Styling A Maxi Dress From Kohl’s

I was recently asked to style a maxi dress from Kohl’s. I love maxi dresses! I actually like them better on me than I do a maxi skirt. I have a couple and when the weather gets warmer, I’ll be wearing them.

Here’s the dress from Kohl’s. It’s Peter Som for DesigNation Striped Maxi Dress. It has great reviews and is on sale for $54.

Here’s how I styled the dress.

The great thing about a maxi dress is it covers your legs if you don’t like showing them (you don’t need pantyhose!). They’re also very comfortable.

Do you like wearing maxi dresses? Will you be wearing them this summer?

Beauty For the Heart~~ Today is a special day in our house for two reasons. My son, Cory Douglas, is getting sworn in today as an attorney in Kentucky. He is already an attorney in Ohio but can now practice in Ky. too! Yay! If you need a smart and handsome attorney I know one! :-)

It’s also my daughter Courtney’s birthday!! We are so excited to celebrate with her. We love her so much! She has been through quite a bit this last year but she has persevered. God has been so faithful!!

This is the verse that makes me think of Courtney, she loves the word HOPE!

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13

Have a blessed day!

Accessorize Your Mom This Mother’s Day With A Handbag

Good morning friends!

Today we’re going to continue to honor our Mom’s with gift ideas for Mother’s Day.

I was blessed to have an amazing Mother and although she is not with me here on earth

her legacy lives on in each of her children and her grandchildren.

I love the quote that says,  “A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie

for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie.” ~Tenneva Jordan

That was my Mom. Although I know she loved pie, she would have given it to her children,

hands down. I have countless memories of Mom staying up half the night to make us a

costume, help us with a school project, or make cupcakes for a school party.

Looking back, I don’t know how she did it all! But I’m so thankful for my Mom and although

I’m heartbroken that she’s gone, I still want to celebrate her life!

If you’re looking for something special to get your Mom this Mother’s Day, why not accessorize

her with a cute handbag. There are so many to choose from this spring/summer season and I’m

sure any Mom could use a new handbag! Here are several that I love~

This over the shoulder is for the trendy Mom and would be great to carry when you don’t want

to worry with a big bulky purse. I also love the color!

Casually sipping coffee at Starbucks or running errands around town with your children in tow,

every Mom would love this carry-all shopper handbag by Liz Claiborne. It’s perfect for all occasions.

This stylish colorblock tote would make any Mom fashionable for the spring/summer season.

It’s by Simply Vera Vera Wang.

Again, this season is all about color blocking! With a simple trim and polished silvertone hardware,

this gorgeous Style&co. bag would be perfect for any Mom.

This is my favorite one by Steve Madden at Macy’s (actually there are others I like better

but they are way too pricey for me!) This handbag is elegant and highlights a pebbled texture

with shiny gold tone hardware, including chain-link detail on the detachable shoulder strap.

I love the chain-link detail and I’m on the hunt for a handbag that has that detail.

Accessories are a great way to add trendy fashion to any Mom’s wardrobe without having to

spend a lot of money. There are so many great ones to choose from!

Do you know what you’re getting your Mom for Mother’s Day? I’d love to know!

Beauty For the Heart~~One of the sweetest memories my sister and I have of Mom when she

was dying with cancer was at the hospital when she was receiving her first (and only) chemo

treatment. She looked so beautiful laying back in the chair hooked up to the IV that would

administer the drugs. It was hard for us to see and tears started streaming down Traci’s face.

I was trying hard not to cry and told her to try and be strong for Mom.

Mom saw Traci and said, “It’s okay, sweetie, you can cry.

You know what tears are, don’t you?”  Traci answered, “No.” Mom lovingly said,

“Tears are liquid prayers that flow straight to the heart of God.”

So typical of our Mom, always knowing just what to say.

On my, I can’t begin to tell you how many liquid prayers that have flown

straight to the heart of God over the loss of my Mom!

I wonder how many of you have recently shed some tears.

Maybe because of the loss of a loved one, or the end of a marriage, maybe you’ve been hurt

by a friend. Whatever your pain, your tears have not gone unnoticed by a loving God.

God hears, and oh how he cares!

Praying today that you will feel his never ending love for you.

He will wipe every tear from their eye. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain,

for the old order of things has passed away. Revelation 21:4

Fashion Friday

Thank goodness it’s Friday! I’m planning on doing some organizing around my house and spending some much needed time with my hubby.

I know I’ve already said this (more women have filled out my survey) but your comments have helped me tremendously! I have so many ideas for 2012. I’ve even had a hard time sleeping because I can’t stop thinking about it (not good!) That will definitely lead to this!

Many of you have asked me to share my make up tips, products I use, skin care tips, hair products, and about my hair cut. I will be adding those to my blog over the next few weeks. I am also wanting to try some vlogging. Ya’ll definitely need to hear my Kentucky accent, right?

I will continue to share my heart on my relationship with Jesus~~I have been and continue to be lavished with so much grace that I will always share that.

One thing that stood out in your comments is that you want age appropriate fashion. Obviously most of my fashion is going to be geared towards women over 30, although I do have a 25 year old daughter and we do swap clothes at times. She is good at reminding me that I’m not 25 anymore (sometimes too good!)

A few days ago I told you I’m trying to add pops of color into my dreary wardrobe. I love my pink scarf and I wear it all the time. It was super cold outside on this day and that scarf helped warm me up!

My gray sweater is Simply Vera from Kohl’s.
Guess jeans that I purchased at TJ Maxx.
Boots are Simply Vera

The weather was a little warmer on this day so I wore this thinner striped shirt.

The shirt is a.n.a from JC Penney.
I’m wearing a tank t-shirt from Old Navy.
My Guess jeans and my brown wedge heels from Target.

I added this coat in the morning and evening when the temperatures dropped!

Brown coat by Cynthia Rowley, I purchased at TJ Maxx.

That’s it! Most days I forget to take pictures. :-( I’m going to try and do better with taking them and also with taking better pictures. I hope you’ll bare with me!

So do you have any great plans for the weekend?

Beauty For the Heart~~This week in Sunday School I’m teaching from Ephesians. I love these verses!

For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true. Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. Ephesians 5:8-10 NLV

Let’s live in the light and do what pleases the Lord!

You Have To See What I’ve Found!

Happy almost New Year!! 2012 is quickly approaching and I can. not. be. lieve. it!

I’ve spent this week catching up on all the things I got behind on the few weeks before Christmas. I would like to get 2012 off to a good start~~~if that’s possible.

One of the great things about the week after Christmas are all the sales! I always plan to put money back so I can snag a bunch of them but that usually doesn’t happen and this year’s no exception. :-(

Thankfully, I did get some gift cards for Christmas and I had some Kohl’s cash to spend, so I wanted to share with you what I bought.

My sweater I purchased from Banana Republic. I had a gift card and it was on sale, so I paid $17 for it and I love it! I love buying from Banana Republic because their clothes last forever.

My favorite find are these boots by Simply Vera at Kohl’s. I love the Simply Vera brand and I think these boots are adorable! I love the touch of bling! The boots were regularly $109 but they were 50% off. I had $40 in Kohl’s cash so I got them for $15.89. Woo hoo!!

So what about you, have you shopped for any great after Christmas bargains?

Beauty For the Heart~~Isaiah 26:3-4, “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock.”

This was one of my verses that I read this morning during my devotion and I pray I keep my focus on Jesus as I begin 2012 because He is the only one who can give perfect peace.
