What I Wore-Summer Fashion

So I have to say summer heat has arrived! I’m  sporting some “cool” summer fashion. “Cool” meaning, I’m wearing sleeveless dresses and shorts.

There’s something about hot weather and hot flashes that just don’t mix! I seriously think I sometimes scare my husband when we are out in public and I start threatening him that clothes are going to start flying. :-) Oh the joys of aging gracefully!

I shared this photo on Monday. It’s the only picture I took with this outfit. My husband kids with me all the time and says I need to share his outfits for all your husbands, so here’s his outfit too.

What I Wore

My outfit:
Nylon Chambray Button-Up Tank-Stitch Fix
Navy tank top-Target
Khaki shorts-Target
Wayne’s Outfit:

This is definitely a date night outfit. This is from Stitch Fix and I kept it because Wayne loved it. (All my pictures have Colt’s pool in them!)

What I Wore

Judy Belted Cross Front Dress-Tart (Stitch Fix)
Necklace-The Limited (recently purchased 40% off)
Nude heels-Kohl’s (purchased last year)
Gold earrings-I’ve had for a while.

I know you’re going to want to copy this outfit! It’s my What I Wore to the Louisville Zoo outfit. I needed to be comfortable and cool and this was perfect.

What I Wore

White shirt-Cynthia Rowley, Marshall’s
Khaki shorts-Target
Flip flops-Yellow Box

This is a summery, casual dress that I wore to the grocery store and ran errands in. The fabric is light and perfect for the 95 degree temperatures.

T-shirt dress-Target
Yellow tank top-Target
Silver flip flops-Kohl’s (purchased last year)

Even though it’s hot here, I’m loving the summer weather. Daylight is long and I’m soaking up all the summer fun I can. Seasons come and go and each one has its own beauty!

Have you purchased any summer outfits that you love? Where’d you find them?

And I can’t worship without giving thanks. It just isn’t possible. When we choose the pathway of worship and giving thanks, especially in the midst of difficult circumstances, there is a fragrance, a radiance, that issues forth out of our lives to bless the Lord and others.” -Nancy Leigh DeMoss

Favorite “PINS” Friday!

Happy day after 4th of July! I hope you had a good one. Thankfully we celebrated on Wednesday evening with a cookout because yesterday was a complete wipeout with all the rain. I’ve never seen such a rainy 4th of July!

Here are a few pictures from our cookout~~

Colt did a lot of laughing!

Favorite Pins Friday

I never capture great moments but this one I got! This is Colt sharing a moment with Pops (my hubby). Colt loves his Pops and they have lots of fun together.

Traci (my sister) and I are always snapping the pictures so we rarely get one together. I made my husband snap this one. We both wore chambray shirts and had them tied at the waist. We didn’t do this on purpose but great minds think alike!

Well, now to my Favorite “Pins”! They’re all summer fashion. I want to soak up every minute of summer. It flys by so quickly!

Sun Labs Self Tanning Lotion

If you’ve been reading my blog for anytime, you know I’m a fan of self tanning lotion. I realized along time ago that tanning beds and hours in the sun damage my skin.

There are hundreds of  good self tanning lotions and I haven’t used them all but I have used Sun Labs Self Tanner and I love it! (I was introduced to Sun Labs from Cara and she blogs at Maskcara.)

I use the medium tint and I think it would work well for most skin types. I apply every 3 to 4 days to keep a healthy glow. {Disclosure: Please know that if you make a purchase using a link on this page, I may earn a commission and I am very grateful for your support of this site. Thank you.}

Sun Lab Self Tanning Lotion

This is a picture of me without using the Sun Labs tanning lotion. I have olive skin and I tan easily if I’m in the sun.

This picture is taken after using the Sun Labs tanning lotion consistently. It definitely gives my legs some color.

Sun Labs Self Tanning Lotion

I typically apply it to my legs, arms, and décolletage area. If you want to see how to apply it all over, check out this post by Maskcara.

I use latex gloves when applying it because it will stain the palm of your hands. If you don’t have gloves, use baking soda to wash it off after applying.

Now that I don’t spend hours in the sun or go to tanning beds, I think too much sun looks unhealthy. I guess because I know how much damage it’s doing to my skin. I like just a touch of color.

Do you use self tanning lotions? What’s your favorite self tanning lotion?

Beauty For the Heart~~I don’t think I’ve shared this quote with you but sometimes I forget which ones I use. I saw this one on instagram and I thought this is how I want to live my life.

Refreshing & Easy Shoe Peg Corn Salad

Refreshing & Easy Shoe Peg Corn Salad
Good morning! I’m veering away from fashion & beauty today to share a side dish I tried this past weekend. It’s a Refreshing & Easy Shoe Peg Corn Salad and it’s soooo good! I had to share it with you!

We’re heading into Memorial Weekend which is the unofficial start of summer. Cookouts are a big part of summer and this is a great dish to add to your summer meals.

You know it’s easy or I wouldn’t be sharing it, so here’s all you need:

  • 2 cans shoe peg corn, drained, 11 oz. (I used Green Giant steam crisp shoe peg corn.)
  • 1 English cucumber ( You can use a regular cucumber but remove the seeds.)
  • Grape tomatoes sliced (I used around 15.)
  • Sweet onion, finely chopped (I used about 1/4 cup.)
  • Mayonaise (I added a little more than 1/4 cup.)
  • Salt & Pepper

Place drained corn, sliced cucumber, sliced grape tomatoes and sweet onion in a bowl. Add mayonaise, salt & peper. Chill in the refrigerator for a few minutes and then serve. If you don’t like pepper you don’t have to use it, but it does give it a great flavor!

That’s it! I’m definitely going to be fixing this over the holiday weekend!

Are you cooking out this weekend? What are your Memorial Weekend plans?

Beauty for the Heart~~I love summer! I have so many great summer memories of playing at the pool, picnics, staying outside with all the neighborhood kids until dark and Mom having to make us come inside. As summer begins I want to make memories with my family.

Let’s take time to enjoy the simple things like sunshine, flowers, birds, and warm breezes. Summer comes and goes so quickly and I want to soak up every minute of it!

I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. Psalm 104:33

Have a blessed day!

5 Tips To Healthy Summer Hair

Every summer the sun and heat take a toll on my hair. This year, I’m getting a jump start on my summer hair by being proactive. Today I’m sharing 5 Tips To Healthy Summer Hair.

5 Tips To Healthy Summer Hair

Tip #1-Wear a hat at the beach and pool. Thankfully there are lots of cute beach hats and these will protect your hair from the sun. If you color treat or highlight your hair this will protect your color. If you don’t want to wear a hat but still want to protect your hair, lather on some conditioner and pull your hair back in a ponytail or clip. This acts like a mask against the sun.

Tip #2-Use sulfate free shampoos and conditioners. Sulfate is a chemical added to shampoos and conditioners. It can be drying and I try to steer clear from it. I love using L’Oreal EverPure Volume Shampoo and Conditioner.

Tip #3-Lower the heat on your blower dryer. Although the higher heat will blow dry your hair faster, it also damages your hair. I recommend using an ionic blow dryer with the nozzle attached.

Tip #4-Get a trim or a dusting every 4-6 weeks. If you color treat, blow dry, flat iron, etc., your hair needs extra care. A light trim all over, sometimes called a dusting, will give your hair an instant lift and overall healthier look.

Tip#5-Deep condition your hair once a week. Conditioning is a must for me! There are lots of deep conditioners but an inexpensive and good one is Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask. It’s for over-processed and color treated hair. I use it before I go to bed. I shampoo my hair and then treat it with this deep conditioner. It makes my hair feel soft and healthy!

I love to be outside (especially by the pool!) during the summer but I don’t want my hair to pay the price. I’m using these simple tips to keep my hair looking great!

What do you use to help with your hair? Do you struggle in the summer with dry hair?

Beauty For the Heart~~I’m reading through the book of James. Chapter 3 verse 18 jumped out at me so I looked it up in several versions. I loved reading it from The Message.

Real wisdom, God’s wisdom, begins with a holy life and is characterized by getting along with others. It is gentle and reasonable, overflowing with mercy and blessings, not hot one day and cold the next, not two-faced. You can develop a healthy, robust community that lives right with God and enjoy its results only if you do the hard work of getting along with each other, treating each other with dignity and honor. James 3:17-18

I want to be that kind of woman. Holy, overflowing with mercy and blessings!

Have a blessed day!

Summer Pasta Salad

Good morning!
I hope you had a great holiday weekend. I say~~let summer begin! I’m ready!

We had a cookout at my Dad and stepmother’s house yesterday and I took

this delicious pasta salad.

It’s an easy and perfect side to all your cookouts during the summer months.

Summer Pasta Salad

  • 1 (16 ounce) package uncooked tri-color spiral pasta
  • 1 cucumber, peeled and thinly sliced
  • cherry tomatoes, sliced in half
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 small can sliced black olives
  • 1 bottle Italian-style salad dressing (I use half of the bottle)
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  1. Cook pasta in large pot of boiling water until al dente. Rinse under cold water, and drain.
  2. Mix black olives, cucumber, tomatoes, and onion together in large bowl.
  3. Combine cooled pasta and vegetables together in large bowl.
  4. Pour Italian dressing over mixture, add Parmesan cheese and mix well.
  5. Chill for one hour before serving.

This pasta salad was a hit with my whole family. You could also add green pepper, celery,

carrots or anything your family would like.

I love family get togethers and cookouts during the summer months. There’s nothing

better than spending time outside on a warm summer evening.

Last night was beautiful outside and I had fun taking some pictures of Colt Allen.

He doesn’t always cooperate because he’s wanting to get into everything these days

but I did get a few shots.

Colt Allen’s first Memorial Day……..

I soaked up some Colt Allen time. He gives the best kisses………

Some monkeys (my nephews) in a tree. If there’s a tree, they will climb!

Did you all have any cookouts or picnics over the Memorial Day weekend?

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a blessed day!
