Building Your Fall Wardrobe {Shoes}

31 Days of Fall Fashion & Beauty Tips

It’s Day 22 of 31 days of Fall Fashion & Beauty Tips and we’re building your fall wardrobe. Today we’re adding shoes!

Building Your Fall Wardrobe

Okay, lets talk shoes! I love this motto, life is short, buy the shoes. I remind myself of this often. :-)

Since we’re building your fall wardrobe, we’ll begin with the basic shoes you’ll need in your wardrobe.

*A classic black pump

*A versatile  pair of flats

After you have these basics, have fun and add shoes that work for you and your lifestyle.

Tips on buying shoes (especially for women over 40):

~You may not want to wear stiletto heels but a little heel does slim you. If you can wear heels, wear them!

~Stay away from old lady shoes! (I know some women have problems with their feet but I’m seeing more and more cute, comfortable shoes. Shoes do make or break an outfit.)

~I’ve read this in several fashion books and it’s a rule I live by. Don’t wear your tennis shoes with your jeans. It’s not a good look. Save your tennis shoes for working out or working in the yard etc.

Okay, I’m sure I’ll get lots of comments! What are your favorite shoes? Do you buy shoes for comfort or for style?

New Fall Shoe Collection

Well, I told you I was going to start sharing some fall fashion with you. August is here and I’m ready to look at my fall wardrobe. I like to see what I have and what things I might want to add.

I recently got an email in my inbox from Ann Taylor Stores. It said “Debuting Today: Our NEW Fall Shoe Collection”.

Um, yes, please! I clicked over immediately to see what shoes were in their fall collection. They. did. not. disappoint!

Here are some of their fabulous shoes that I’m hoping to be wearing this fall. (I may not wear Ann Taylor because of the price but it gives me ideas and then I can purchase them at my usual places like TJ Maxx and Marshall’s.)

White Heels Are Back!

It’s hard to believe, but white heels are back in again! And they’re back in a big way, at least for summer. I’ve steered clear from white heels for quite a while but the cute new styles have me rethinking my decision.

I know what you all are thinking about these heels! You would break your neck if you wore them, but they are cute! :-)

Black heels are a classic but right now white heels are making a come back!

So what do you think, do you like white heels? Are you planning on wearing them this summer?

Mother’s Day Outfits

It’s hard to believe this weekend is Mother’s day. It’s still a little difficult for me since losing my Mom in 2009. I miss her so much! If you still have your Mom hug her extra tight, there’s nothing like a Mother’s love.

We do have an exciting weekend because my son is graduating from Law school this Saturday. I know my Mom would be so proud of him! Mom adored Cory and he adored her!

This picture was taken at Cory’s high school graduation in 2006. He was picked as the Salutatorian of his graduating class and Mom and Dad were thrilled. He went on to play college basketball at Asbury College, where he graduated in 2010.

Mother's Day Outfits

With all the celebrations, I’m trying to figure out what to wear. Do I wear a dress, pants, capri pants, etc.??

Here are some tips if you’re trying to decide what to wear for Mother’s Day:

1. If you’re going to wear something you already have but want to update your outfit add some cute accessories. I love to do this! I recently purchased this coral stud bracelet from J Crew (remember when I said studs were in style and you all said you couldn’t wear them?).  The thick gold bracelet is from JC Penney’s and the cross bracelet is from Francesca’s.

Mother's Day Outfits

2. Update an outfit you already have by updating your shoes. This can make all the difference and it’s an easy way for women our age to look trendy. Right now wedge heels are everywhere so adding them to your outfit will give it an updated look.

3. My rule of thumb is, “it’s better to be over dressed than under dressed”. Thankfully, women’s styles are dressier and more feminine right now and I’m glad. So if you’re not sure what to wear, go with something dressy and feminine and you’ll look great!

Here are some outfits (new and old) I’ve put together that would be perfect for Mother’s day.

How are you celebrating Mother’s Day? Do you know what you’re wearing?

Beauty For the Heart~~I shared this poem in 2011. My brother wrote it right before my Mom passed away so I thought in honor of Mom, I’d share it again.

There is None Better!

I hear people brag about their moms, but if they ever met mine they would know. There is none better.

You think you know a Christian that talks the talk and walks the walk? Well let me introduce you to my mom. There is none better.

I always thought the best way to describe a Christian is “Servant.” You should meet my mom. There is none better.

Do you know someone who is unselfish? Puts everyone above themselves? Would give you anything they had? I call her Wanda Faye, she’s my mom, and trust me, There is none better.

I’ve known her 37 years. I’ve seen her faithfulness. I’ve gotten up at 5 in the morning and found her reading her bible. I’ve watched her prepare to teach bible studies. This isn’t just a bias. I’m telling you! There is none better.

She’s fighting cancer now. She even does that selflessly and gracefully. I can’t tell you how many cards she has received. What does my mom do? She uses all the energy she has to try and write everyone back. Do I really need to do anymore convincing? There is none better.

If you’ve been fortunate enough to meet my mom you know what I mean. If she’s touched your hand, smiled that sweet smile, told you she loved you, told you she was praying for you, well consider yourself blessed…she meant every word. There is none better.

If the Lord does decide to take her home before we are ready. I can’t say I blame him. He knows what I do. There is none better. ~by Blake Long

The Lucite Trend-Spring 2013

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed but Lucite is a huge trend for Spring 2013. Lucite is a clear plastic and is being used in shoes, jewelry and other accessories.

Here’s a shoe with Lucite added. I love this look.

Beauty For the Heart~~We are having a 12 day revival at our church right now. A team called the Life Action Summit are leading us. Wayne and I have two young ladies from the team that are staying with us. They are such a blessing!

I read this verse this morning and thought I’d share it with you, “Dear friends, we have these promises from God. So let us make ourselves pure from everything that pollutes our bodies and spirits. Let us be completely holy. We want to honor God.” 2 Corinthians 7:1 (NIRV)

My Closet Organization

My-closet-organization

I shared with you a few weeks ago that I was going to get my closet organized. My husband and I shared our master bedroom walk-in closet but to be honest it isn’t large enough for the two of us. So I decided to bail out and use a closet in our guest bedroom.

my closet organization

This is how bad my closet had gotten. I will only show this picture one time, because I’m humiliated! My husband is a neat freak and this is what his side of the closet always looks like.

Here’s how I got organized and it’s working great!

storage bins
The closet in our guest bedroom is one large closet with two sets of doors. I bought some black and white storage bins to store belts and extra scarves.

shoes racks
I have door shoe racks to help me keep my shoes organized. I also folded my t-shirts instead of hanging them up.

sweaters

There are shelves where I can put my sweaters and my boots.

necklaces
I purchased these hooks to hang my necklaces. It’s so much neater and easy to get to and easier to see. (similar one here.)

Black Velvet Hangers
I also switched to these black velvet hangers and I love them. They have a space saving thin design and you can buy hangers for pants and for shirts/dresses.

That’s it, it’s not anything fancy but it works for me. I can see the clothes that I have and I’ve stayed much more organized.

Have you all done any organizing in your closets? Has your closet ever gotten as out of hand as mine did?

Beauty For the Heart~~This week we’re having a three day prayer revival at our church so prayer has been on my mind. Colossians 4:2 says, “Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.”

Have a blessed day!
