5 Ways To Make Your Marriage Stronger

Since we are gearing up for Valentine’s Day, I’m sharing 5 Ways to Make Your Marriage Stronger. My husband and I have worked HARD to have a great marriage.

We’ve had ups and downs, we get mad, we disagree, but when it’s all said and done, we are passionate about each other, period.

While I’m not an expert on marriage, after 25 years of marriage, I have found some ways to keep a marriage strong.

5 Ways to Make Your Marriage Stronger

Here are 5 Ways To Make Your Marriage Stronger:

1. Pray together. Sounds crazy but spending time praying out loud together is very special and intimate. We pray for each other. No one knows me better than Wayne and I love it when he prayers over me and for my specific concerns. If you haven’t done this before, try it, even if it feels a little uncomfortable at first.

2. Go on Dates. I know this has been said a thousand times but it’s so true. We need to date after we’re married. It’s hard when your children are young but the time invested is worth it. Even after your children are grown like ours, it’s still important to go on dates. Wayne and I love it now more than ever because we don’t have to pay for a babysitter.

3. Read the Bible Together. If you want to spice up your marriage with a book, read the Bible, specifically the Song of Solomon. Trust me on this one.

4. Laugh Together. I’m telling you this has been a life saver for us. We laugh in our marriage, A LOT! If you were to ask Wayne what he loves the most about me, my belly laughing would be at the top of his list.

5. Play Together. Wayne and I are very different. We don’t have the same hobbies but we try to find things we do like to do together. We both love water, the ocean, the lake etc. We love to eat out together and we love to go see a movie.

It’s important to show interest in each other’s hobbies. I have sat in a deer stand with my husband and he goes shopping with me all the time. Act like kids again and have fun!

Remember our marriages are to mimic our relationship with our heavenly father. Guard your marriage and honor Christ above all!

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Proverbs 4:23

These are simple things but such make a big difference!

  7. Wonderful post and thanks for sharing the advice. These things are so important especially when marriage seems to be something people give up on quicker these days when the going gets tough. Thanks for being a great example of a good marriage and of putting God first.

  8. Thank you for these points, I agree after 19 years of marriage that you really do need to work at it but it’s worth it.
Just back from our teaching meeting at church tonight and we were doing 1st Corinthians 7……..divorce!!

  9. Thank you for the five suggestions Cyndi! We definitely have to work at it! Laughing together is so healthy.

    God bless!

  10. Would you still try these suggestions..or at least some of them even if a divorce is happening?

    I refuse to give up.

    1. I am praying for you and your marriage, Sweet Hopeful! Yes, I would try these- especially praying for your husband (out loud if he will allow you to). I have personally seen God restore marriages that seemed like there was no hope. Show grace and mercy, and watch out for bitterness like we are advised in the Word. Remember, God ALWAYS has a future for you. He loves you dearly. <3

  11. Happy Valentine’s Day. After 37 years of marriage, we still work at our marriage and what great advice. Thank you

    1. Hello, we too are happily married after 37 years. Agree with Cyndi’s list…particularly praying together & reading Gods Word together.
Our marriage continues to be fun fulfilling & we pray God honouring. Let’s keep at it!

  12. Thanks for the beautiful list. Me and my husband are still in love after 20 years. We done some of list before. But after 20 years we still needing a list like yours to help us for our future together. Thanks again. We will be using it. You and Wayne are the best.

  14. Those are all very wonderful things to do for your marriage! Thanks for sharing your life with us & your secrets & foibles! You two are SO adorable together! Happy Valentine’s Day, Cyndi!

  15. When my boys were little, we were sitting at the dinner table and they asked me why I married Dad? My answer was because he makes me laugh. After 18 years of marriage, that hasn’t changed. These are great suggestions, and I agree that you always have to work on your marriage to make it work.
Thanks for the reminders Cyndi. Hope you and Wayne have a great Valentine’s Day

  16. I love coming across blogs with any kind of advice about how to make a marriage stronger. I think in the world we live in today, trying to make a marriage last is hard work. I believe that if you wait until your marriage is in crisis to try and improve it, you may be fighting a losing battle. I found a book called “The Six Passions of the Red-Hot Lover” by Wendy Brown and I instantly sought out her site, http://whylovesucceeds.com/; it’s so organic with tons of relationship insight. I’ve already recommended checking it out to all my friends. Thanks for the wonderful post and thoughts!

    1. Than you everyone for sharing regarding marriage. My husband and I been married for a year and 6 months, been separated for four months. We were on the edge of divorce. But to God be the Glory we are back together and working at our marriage. It has been a challenge but not giving up. I love to hear stories on how to work at your marriage or any kind of advice Im willing to do Gods will not mine. Again thanks everyone for sharing.

  17. I felt called to start praying at night with my husband before we go to sleep. It was a little awkward at first even though we pray before meals and are both Christians. But after only a few days, he would remind ME as we went to bed and now it is something we look forward to. We are both praying for the same things at this time and we love seeing God work or feel the oneness in how God is leading us. Thank you for sharing these ways to make our marriage stronger. We have to work hard every day because the devil is just lurking in the corner looking for a small way to ease his ugly head into our relationships. We can’t let that happen. And all of these things keep us stronger and the old devil weaker!

  18. I just love to see your fashion on pinterest and now that I read 5 ways to make your marriage stronger. It makes me want to do more things with my husband and for us to have a stronger loving marriage. Thank you

  19. We started reading “Jesus Calling” every morning during our 20 minute coffee time. It helps me so much.
Before I start reading I say Ring, ring!
