3 Ways I’m Getting Healthy!

3 Ways I'm Getting Healthy!

Today I’m sharing 3 Ways I’m Getting Healthy. One of the questions I get a lot is, “Do you workout and if you do, what workout do you do?”.  I’m not sure if you’ve noticed but I’ve been avoiding this question like the plague!

My desire it to exercise but unfortunately I sometimes put it last on my list of “to do’s”. I try to walk some, and I have several exercise DVD’s that I do occasionally.

My exercise routine is definitely sporadic. But as always I’m trying to do better! Not only am I trying to do better with exercising, I’m wanting to eat healthier too.

We stay on the go, like many of you, and some weeks we eat out more than we eat at home. That’s not a healthy eating plan! I know it’s April 1, not January 1 but it’s never too late to start getting healthy.

Here’s what I’m going to do:

1. I’m going to try to work out more. I’ve been using some exercises from the What I Wore blog. They’re quick and very doable. Now that the weather is warming up, I’m also going to walk outside.

2. I’m going to start cooking healthier meals. This is going to take some time and effort but I’m going to be pinning ideas and recipes on my Healthy Eating board on Pinterest.

3. I’m going to cut back on sugar and caffeine. These are two of my favorite things but neither are good for me. I’m not ready to cut them completely out of my diet but I do want to eat less sugar and cut back on my coffee intake.

I thought I’d share a recipe I’ll be fixing for supper tonight. It’s healthy and easy!

3 Ways I'm Getting Healthy

16 oz. uncooked bow tie pasta
1 1b. ground chuck
2-14 1/2 oz. diced tomatoes with roasted garlic
1-15 oz. rinsed and drained white kidney beans
1-10 oz. frozen spinach, thawed
1/4 tsp. salt

Cook pasta and drain. In a skillet cook ground chuck (drain any excess grease). Add remaining ingredients and simmer for 10 minutes. Serve over bow tie pasta.

I’d love for you to join me in getting healthier! If you have any ideas or inspiration to share please do!

Beauty For the Heart~~Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Have a blessed day!

7 Things You Might Not Know About Me

Good morning!

I’m so glad you stopped by today. Many of you stop by here every day.

I know you by your first name because when you leave a comment it pops up in my email.

I smile because I feel like I know you.

Well, I don’t know you in real life, but I do know you through this crazy thing called a computer.

Many of you stop by but don’t ever leave a comment, and that’s perfectly fine!

But truthfully, I’d love to know a little bit about each of you.

If I could, I’d invite you over for coffee (or tea if you’d prefer), we’d have a scrumptious

dessert ( chocolate, of course) and sit and talk for hours. Wouldn’t that be fun?!

I’d ask you what you’re passionate about, are you married, or single?

Do you have children, grandchildren?

Have you, like me, lost someone you love?

What’s your favorite food? I could go on and on~~~~.

Today I’m going to share some things about myself and if you would like,

I’d love for you leave a comment and say “Hi”.

If you want, you could even tell me something about yourself.

  • I’ve mentioned this briefly here on my blog, but I’m a Dental Hygienist by profession. I graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1988 and I’ve been practicing part-time for most of those 20 some years. Right now, I’m working two days a week!
  • I’m passionate about growing closer to Christ! I’m a mess without him and I’m determined to know Him better.
  • I love to belly laugh and I do it a lot. Ask my family, they’ll tell you when we’re together I usually laugh until I cry!
  • I’m addicted to coffee and chocolate. I can’t think in the morning before my first cup of coffee. I know I should eat something healthy for breakfast but I prefer chocolate and I so I’m always looking for a breakfast food that’s healthy and chocolate! Haha!
  • I’m the “first born” child and I fit the part perfectly. I can be controlling, bossy, and I tend to have high expectations. My motto, “He’s still working on me, to make me what I need to be.” Thank goodness for grace!
  • I love kids! I love their excitement for life. I love their honesty and they always make me laugh!
  • I want to exercise. If you asked me, I’d say I do, but I’m not sure 15 minutes a week on the treadmill actually counts. I wake up everyday saying I’m going to do better!

Well, that’s a little bit about me, I’d love to hear from you!

If you have time leave me a comment and let me know you’ve stopped by.

3 Things I’m Implementing Into My Lifestyle

Sunday market in Paris: all organic food

I was thinking this morning about all the New Year’s resolutions people made on January 1st. By now many of them have already been broken.

That’s why I don’t do it!

I didn’t begin the year with resolutions but a few weeks into January I started looking at what I was eating and drinking (diet coke) and I decided to take some baby steps.

I’m not having any huge health problems. I recently had blood work, a physical, mammogram etc. and everything was fine. But I still want to do better!

Here are 3 things I’m trying to implement into my lifestyle:

  • I’m drinking more water and I quit drinking diet coke, cold turkey. I have wanted to stop drinking diet coke mainly because of the artificial sweetener but kept putting it off. I quit several weeks ago and to be honest I don’t miss it. I do drink coffee, a girl’s gotta have some caffeine, but the rest of the time I drink water.
  • I’m looking at labels and checking the ingredients and I’m buying organic when I can. I’m amazed at how much stuff they put in our food. Things I can’t even pronounce! Of course, I say that and I haven’t been to the grocery in two weeks! It is my least favorite thing to do in the world (a little bit of an exaggeration).  Must. go. to. the. grocery!
  • Exercise, rrrgh! I struggle with exercise. I want to do it but I always find things I feel are more important. Several years ago I went to jazzercise regularly and I felt so much better! I’m not going to give up on this! Baby steps right?

Okay, this is where I am. I’m going to continue to try and improve my overall health. It’s important for any age woman and we need to encourage each other.

I’m looking for blogs that encourage healthy living and have easy (emphasis on easy) healthy recipes. I have found some but I would love to read some more.

What blogs have you found that have healthy recipes, healthy living, exercises etc.? I’d love to hear from you!!

Lastly, I wanted to share some pictures of Colt Allen with you. He’s 5 months old today and he has stolen my heart!

He’s found his tongue and look at all those little rolls on his tummy. We call him chunky monkey.

Those eyes!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

5 Ways To Boost Your Energy During the Holidays

Okay, let’s be honest this time of the year is hectic! And it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and exhausted. If we’re not careful by the time Christmas gets here we’re so tired we can’t enjoy it. So here are 5 ways to boost your energy during the holidays so you can  feel great.

1. Eat healthy~~ I know what you’re thinking, that’s impossible this time of the year. But it’s not! We’re all going to splurge on some of our favorite holiday foods but try to limit yourself. Buy some healthy snacks like bananas, yogurt, carrots, and nuts. Most importantly (I’m saying this to remind myself) eat breakfast. That’s gets our metabolism going and we all need that!

2. Get a good night sleep~~Most of us think we can get more done if we stay up half the night but truthfully we are hurting our bodies. We need sleep to rejuvenate our mind and our body.

3. Exercise~~I know it’s hard this time of the year but even a few times a week is better than nothing. If you have stairs, run up and down them several times, or if you can walk outside, a brisk walk for 15 minutes is not only good for your body but it’s also good for your sanity. :-)

4. Take a power nap~~If you’re feeling extremely tired during the day, stop and lay down for 15 minutes. Turn the tv off, all the lights and rest your body. Try not to sleep much longer because it could make you not sleep well at night.

5. Laugh as much as possible~~This is my favorite way to boost my energy and my attitude. Laughter is good for the soul! We love to laugh in my family and it always makes me feel better. So look for things that are funny and then belly laugh. You’ll feel better, I promise!

Have a wonderful day full of energy!!

It’s Been One of Those Weeks!

You know the kind I’m talking about.

Do you have them?

Please tell me you do.

I’m not alone right?

I have felt stressed!

I have said “yes” to one too many things and now I’m paying for it.

Stress makes me grumpy!

I don’t even want to be around myself!!

I googled it…..moodiness and stress.

Seriously, I did, I google everything.

I already knew what I needed to do but reading it was a good reminder.

Here’s my plan…………

1. I need to get rid of some of the stress.

I know what you’re thinking. Your kids cause you stress.

No you can’t get rid of them.  That’s not an option!

But there are some stresses we can get rid of.

I am finding more and more the need to prioritize my time.

My time with the Lord and my time with my family are high priority.

Everything else is up for grabs.

I’m going to say “no” to some things that are keeping me too busy.

As women we think if it’s a “good”  thing we need to do it.

But that ‘s a lie from Satan.

He loves nothing better than to keep us busy.

The busier we are the more stressed we become.

And let’s be honest the people closest to us are the ones who suffer.

2. I’m going to start exercising!

I use to be much more disciplined but in the last year I have gotten lazy.

One of the best de-stressers is exercise.

Exercise releases endorphins in your brain, increases blood flow, and oxygen in your cells.

Exercise also relaxes you, reduces your stress hormones and improves your sleep.

If you are like me and feeling stressed……..start moving that body!

3. I’m going to cut back on my caffeine and sugar intake. (This one hurts a little)

The effects of combining sugar and caffeine are devastating on the body.

The blood glucose levels soar and then crash shortly afterwards.

My diet has not been ideal.

I’m going to make a more concentrated effort.

Less sugar and caffeine.

More fruits and vegetables!

If you’re feeling stressed today let me leave you with this……….

Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken. Psalm 55:22

What do you do to keep from stressing? I would love to hear from you!
