5 Brands of Jeans and How They Look Front and Back

Happy hump day, friends! Well, yesterday I shared two early summer looks, and I’m starting this post with a sweater. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I’m not going to start posting winter fashion, but yesterday we had snow flurries all day, and I wore this sweater, jeans, and Reebok sneakers.

I did some Instastories, and I posted a video in my Facebook group, and I got lots of questions about my outfit,  so I’m sharing it here (mainly they were asking about my jewelry).

Now let’s talk about jeans! I typically wear a skinny jean. They may or may not be the most flattering on my pear shape, but I like that I can wear them with boots in the winter and sandals in the summer.

If you’re a pear shape like me, you have small shoulders with small to medium-sized breasts, your hips are the widest part of your body, and this is where you carry most of your weight.

I have been adding more straight leg crop jeans to my wardrobe, and I will probably lean towards that style this summer.

Today I’m sharing 5 brands of jeans and how they look from the front and the back. Let’s start with my LEAST favorite pair.

A few weeks ago, I shared these Scoop jeans with you and said I would wear them with a longer top because I didn’t like the way they looked from the back.

They’re also a lighter jean, and lighter jeans typically make you look bigger than a dark jean. These are a high waist jean with a frayed hem. They are priced under $25.

The back of the jeans have small pockets, and I’m not a fan of the way it looks. The jeans are okay, but if you are trying to slim your rear areas, these are not the best jeans.

Next up are these American Eagle jeans. These jeans are inexpensive and one of my favorite pairs of jeans.

They have large pockets, and they are a darker color.

Next up are these Straight Crop Levi Jeans from JCPenney. They are under $40 and will be great for spring and summer.

These are a good size pocket.

Levi Jeans (I’m wearing a size 28)

I like Kut from the Kloth jeans; they are reasonably priced. These are high waisted with some distressing.

(Sorry they have black on the knees, I think I brushed up against my car, and it needs to be washed. We did another drive-by parade yesterday, and I was putting balloons on my car. )

The pocket-size is good and not too small.

Lastly, I’m styling my Ag Jeans. These are the Farrah High Waist Jeans, and I’ve had them for at least four years. They are my favorite, but they are also the most expensive. This is a very similar pair.

I know I’m going to get asked why I like these jeans the best, and I love the feel and the way they don’t stretch.

Ag Jeans (similar HERE, I’m wearing a size 28)

These are my newest Ag jeans, and I love them too. I shared them in this post. Because I’m  pear shape and I wear skinny jeans, I typically do a front tuck and leave the back hanging. This is a good solution to help with my body type and wearing skinny jeans.

Guide to Jeans for Your Body Type: (obviously I don’t follow these rules)

Pear Shape Body- Jeans with tapered legs and bootcut styles that lengthen the look of the legs. Denim in a dark-wash color. Darker shades on your lower half are an excellent way to slim the legs and make them appear longer, especially when worn with pointy heels—Flare legs, which help to balance the body.

Apple Shape Body- A mid-rise jean (not too low or high waist). Apple-shapes tend to be slimmer throughout the leg, which means you look especially amazing in a pair of skinny jeans. Try them at an ankle-length, hitting right above the ankle bone. Showing some skin between your ankle and shoe will give the illusion of mile-long legs.

Hourglass Shape Body- Jeans with wider legs and a slight flare. Just make sure that the flares don’t exceed the width of your shoulders. Low-rise jeans in a bootcut style. Straight-leg jeans will look just as great and still show off your curves. Black or very dark denim.

Banana Shape Body- Jeans that fit right above the hips or low on your waist. These will help to create some shape in this area.

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to stop by my blog. I’m also on FacebookPinterest, and Instagram.

Beauty For the Heart~~ I love the below quote because I see so many people commenting, especially on Facebook and arguing their belief about something.

“I’m not suggesting that you have to agree with everything everyone says. I’m simply saying that you’re not obligated to correct them! No one has appointed you Earth’s guardian of truth and accuracy.” -Robert Morris

We are living online more than ever, and there are always people who think they have to correct everyone. As believers, we want to uplift and encourage. We don’t always have to be right or make someone believe the way we believe.

If you feel like you need to say something, make sure it’s filled with grace. Or better yet, don’t say anything.

Have a blessed day!

  1. Have you ever tried Liverpool jeans? I’ve received a few pairs in my Stitch Fix box and I love how they fit my pear shape.

  2. I love this quote and I totally agree!! Our speech should be encouraging. Even if we don’t agree, we can still show love and grace.

  3. Bravo for you! I typically don’t like the backside of my jeans showing either. But after following you for years, I always check out the backside in the dressing room. The ones that look the best, get to come home with me.
Blessings on you today and everyday.

  4. Great post! Thanks for being vulnerable enough to show even the jeans you didn’t care for. You always do such a good job of dressing for your body type and you look so good in your outfits!

I understand the meaning of your BFTH, but conversely, sometimes we need to be brave enough to disagree and say what we believe and why, not in an argumentative way, but still say it. There are probably those who need to disagree less and those who need to disagree more, depending on their personality. Ha! I guess I just disagreed with it, only kind of though. ; )

  5. Hey Cyndi..thanks for the jeans reviews!
I see the difference and while I like a jean with some stretch I can see why you like the AG jeans the best they look like a second skin and accentuate your best features! I recently purchased some crop Levi’s for summer, I haven’t had a pair of Levi’s for years and I’m in love with these, they are now my go to. But I need a good pair of ankle jeans that keep their shape..you’ve given me a good starting point..thanks again!

  6. Thank you Cyndi. It was helpful to me in figuring out which style works best for my shape. Another feature I noticed was the width of the waistband and how it sits on the waist. Great post!

  7. Love this post and thanks for the variety of styles and price points. I should really do a try on session with all the jeans in my closet but I’m two pounds heavier than I was a month ago since my gyms been closed so I think I’ll wait on doing it. Lol. Even though I’m walking everyday and using a workout video it’s just not the same because I’m a short petite lady so 2 lbs is a lot for me and makes a big difference 😔

  8. Great post! I think I am a pear shape too. Good to know about the pockets. They all look good on you. I think my favorites are The Kut from the Kloth and the American Eagle.

I love the quote! Had to save that one!

  9. A big thank you for this post and showing both the front and rear views!! As much as we might want to avoid the rear view its reality, We are pretty much the same build so this was very informative for me with finding the best jeans, and now that we have Nordstrom.ca I am hoping to be able to try a few of the brands you’ve mentioned. I like to cover the rear view as well, but I did flatten that area when recently losing weight the past few years. I was grateful that’s where some of it went. I am still a pear shape though, but have never really gravitated towards bootcut or flare. I am 5’3 and I don’t wish to wear heels all day either nor is that my preferred style of show with jeans anyway. I think I will learn to do the front tuck more. Great BFTH!
    Enjoy your day
    Blessings Karen

  10. This is really a very practical and helpful post, Cyndi! Your analyses were spot on, and it was so helpful to see your frontside and backside. Being an apple shape, I will be a little more careful of the backside!
By nature, I am a peacemaker, so I find dissension, esp. from an angry or more demanding heart is hard to hear. Andy Stanley said in Jan. that the “other side will not understand us, and we won’t understand them.” This has helped me so much to let go of and diffuse the words which bother me in a way that can yet honor the Lord. Much love!!!

  11. Thank you for sharing about the jeans!!! I appreciate your honesty! I hate to pay a lot of clothes, however if the “Jeans” fit buy them all. Right? I’m pear shaped and struggle with the skinny jean fashion!!! Thank you for your inspiration!

  12. Great post Cyndi! I am a pear shape too and found the straight cut Levis fit great – I just picked up a black pair right before the quarantine. In Canada, I also found Bootlegger has great jeans for pear shaped gals. Thanks for the tip about the front tuck and out at the back – I am going to try that! Also about the pocket size – I know Jo-Lynne tells us about that all the time, but I have to admit I never think about that.

  13. the next to the last example had the pockets closest to being parallel with the center back seam and very clearly demonstrated that is most desirable. yea for my sewing instructor for passing on that info. have not figured out how to move them on ready made without having the shadows left behind from where they were originally.

what a helpful demonstration this blog was. NORE please. thank you thank you. Picture worth a thousand woards !!!!!!

  14. My favorite jeans are American Eagle because they keep their shape in the seat.
Can you recommend other jeans that always keep their shape in the seat.

Thank you for the great information.

  15. I like this post! So helpful! It’s great to actually see how the jeans look from both sides. I like the last two best on you (not that you’re asking! Ha ha) I too am Pear shaped but more so than you. Do you have trouble with gaping at the waist? I do horribly. I have a really hard time finding skinny jeans that fit my hips and thighs especially but then gap at the waist. I’ve had better luck with high waisted jeans.
    Thanks so much for sharing!

    1. Hi Gina I have that same problem. Once and awhile I’ll find a style that fits in the waist which is like finding a pot of gold but most times I have the waist altered. Too bad they can’t design jeans to fit this area unless there is and I just haven’t found them yet🤷‍♀️

    2. Gina…I love Democracy jeans. They have jeans that have hidden wide, soft elastic inside the waistband. It really helps with our pear shape. I don’t have to wear belts with most pairs I have. I get the style that is just below the waist. They are my most flattering jean. I usually wear a size 8. I have been wearing a 10 in most other brands but they are a little large but fit my hips. That is another reason I love my Democracy which I do have in 8’s and one or two 10’s for times I might want a little looser fit.

    3. I have found that Good American Good Legs and Good Waist are the perfect mix of fit and no gap at the waist, plus they have some stretch and great shape retention through multiple days of wearing.

  16. Thank you for the detail of this post. You explain fashion in a way that makes sense to anyone! But most of all thank you for today’s BFTH. I say AMEN to that!! Love you.

  17. Thank you for posting this. The Beauty from the Heart is perfect! I had to put a collage together of all of your looks side-by-side. I like the 2nd pair (American Eagle) best from the back view and the 3rd pair (Levis) best from the front view (probably because there is less feathering than on the others). You rock all of them!

  18. Thanks Cindy for beauty from the heart today a great reminder especially with online communication. I’m reading the book Understandable, which really has been a great read for me to support what you’re saying it’s not our job to Earths guardian.
Very helpful post today on selecting Jeanne types based on your body shape. I can see why you like the AG brand.
    Blessings to you stay safe

  19. Hi Cyndi,

First time commenting. I have been following you for about a year and love all your posts. I have an apple shape and find it challenging to find clothes to fit right. I also have big feet! So I tend to feel more comfortable with straight cut jeans. I usually have luck with Levy’s and Lucky Jeans. I am also short waisted so I don’t tuck in my shirts. Still, I have learn a lot about fashion from your posts and appreciate your work. Thank you.

  20. Enjoyed the show of Jean’s & back pockets. I dont know my shape; how do you figure that out? What is banana shape? Keep up the good work!!

  21. The Kut brand looks the best on you, front and back, hands down. Skinny jeans are a tricky pair to wear. Making our bums look bigger and our legs look slimmer, so we cover our bums with longer tops. I can see why straight jeans are making a big comeback. straight jeans create more of a straight line from bum to ankles, so no need to hide the bum:) High waisted jeans are a woman’s best friend, good bye to low waisted muffin top creating jeans! Thank you for sharing this post:) Would love to see you post on straight jeans, then the latest wide leg fashion. Have a great week:)

  22. What a good read, so much good content. It is nice to see a bunch a rear views it really helped to get my head wrapped around what I am looking for in jeans.

  23. Hi Cindi!
So glad you shared this today. I thought is was very helpful to see the difference as you often style several different brands and styles of jeans. We could truly see the difference! I do like the AG jeans on you but have not seen the value until today. I have a similar shape and will definitely consider them for purchase.
Also thank you so much for the topics you have been sharing. Many of us are currently out of work and can not afford a lot of extra shopping right now. You give us something to look forward to for the future but also topics (like your bangs video) that we can enjoy now. I look forward every day to your post! Thank you so much for what you do and for helping us get through this trying time! God bless!

  24. Great post! Really enjoyed seeing the different styles of jeans. I try very hard to find clothes that compliment my figure. The shape descriptions you provided are helpful. Lastly, I loved the quote you included from Robert Morris. Social Media is on fire these days! Rather than get caught up in the firestorm, I take a walk and or a break from online social sites! Have a great day Cyndi!

  25. Only available from Walmart.Com, the best jeans ever are the Sofia High Rise jeans by Sofia Vergara and are $20.99! I ordered two and they were shipped promptly at no charge. I read more than 170 reviews and all raved about them from teens to seniors, petites to plus sized. They are actually a medium rise, skinny jean and have stretch. Order down one size. My favorite is the med wash. I am 5′, 122 lb and the size 4 is perfect. I am very short waisted with long legs. I adore them. Cyndi reviewed them recently. Thrilled with them!

  26. I really enjoyed your post on different brands of jeans. I really like Kut from the Kloth jeans, and just ordered the pair you’re wearing.
Especially enjoyed BFTH today! Absolutely spot on. My mother used to say, “ If you can’t say something nice, just don’t say anything at all. “

  27. I know there is rules for jeans but I have to say over the years I’ve been following you, I’ve always thought you looked great in skinny jeans. But, I’ve also always said you look good in everything you put on. Truly. You can wear all style pants and look good. I wish stores were open because I want new jeans soooo bad and it’s just too hard for me to order without trying them on. I hate returning so don’t want to order online. I wish they would quit doing whiskering. I’ve wanted to try AG jeans as never have but they always have whispering or distressing from what I can tell. I do like them the best on you. I like article of society jeans too. I’ve had a pair for years and years. I’d hate to say how long and they don’t stretch out and are still dark dyed. Well worth it. But they are skinny with a lower waist. I’d like to try mid or high rise soon. Hard to give up my skinny. Can you tell us how you tell what body shape we are?. What is banana shape? Thanks for your post. 🙂

    1. I admire you, enjoy your instagram stories and faith. With this carina virus, I’ve been in real need of retail therapy, lol I’ve done my part to shop (on line) at a couple of local retail merchants, as I miss them so much. Also waiting patiently for warmer weather to wear what I’ve purchased! I’ve just purchased jeans as well from my favourite retailer but in a size up, as the isolation as caused me to be depressed and bake and eat. I too go for a skinny jean. I’ve purchased both mid waist and high waist in a darker wash and in white, for summer. Not sure of my shape, both busty (DD38)and hips and fuller in mid right now, (waist 42” 😳)so not really hour glass, I’m tall, 5’9” and weight is adding as I’m menopausal, I think, just 48 yrs.

  28. So for me for some reason AG jeans do not fit me well. I have tried several of there jeans..🙁 but I do find Lucky Brand fits me great!!🙂 I really like how you showed front and back and explained the difference shapes!
Love beauty from the heart post, so needed for us to remember in this time.

  29. I love all the jeans you showed and there’s like a million more to pick from in the stores, but honey, the photos of you standing backwards show you’re an hourglass figure, perfectly. Your shoulders are the same width as your hips with slimmer waist. This is the hourglass figure. No matter the boob size. Which explains why you look awesome in everything you wear. An hourglass figure if perfect in all clothing. Love you and thanks for the wonderful beauty for the heart. ❤️
