26 Days Of Summer Fashion (Day 10)

Welcome to Day 10 of my 26 Days of Summer Fashion! Today I’m joining these fashionable Moms to share how to wear shorts this summer.

26 Days Of Summer Fashion (Day 10)
A few weeks ago, I wrote about Shorts for Women Over 40. I didn’t want to repeat that post so I decided to try a fashion trend this summer, The Romper.

The name alone sounds young doesn’t it? Do any of you remember the show Romper Room?? For some reason that’s what comes to my mind. I was a regular guest on the show in Lexington, Ky. It was my short lived television debut.

Anyway, the verdict is still out for me. I like it, and it’s comfortable but I’m still not sure about it.

26 Days Of Summer Fashion (Day 10)
I love the colors in this one, pink, navy and white. You can’t see it, but there’s also a tan stripe, the color of my sandals.

I do still love these sandals from Gap. They’re a cute summer sandal.

We’re having a cookout for Father’s Day and I thought about wearing this romper. We’ll see!

Beauty For the Heart~~“What you and I might rate as an absolute disaster, God may rate as a pimple-level problem that will pass. He views your life the way you view a movie after you’ve read the book.

When something bad happens, you feel the air sucked out of the theater. Everyone else gasps at the crisis on the screen. Not you. Why? You’ve read the book. You know how the good guy gets out of the tight spot.

God views your life with the same confidence. He’s not only read your story…he wrote it. ” -Max Lucado

He’s got this ladies!! Hang in there!

Have a blessed day!

  1. I was on Romper Room too!! In Orlando Florida….45 years ago. (wow, I am old) 🙁

Love the Romper…it is adorable, and seems to be a great length. So many of them are so short. Very, very cute!

  2. I will definitely NOT be wearing a romper (but it looks too cute on you)! I grew up in the 1950s watching Romper Room in Nashville, TN and one day Miss Nancy said hello to me through her magic mirror and I have an autographed picture in an old scrapbook that she sent me. Thanks for the memory of Romper Room!

  3. I’m pretty sure that my almost 13 y/o daughter would tell me to change if I tried to wear that. Do you feel exposed with the thin, loose fabric around your legs?

  4. You look so stinkin’ cute in anything you wear, including this. For me, though, it’s all about getting in and out of the bathroom without disrobing completely. 🙂

  5. There’s nothing wrong with that romper on you…it fits well and is interesting. I know, just like a jumpsuit, there’s always the issue with taking it all off to go to the bathroom! But you should wear it since you have it!! You can always throw a cardigan/vest over it!! jodie

  6. We were recently in Europe for a couple of weeks and saw rompers/jumpsuits on a lot of the young people. More than I’ve seen here in Mississippi. But I know it’s a trend that’s not for me. You are one of the few people can pull it off in their 40s.

  7. I think for me and my age (47) if I was going to wear a romper it would need to be a solid color and I’d dress it up with either a colored belt or jewelry cause the print along with the flowyness of the fabric looks like pj’s.

  8. l love your thought for today. My high school kids are in the middle of final exams and it seems like the most important thing in the entire world, especially for my grade 12!
I haven’t tried the romper and likely won’t. I feel the trend is a little young for 50. I wasn’t a fan of rompers/jumpers last time around – being tall with a high waist, the proportions are always wrong on me. I’m all about the cute dress, which gives a similar look.

  9. It looks great! I’ve considered trying it but the practical side of me worries about the hassle of going to the bathroom in one of those when one is out and about! How do you get around that?!

  10. I love the quote you shared today! You look amazing in the romper. Adding a tank and leaving part of the top part unbuttoned is a great idea. Rompers and jumpsuits are not for me as a 58 year old. Even in my younger years, I did not like having to get undressed when Mother Nature called. Have a blessed day!

  11. I remember Romper Room, but was more of a Sesame Street girl. Use to love wearing rompers! Now, my daughter loves them. Would wear again if i could find a cute, suitable one like yours, Cyndi. But I do consider the bathroom issue too! 🙂

    1. I say no to rompers but the print is nice and looks good on you. Generally I think younger women can wear them. As a 52 year old I opt out.

  12. I agree with the others – the romper is cute on YOU, probably not for me, with MY figure and at MY age (55)

  13. Lately I’ve been focusing more on researching and purchasing clothing that flatters my body shape. Because I’ve been reading so much about how the right clothing can help elongate and slim (keeping it conservative), I think the romper needs to go. You are in great shape and this romper makes a little pouch on you (which you don’t have) and the look reminds me of that PJ scene in Grease when the girls were jumping on the bed and singing.

There are so many other types of clothing that are light and summery which flatter.

    1. I agree with this. You have the cutest figure and you have zero tummy in your usual pictures, but in this picture I think the romper is creating the illusion of you having one. The blousing is not quite right. But that being said , this is why I dislike rompers they are hard to get a great look for the whole figure. This is the rare time that I would say something you are wearing is not completely flattering…you are a lovely lady–beautiful inside and out.

  14. Several of you commented about the bathroom issue. It’s not bad with a romper. The jumpsuit I styled a few months ago was a little harder but this outfit comes off easy and quick! 🙂

  15. I think the print on the romper is cute and you look great in it, but it would be a “no” for me. At almost 48, my romper days are over! I can’t help thinking there are so many cute and age-appropriate fashions out these days that I’d rather try and would be more flattering. Lately my rule is “if my 17 year old wears it, I shouldn’t”….don’t want to look like I’m trying to be a teenager again! This print in a cute sleeveless blouse, with shorts, or in a maxi dress or sundress would be great though!

  16. You look great in your romper! Rompers look awesome… on my leggy teen daughter. They are too limiting for me. They don’t mix and match well. And, well, I don’t romp much these days :-). Thanks for a great post!

  17. You look cute in the romper. I hate to mention my age, 59, but I don’t believe appropriate for anyone in their 50’s. I have the figure, it just seems a little too young.

    1. I just turned 58 and while I am slim enough, no, I would feel just silly in it. I’ll leave this to the under 50’s like Cyndi, she looks great in hers!

  18. Yes, I was a Romper Room watcher in the late 60’s! So cool that you were on the show.
I’m long waisted and “one-piece” anythings just do not fit well. You, on the other hand, could make a croaker sack look good! Enjoying the summer fashion!

  19. You have the figure and the look to rock this romper. I say wear it!! You look amazing in it!! The whole outfit should be a repeat on Father’s Day for your cookout.

  20. The Romper looks great on you, but for me it’s a NO. I did check out the blogs” moms styling shorts on the go”. You wear them Best!

  21. The romper is really cute and looks great on you, definitely not too short, I would definitely wear this. Have a great afternoon! 🙂

  22. I’m 43 & look younger than my age. I do share clothes with my 18 yr old daughter. We dress fairly classy & not “trashy”. I have a romper I love to wear with wedges. I think it’s all according to the individual, build, clothes, etc.

  23. Although this is a cute romper, I’ve just personally never been a fan. They never seem to fit properly – I’m short waisted and the crotch usually ends up dangling between my legs – that looks as funny as that sounds on paper :D. I do like the print/colors though, and even if I could wear them I probably wouldn’t wear them other than at home.

    1. and by the way, I check out the other bloggers – all I have to say is “Cyndi girl – you rock” and I’m glad I found your blog and not theirs. I find yours much more inspiring and your heart really shines through. Appreciate you!!!

  24. Definitely NOT wearing a romper. I don’t mean this offensively, but to me, they look like pajamas.
I think what has really put me against them is how many of them I’ve seen that are short short short short short (up to booty cheeks) and strapless. I’m tired of seeing half naked women! Stepping off soap box now… 🙂 🙂

I will say that yours is one of the cutest I’ve seen.

  25. I think they’re adorable and my daughter wears them but for me it’s the issue of getting out of it to go to the bathroom! 5 kids including a set of twins has made it imperative that I can go to the bathroom quickly! You look great though!

    1. I agree with Laurie. Not practical for a quick trip to the bathroom. I am 60 and wear a size 10. Things aren’t in the same place anymore. I think trendy things shiw that on me.

  26. It’s a cute romper and looks good on you but I still think the romper is best left for the under 40 crowd. Now, a jumpsuit, that’s another story!

  27. Your blog is for women over 40….and maybe ladies just a tad over 40 who are in great shape could wear this trend. But it really isn’t appropriate for those of us over 50. I think as we get older we need to embrace classics and strive to look classy, and that means ignoring a lot of trends. Besides, I wore rompers in the 60’s and 70’s and my motto is, if you wear it the first time around, DON’T wear it the second time around!

    1. Julie I love classics too! It is hard to say I won’t wear anything I wore in the past because so many things come back around. I never say never.
I wouldn’t be wearing flared jeans because I wore them in the 70’s and I’m sure some of my readers wore skinny jeans in the sixties and probably wear them today.
Thanks so much for stopping by!

  28. I think the romper looks cute on you, but I tried some and I just felt the look was too young for me as a 40 something woman.

    1. Kathy,

I think it’s all about finding the right one… some I’ve tried on before looked way too young too! Just keep shopping!

  29. I LOVE the romper, I have yet to get one because my belly is where I carry weight and the waist never fits right. Love the look on you!!

  30. You look adorable and age appropriate in that romper. I looked at it on the Loft site and I’d buy it based on how you looked in it, not the model.

  31. I actually like this on you! Maybe other outfits are more flattering, but I find many trends just that, unflattering. It doesn’t mean I won’t wear them. Are skinny jeans the most slimming? Heck no, but I still like them for certain things. Do ankle straps and gladiator sandals visualy cut our legs in half? Yes, but they look so cute so I wear them with certain things. This would be great for a cookout.
BTW, I think we need a visual of the Romper Room days!

    1. I would normally so no way to a romper, but this looks good on you. I do not think it would look good on many of us with bigger bellies, though! I loved Romper Room as a kid! I was just asking one of my younger friends if they remembered it the ther day. Isn’t the one where she looked in the mirror and saw people…”I see Andea, and I see Nathan…”? She never saw me, of course, with my name! And what about Romper Stompers that you walked on??? Do you remember those? Please post pics of you there!

      1. Thanks for that memory Larissa. I watched romper room all the time in the early 60’s but I had forgotten about the mirror!

  32. I love the romper on you! I think I will try one also, I thought maybe I was to old lol so I’m guessing it’s the type of romper you choose! Thanks for being brave-I’m going to try one also????????????

  33. You look terrific in that romper Cyndi. Oh, and yes I remember Roper Room! How lucky are you to have been able to be part of this show. I dreamed she would say my name….lol from my recollection it never happened.

  34. Hi- I think it looks super cute on you. I bought the same one last week at Loft and I just turned 46. Hopefully it looks as good on me when I wear it out.

  35. I love the romper on you. I think my legs are so heavy at the top and I have too much bottom to pull it off well. I would love the comfort though. I think it would be great for the BBQ on Father’s day. Have a great weekend.

  36. Cyndi, I love the romper on you! I almost wrote you when you blogged about the shorts to see what you thought about rompers 😉 it’s perfect!!! I have bought two so far this summer.

  37. I usually don’t have such a visceral response, but I am all – heck no! But that is for me, if you can rock it, go for it!

  38. I think it looks great on you and I do not think it makes you look like you have a tummy – quite the opposite, actually. Good grief.

I bought one last year from Target, but I gained a lot of weight over the winter so it doesn’t fit this year. Too bad; it was cool and comfy 🙂

  39. Cyndi, you look adorable in the romper! I had a great time visiting the sites of the other moms in their shorts, as well. What a lot of different body types, ideas, etc… Thank you for keeping us fashion-wise and working on our beauty on the inside, too! 🙂

  40. Ok, I am going to differ on majority opinion. Cyndi, you are gorgeous in anything you wear, but rompers are simply not meant for over the age of 10. I think a short, like a walking length, with a cute top would be awesome. But a ‘romper’ is not something I think any of us should seriously be considering.

  41. You look great, and I love the colors, but I just can’t get past my memories of pastel terry cloth rompers from the 80s. (shudders) I was on Romper Room in Tallahassee, FL for 2 weeks in 1973.

  42. Wow! I feel like your beauty for the heart was written just for me today! Thank you…and you look amazing in the romper!

  43. The romper looks cute on you but I still haven’t decided if I would wear one at my age (52). I have a little pooch of a tummy and afraid it would make it more visible and I have to go to the bathroom every hour on the hour. lol
I saw an article about airbrush makeup and how it is the new trend. Have you tried it yet? Also wanted to ask you what is the best tooth whitening system to purchase from ebay would be? I would like to whitening my teeth but hate the way it makes them so sensitive and can’t really afford the cost at a dentist for the whitening. Thanks for all of your encouragement and wonderful advice on beauty and fashion.

    1. I lightened my teeth 15 years ago with Nite White from the dentist. Occasionally I will use a little Nite White for just an hour for a touch up. I don’t get the sensitivity using the prodcut for just an hour. You can find Nite White on EBay. I have a custom set of trays, but I know people who have used the “mouldable” mouth guards just as effectively. A less expensive alternative would be Crest White Strips.

  44. Not sure about a romper for me personally. I think I would feel like a kid in one, I wore romper PJs when I was a little girl.

  45. Your Beauty for the Heart was so necessary for my family yesterday – and this whole week actually. Not big tragedies, but a whole bunch of teenage things all at once. I shared this with my son and although it didn’t take the hurts away it gave him another perspective. I’m praying for a better day as the past week has been pretty rough.

  46. Nope to the romper, I’m thinking. So many other things to choose from that are easier to wear. One has to completely undress to go to the bathroom!

  47. Well my goodness…lots of Romper haters out there…hahaha. I like to call it a Jumpsuit when selling it to my clients…feels more sophisticated, LOL…maybe thats why I am selling SO many! Honestly I think you look incredible in it! Nice coverage on top, longer length…perfectly appropriate for any age that is comfortable enough to wear it. I love the trend…don’t have a ton of them..as I have a REALLY long torso and have to find JUST the RIGHT fit…but you look incredible in yours:) Also loved that you paired it with flats which also gives it a relaxed vibe! Hope you have a lovely rest of the weekend.

  48. Ok, I see differing opinions here and I understand that some styles are “younger” but I’ve seen so many different styles of rompers that you can wear one as an older woman. Stay away from spaghetti straps, lace and super short ones. here it looks like you are wearing a matching top and bottom. At the end of the day it’s what YOU are comfortable in! I wore one for the first time too and I prefer to wear it with a longish sleeveless vest to cover up a bit, but still have a fun summer look.
