26 Days Of Summer Fashion (Day 4)

It’s Day 4 of my 26 Days of Summer fashion and I thought we would talk about work wear outfits.

First, can I show you what we are finally seeing today, the SUN! The temperatures are warming up and I’m excited!

26 Days Of Summer Fashion (Day 4)
Okay, back to what to wear to work. I work from home now but I’m a dental hygienist by profession and worked for over 20 years in the dental office.

My work clothes consisted of scrubs, ugh! I always wanted to work where I could dress up a little.

Many of you email me about work wear fashion. So here’s what I would do if I worked at a business casual office. I would find a style of pant that I liked and I would buy them in several colors such as white, black, gray etc.

Because I would be wearing them often, I would spend a little more money on my pants and get good quality pants that would last. Then I would accessorize with different tops, jewelry, shoes etc. I would also wear casual dresses.

If you like skirts, you could add them to your work wear wardrobe too. I don’t love skirts on me, I prefer dresses.

Since I work from home, I will be wearing this outfit to church. These white pants have a flair bottom and I like adding a heel with this style pant.

I did a front tuck and left the back out. I know everyone has an opinion on this but I like a front tuck.

I also love tops with a collar. You can’t find a lot of summer tops with collars but because I have noticeable collar bones, this is my preferred style.

What do you do for work wear? Where have you found pants that fit you well?

Here are some pant styles I found online that I like.

  1. Cute outfit……very work appropriate! I gotta go to “the Loft” and “the Limited” I am missing out!!!!!

  2. Hi Cyndi,

Thanks for doing this post. I am a consultant who works with urban schools across the country. I don’t have to dress in a suit, but do need to look nice. These hints are super helpful for me. Now, when I’m in the home office blogging or doing consultant conference calls, I may or may not have on pjs or yoga pants ;)!

  3. Thanks for the business casual attire today Cyndi. I work in an office setting, and I am with you on a collared top. I like to have a collar because if the office temperature is cool, the top looks great with a cardigan. I often wear a sleeveless collared shirt with a cardigan. It gives me a professional look and yet is comfortable. I love shopping at The Limited. They have a great selection of business appropriate clothes and if you wait for a sale, the prices are great. Thanks for sharing. You are always a blessing and I look forward to reading your post.

  4. nice printed blouse. I am still too messy to wear white pants. They very quickly look dingy and splotchy. On others they look so crisp and nice, though.
Just as I completed reading an article about the scourge of hepatitis C and a looming challenge with HIV in KY and other Appalachia area states, your email popped into my inbox. I am sure this is something your hsb gets to deal with in pastoral outreach. My prayers will extend to strengthen you all. I had not idea and am still stunned by this info,

  5. Thank you, as always, for sharing your fashion tips. This outfit would be perfect for my office. Beyond your fashion advice, I really appreciate your “Beauty for the Heart” quotes. I have found them so inspiring! Many thanks for the work you do.

  6. That looks exactly like something I would wear to work 🙂 Love the pants and shoes.

I wish I could wear scrubs to work – so easy!!! 🙂

  7. That is a wonderful outfit for the work place, church, lunch with a friend or even a date night with your spouse. I like everything about this look.

  8. You should model for clothing stores, you look so much better in that top than the model when I click the link. I would never even look twice at that top if I just saw it on the regular store model but it’s so cute on you.

    1. I was thinking the same thing! I will say I love the front tuck look it just doesn’t look right on me.

      1. I have to agree with Tracee, you rock the red top much better than the model! How fortunate we all are to have our own “model” giving us fashion tips plus spiritual encouragement each day!

  9. I totally agree with the comments. This is so like something I would wear to teach. And bonus, the Limited Handbag is on sale!

  10. I’m not big on red (unless it is a StL Cardinal shirt) but I LOVE that shirt..maybe if it was in a different color I’d love it even more although I would buy it in red.

  11. I have been retired for 3 years now from a very big company most people have heard of, The Coca-Cola Company. After it went business casual, I usually wore nice slacks with a top and sometimes a jacket, and coordinating accessories. I did not wear something that looked like I was running errands on the weekend. I’ve been told that the new policy is, wear what you’re comfortable in. I hate to think about what some people are wearing.
I really like the outfit Cyndi! Depending on how the top is made, I may tuck in the front to show off a jazzy belt.

  12. Love this post since I also need work appropriate outfits. I also favor pants and blouses with collars. Thanks so much for the suggestions on pants. BTW, the red/white blouses looks great on you, super fresh and perfect for summer!

  13. I long for the old days of having “noticeable collar bones”!!!! You look great in these white pants and shirt. The jury is still out for me about the front of the shirt tucked in and the back out, but it sure looks good on you!!!!

    1. I’m with you Bertie on the collarbones!! I use to be able to see mine..LOL. And I am still out on the half in half out tuck thing.

  14. That’s a great outfit. I could wear something like that to work. My office is business casual, I’m a receptionist in a dental office! So glad I don’t have to wear scrubs ????

  15. i have been following your blog for well over two years and I have never, not once, noticed your collarbones. 😉

  16. I work in a law firm that’s business casual and I do follow this “uniform” about 90% of the time. I only buy a few pair of cotton pants each season and I wash them. By the time the season is over, they are pretty faded but since I only purchase things when they’re on sale, I’m okay with that because I feel I’ve gotten my money’s worth. If I dryclean them, I still only get one use out of cotton pants and I end up spending more money. I broke my collarbone when I was 2 so I also have noticeable collar bones. I guess I’m used to it because I never considered what kind of blouse I wear based on my collarbones. Isn’t that funny? Great job, as always.

  17. I managed a medical practice for 22 years. I love the look of business casual that includes a nice heel. I did the same thing you suggested, separates with accessories. I also liked skirts. I do not like scrubs in a front office or billing. Having recently retired I still enjoy dressing nicely which is why I started following your blog!

  18. I love the outfit, but it is a little too casual for my office. I’m usually in suits or pants with coordinating jackets. I try to do the best I can to jazz up suits with shirts and accessories, but they often become the same old boring black or blue suit with a solid blouse!

  19. I’m a fan of the “front tuck” too. Love this outfit and it looks great on you! I live in southern CA now but grew up in PA. My co-workers often say I dress “more east coast” than the casual laid-back CA style but it’s me, what I grew up with and I believe you should dress for the job you want not the job you have. Love following your blog!

  20. I worked for years as a kindergarten/preschool aide. It was pretty much black or khaki pants, if I felt brave that day, a nice skirt. Sensible shoes, ha. White pants wouldn’t have looked nice for long! I remember coming home one day after running errands and realized I had walked around shopping with a big dusty handprint on my backside, lol. Also finding that glitter had fallen off things I was hanging and ended up in my bra. Now there’s an exciting surprise, ha! Ahh, there was never a dull moment and I loved every (almost) minute of it.

Anyway, I don’t see the “front tuck” here in the Midwest, I don’t think it has caught on yet, so I feel a little silly doing it just yet. I’ll just have to wait and see if that trend hits here!

    1. I’m from the Milwaukee area and I’ve seen the front tuck here! So, go for it. I’m 61 and I wear some shirts that way – depends what I’m wearing.

  21. You look fabulous in that outfit! I have a question for you. I need to wear flats due to my back, what pant style from the ones you picked would look good with flats?

  22. I was a dental hygienist for almost 20 years and switched to a regular office job 3 years ago. I finally get to wear nice clothes! I’m loving it! Your outfit is perfect for the office where I work. I wear very similar clothes to work. Thanks!!

  23. Great outfit. I am retired but would wear to church etc. Love white pants in summer. So versatile.

  24. Love this outfit, in fact I have almost the same top I just purchased, it is a silk floral in red and white and I love the white pants. Mine are linen so maybe a bit more casual but with the heel it dresses them up.

Thank you for all your fabulous outfit ideas and spiritual inspiration.

  25. Love this outfit. I used to have a similar one in my thinner days and always loved it.

Funny story about the front tuck…I teach 1st grade and one of my little gals (who has a teenaged sister) occasionally does a front tuck. The other week, however, she did it with one of those baby doll tops with three horizontal seams around the body, which obviously is not designed to be tucked in at all. It was pretty amusing. 🙂

  26. Love this! The Limited is my go to for pants. They fit better than any others I’ve tried. Occasionally I find some at talbots but that is hit or miss because they often come up too high on my waist. I’ve done the ” front tuck” for years and have gotten some strange looks but I like it ????. One thing I do that save me $ and my clothes – I don’t put my clothes in the dryer – now my t-shiits etc yes but not pants, skirts, blouses. They last longer, colors stay truer and they fit as I bought them. I NEVER dry clean. I hang them on hangers in my laundry room.

  27. Hi Cyndi.

You look amazing in that outfit! I, too, love the front tuck. My husband thinks I just forget to tuck my shirt in. 🙂

I love Express Editor pants. They are a good fit for me.

    Thanks for sharing.

  28. I love your “26 Days” posts that you do for each new season. Please don’t ever stop them! Look forward to seeing a new outfit each day 🙂

  29. Hi, Cyndi!
I have a ton of clothes from “The Limited” for work (I’m a teacher). You’re right – – when you catch a great sale, you can really get awesome deals. I am always more comfortable in pants rather than skirts and dresses, so I have more of those, but I will switch it up once and a while! You look great in this particular outfit!!!! 🙂

  30. Being a nurse, I wear scrub five days a week. I get excited over scrub tops with contrast piping and overwhelmed with trying to choose between the print top or solid. I don’t think I could make it in the real clothes world seven days a week. You keep me on track though for the two days I wear human clothes. I love the pants and the heels.

  31. Love this out fit! Can anyone where wide leg pant? I love the way it looks but tend to stay away from the wider leg for some reason. I do the front tuck on my out fits with a belt it hides my tummy and gives me a sort of figure. I have an inverted triangle shape so doing the front tuck is flattering on my body type. I have used many of your looks and so enjoy your blog!

    1. I am an inverted triangle. As well, can be a tough body shape till dress, but I like flares, the seem to add balance to the wider shoulders. I have found pants at loft and absolutely love white house black market.

  32. Hi Cyndi,
You are very stunning in those white pants. and I also love color for summer!! Is your daughter going to style along with you too? I was looking forward to her styles also, as I have a young daughter too.
Because of my work I wear jeans and a matching colored tee with my daughter who also works along side of me. We are house maids. As my hubby is getting worse with his diabetes and Menieres syndrome, I will be lessening my maid jobs and am in training to become the caregiver to my hubby …. so again my “work” apparel will be very casual… jeans and tee (unless I go to town or take him to his doc apps.) then I will dress up. Have a great weekend!! God bless you tremendously!

  33. Hi Cyndi,

I work at the school board but I have a bad back need some tips on slacks with tennis shoes. I wear flats every now and then. Cannot wear heals or my back pays for it later.

  34. Cyndi, I love wide leg pants and think they look good on any body type.
I think it’s funny that you try to cover up your collar bone. I just lost about 20 lbs and I love the fact that my collar bone is poking out again!
    You look great!

  35. Really cute outfit – would work well at my business casual law office -except for the white pants – not good with toner, pen ink, etc.. Good tips about buying a pant you like in every color. I sort of try to do that. Will check the Limited for good pants options. My weight has been fluctuating and that makes pants a challenge.
