6 Eyeshadow Tips For Women Over 40

Since we talked about eyeliner on Tuesday, I thought it would be a good idea to share some eyeshadow tips today.

6 eyeshadow tips for women over 40

Here’s the best advice I can give you when it comes to eyeshadow–stick with the “less is more” beauty rule. Too much eyeshadow will age you.

Here are 6 eyeshadow tips for women over 40:
  • DON’T match your eyeshadow to your outfit. A definite no no.
  • DO wear soft color eyeshadows like browns, pinks and neutrals in soft pretty shades. Often times a slight hint of color is all your eyes need to really pop.
  • DON’T paint three distinct colors on your lid with the last one being a pearly white shadow on your brow bone. This is an outdated look.
  • DO sweep a neutral shade across the eyes by day. If you like a little more color, apply a darker shade to the crease to add definition. You really don’t need more than 2 colors on your lids.
  • DON’T use shiny eyeshadows or shadows with glitter. These will only accentuate any wrinkles you have around your eyes.

Remember we are trying to keep our face looking soft and natural.

Most women our age look good in some shade of brown. If you’re eyes are green–brown with a khaki undertone. Blue eyes–a sand or taupe eyeshadow. Brown eyes–a light charcoal brown works well.

Do you wear eyeshadow? What’s your favorite eyeshadow? Color? Brand?

Beauty For the Heart~~I’ve started a new Bible study called Glorious Grace from the book of Ephesians. Where would we be without grace?

But God loves us deeply. He is full of mercy. So he gave us new life because of what Christ has done. He gave us life even when we were dead in sin. God’s grace has saved you. Ephesians 2:4-5 (NIRV)

Have a grace filled day!

Help For Dark Circles

I’m always, always looking for products that will help with my dark circles. The older I get the more they seem to be showing up. Ugh!

I know there are things that can help such as sleep, drinking lot of water, eating healthy etc. but on those days that some of these things are lacking I need extra help. Lots of extra help!

I recently tried MAC’s Prep + Primer Highlighter in radiant rose. It’s a pen-style creamy highlighter that brings a sheer wash of color to the skin wherever it is applied. It can be used under makeup to prime and brighten, or on top of makeup to highlight.

Help For Dark Circles
This highlighter is thin and creamy, with a sheer pink tint. It’s buildable, so if you have very mild under-eye darkness, you might not need an additional concealer. If you do have severe darkness, like me, then this will work well when combined with your favorite concealer.

It blends very easily making the product undetectable. I apply it with MAC’s 224 Tapered Blending Eye Shadow Brush. I also apply my concealer with this brush and I love it!

(FYI, I wasn’t using the product in this picture but just showing you where I apply it.)

Do you struggle with dark circles? Have you tried any products lately that you love?

Beauty For the Heart~~Today is Maundy Thursday. Ever wonder what Maundy means? It’s derived from the Latin word mandatum, meaning “commandment”.

Maundy refers to the commands Jesus gave his disciples at the Last Supper: to love with humility by serving one another and to remember his sacrifice.

While they were eating, Jesus took bread. He gave thanks and broke it. He handed it to his disciples and said, “Take this and eat it. This is my body.”

Then he took the cup. He gave thanks and handed it to them. He said, “All of you drink from it.  This is my blood of the new covenant. It is poured out to forgive the sins of many.

Here is what I tell you. From now on, I won’t drink wine with you again until the day I drink it with you in my Father’s kingdom.” Matthew 26:26-29

Have a blessed day!

Eye Makeup Tips For Women Over 40

Good morning! A few weeks ago I got an email from someone asking about how to wear eye makeup for women over 40. So today I thought I’d share some quick tips for your eyes.

Jennifer Lopez is a great example in this picture of a woman over 40 wearing the perfect amount of makeup. Her makeup is soft and light.

Okay, we’re probably not going to look like Jennifer Lopez but we can take some pointers from her.

DO use an eye cream specifically for your eyes before applying your makeup. This helps soften wrinkles and dark circles and will help your makeup go on smoother.

DON’T use black eyeliner. This has a very harsh effect on older eyes. Use browns and grays and try to keep your line thin.

You DON’T have to match your eyeshadow to your outfit. You should try to keep your clothing and eyeshadow in the same color family, or at least a complimentary family.

DO wear soft color eyeshadows like browns, pinks and neutrals in soft pretty shades. Often times a slight hint of color is all your eyes need to really pop and look mesmerizing.

DON’T over pluck your eyebrows. As we age we lose our eyebrows and although you might have plucked a lot in your 20s and 30s, you don’t need to overdo it in your 40s and beyond. Just keep them looking nice and neat.

DON’T ever draw on eyebrows. Yes, we do lose some (a lot) of our eyebrows but painting them on ages you! Use an eyebrow powder or eyeshadow and an eyebrow brush to add color to your eyebrows (I use brown eyeshadow). Dark haired women should go a shade lighter than their hair color. Blond haired women can go a shade darker than their hair color.

You DON’T want clumpy eyelashes. I’ve talked about mascara before but its best to go with a volumizing mascara.

Okay, I hope this helps. Remember soft and neutral colors look best at our age.

Beauty For the Heart~~I love this quote by Erwin Lutzer, “To make sure our convictions, views, and assumptions about our Creator stay based on biblical truth and not on popular consensus, we must continually check what we believe against the Scriptures.”

Have a blessed day!

Makeup Tips For Women Over 40

Today, I want to share some makeup tips for women over 40.

As we age, our skin changes. What might have worked for us in our 20s and 30s may not work for us in our 40s and beyond.

There are several things we can do to help us look fabulous after 40!

  • Moisturize! I can’t tell you how important it is to moisturize. As we age our face usually becomes dry so we need to moisturize to help our makeup go on smoother. There are many moisturizers to choose from so find one that works for you and your skin.
  • Use a primer before applying makeup. A primer helps prevent makeup from seeping into fine lines. I’ve talked about using a primer before. I use Mary Kay’s foundation primer and I love it!
  • I’ve shared this tip before but use cream-based blushes and eyeshadows. Powder eyeshadow and blush will bring more attention to the wrinkles on your face. Cream-based products help hide the fine lines around your eyes and cheeks.
  • Use neutral shades. Dark shades don’t look as good on older women. These women are all over 40 and they’re wearing soft, neutral shades of color on their face. Nothing too bold!

  • Use a lip plumper and lip gloss. (I have not tried a lip plumper yet but I’m going to, so I’ll let you know what I think.) Our lips appear thinner as we get older. Lip plumps and gloss give our lips a fuller appearance. I always wear lip gloss with my lipstick.
  • Fill in your eyebrows. DON’T DRAW YOUR EYEBROWS ON WITH AN EYEBROW PENCIL. This will age you and doesn’t look attractive. You can use a pencil but make sure you just add color, not a line. I personally prefer to use eyeshadow with an eyebrow brush. I think this looks more natural.

I hope these tips will help you to feel and look more beautiful as you age. We’re all aging so we might as well age gracefully, right?

Do you have any other tips to add to my list? I’d love to hear from you!

Beauty For the Heart~~This morning my devotion reminded me that in my weaknesses Christ’s power is perfect. With Christ we can do more than we could ever imagine. Do you have something ahead of you that you know you can’t do on your own? Remember Christ dwells in you and His grace is sufficient! And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.”  Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NASB)

Have a blessed day!
