Printed Denim For Women Over 40

Printed Denim for Women Over 40

This spring, printed denim is showing up everywhere! But the question is, can a women over 40 wear them? The answer is, absolutely! It’s all about knowing how to wear them.

I recently purchased a pair of printed denim pants but when I got them home I realized they weren’t the most flattering fit. They were tighter in the legs and too big in the waist. Fit is important!

Here are some tips to help you find the right pair of printed denim:

1. Make sure you have a comfortable fit with a high-enough rise to cover up the dreaded muffin top. Wearing low rise at our age doesn’t work (actually it doesn’t really work at any age).

2. Go with a darker denim. Darker denim gives us a more streamlined look.

3. Try a smaller floral print. It’s less obvious and therefore easier to wear.

4. The key to wearing printed denim is keeping everything else simple. The floral pattern is all the attention the outfit needs. Try wearing the denim with a long loose blouse, or a T-shirt and a blazer.

Have you tried printed denim? Have you seen printed denim in the stores?

It’s All About The Stripes!

Have you noticed all the stripes! I’m wanting to add them to my spring and summer wardrobe.

This dress is from Downeast and it came in my Stitch Fix box and I decided to keep it. I think I’ll wear it a lot this spring and summer. When the weather warms up I can take the denim jacket off and add sandals.

I decided to go outside and take my pictures since it was cloudy but it was still chilly and as you can see my trees look yucky. Those will be green soon, I promise!

It's All About the Stripes
It’s cloudy but I’m still squinting! And I’m having some serious “big hair” today. :-) Here’s where I purchased each item.

It's All About The Stripes

You can purchase this dress online at Downeast. The dress is the stylist pick and is only $30.

My necklace is from Groopdealz, I shared about Groopdealz here and of course a denim jacket is a great piece to add to your basic wardrobe.

Do you love stripes? Have you added any to your spring and summer wardrobe?

How To Dress Narrow Shoulders

I thought it was only fair since we talked about How To Dress Broad Shoulders on Tuesday that we talk about How To Dress Narrow Shoulders today.

How To Dress Narrow Shoulders

I think I would be in the narrow shoulders category (my shoulders are definitely narrower than my hips!).

Here are some tips if you have narrow shoulders:

  • Make sure that your shoulder seams are at the right place and fit perfectly, which means that the seam extends just past your natural shoulder.
  • Puffy sleeves work well (although I’m not seeing a lot of puffy sleeves right now).

How to Dress Narrow Shoulders

  • On shirts, the bigger the collar, the better! Also scarves look great if you have narrow shoulders.
  • Cap sleeves also work well as long as you don’t have large arms, then I would go with a little longer sleeve.
  • A wide v-neck also leads the eye to the side which has a broadening effect.

How To Dress Narrow Shoulders

  • Use shoulder pads to widen shoulders (subtly of course).
  • Opt for wider straps instead of smaller ones.
  • You can scrunch your sleeves a bit and blouse up your upper arm area, which draws attention up and away.

Remember, these are just general rules. For instance, I have narrow shoulders but I don’t like a square neck. But I do think these are good guidelines!

If you have narrow shoulders, do you think most of these work for you? Did you see my post on How To Dress Broad Shoulders?

Beauty For the Heart~~This is a great verse for us as women. “In the same way, older women are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not addicted to much wine. They are to teach what is good, so they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and to love their children, to be self-controlled, pure, homemakers, kind, and submissive to their husbands, so that God’s message will not be slandered.”  Titus 2:3-5

We have a responsibility to train and encourage younger women. To do that, we need to be mature in our relationship with Christ. It’s important that we are growing in holiness!

Have a blessed day!

Spring Trends 2013

Hey ladies! I know it’s January but I just can’t help myself. I’m taking a sneak peak at the spring trends for 2013. Of course, I want to share them with you too!

Now we know just because something is going to be trendy doesn’t mean that as women over 40 we have to add it to our wardrobe. We need to stick to with our basic wardrobe pieces and then add a few trendy pieces.

Every fashion trend is not for women over 40. Remember we’re not trying to look like a teenager!

But just for fun here are some of the spring trends and as spring gets closer, I’ll share with you the ones I’m going to add to my wardrobe.

10 Things For Less Than $100 To Take 10 Years Off

Yesterday I shared 10 things you can do in the next 10 minutes to take 10 years off. Today, I’m going to share 10 things you can do for less than $100 to take 10 years off from the book, How Not To Look Old.

1. Slim down with shapewear. Shapewear can cover bumps and bulges. Today’s shapewear is better than ever!

2. Boost your bust with the right bra.

3. Slough off old skin with a microdermabrasion kit. I love this one from Mary Kay.

4. Switch from powder to cream blush.

5. Cut some bangs.

6. Polish your toes–black, burgundy, whatever.

7. Pick up a hip accessory. A cute purse, or shoes.

8. Spring for “Body Bling.” Such as a statement necklace, an eye catching ring etc.

9. Whiten your teeth.

10. Have a tailor shorten (and narrow) your skirts.

This summarizes the things we’ve been talking about over the past 30 days. Some of you have already shared with me that you’ve added bangs to your look.

Have you tried anything else on this list? How do you stack up?
