tinted moisturizer and a medium coverage foundation.

I had not talked about the BB creams because I hadn’t tried one but I finally broke down and bought the Garnier BB cream. You can purchase Garnier BB cream at drugstores, Wal-Mart and some grocery stores for around $13.

Here’s what I like about the BB cream:

  • I love the feel and flawless finish.
  • If you like light coverage this is perfect!
  • It goes on very easy and diminishes fine lines and wrinkles.
  • It gives a radiant and healthy glow!

The down side:

  • If you have oily skin it may feel too oily.
  • I use a finishing powder to give it a matte finish.
  • If you like a full coverage foundation this will be too sheer for you.

Because I love you guys, I’m showing a before and after picture.

Yikes! As you can see I need foundation!

The Garnier Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector B.B. Cream, evens out my skin tone and gives it a much healthier and flawless finish without looking like I have a ton of makeup on.

Garnier offers two shades: Garnier Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector B.B. Cream, Light and medium, 2.5 Fluid Ounce and Garnier Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector B.B. Cream, Medium and Deep, 2.5 Fluid Ounce. I’m using the medium/deep.

How to apply:

Place dots of the product on your face and gently rub in to your skin. If you have areas that need more product, add more BB cream to that area. (I use my Mary Kay Day Solution and eye cream but no moisturizer before applying the BB cream.)

Have you tried Garnier Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector B.B. Cream? What are your thoughts?
