How Do We Love?

Happy Sunday friends! I have shared a similar post with you before but I think we need reminding of John 13:35, “For when you demonstrate the same love I have for you by loving one another, everyone will know that you’re my true followers.”

God measures our lives by how we love and it’s easy to love people who think like us and act like us. It’s easy to love people who love us.

What about the people who are different than us, the people who are not kind to us, the people who have hurt us?

True love is demonstrated when we show love to those who haven’t acted so lovely. “We love because he first loved us.” 1 John 4:19 NIV

In the book Crazy Love by Francis Chan, he wrote, God’s definition of what matters is pretty straightforward. He measures our lives by how we love.

This week make an effort to show more love…to a prodigal child…to an estranged relative….to someone who has treated you unkind.

Let’s strive to love like Jesus and leave a legacy of only Jesus!

Have a blessed day!

  1. Good Lord’s Day Cyndi. Thank you for sharing this. Yes, we all need reminded, don’t we? We’re in a situation where our adult daughter and her 18 month old son, my first grandchild, are living with us. She’s a recovering drug addict with a felony. She’s had multiple second chances, several near death experiences related to her behavior and choices, stolen from us several times, etc. Everyone says kick her out. I refuse to do that for the safety and well being of my grandson. Daily, we must struggle to enforce household rules and guidelines. We’re having to use tough love a lot. It’s a serious battle we’re going through in our home. I’m not proud of the times my anger/ frustration/ desperation have made their way out of my mouth. We’ve not been to church in months because of dealing with everything. My husband and I are extremely tired and worn and need any opportunity we get for rest, quiet and peace. Jesus IS carrying us through I know.

    1. Cyndi, Also I wanted to say that little things like reading your blog help me to get my mind off things and eventhough just for moment, every bit helps.

      1. Teresa, sending prayers of God’s love, grace, and strength to you. You have a beautiful, loving soul. I pray that, with that love, your daughter will turn the corner and start to make better choices for herself and your grandson.

    2. Teresa, prayers for you and your family. I pray that God find a way into your daughters heart and heal her brokenness. We went through similar situation with our son. Praise God he and his wife are now 2 years clean and sober. I pray things turn around for your family soon. I certainly understand the exhaustion. Celebrate Recovery Church helped me cope when I was at a low point.

  2. Teresa I am so sorry about all your troubles. Just pray & trust that God will lead you & your family through this terrible time. Love that little one and your daughter!!
Cindy thank you for an uplifting message as always. God bless.

  3. Boy, I felt like todays post was written for me. I belong to my local Woman’s Club, I just spent a ridiculous amount of time working on our ticket book for our big fundraiser. There is a woman in the club that is very negative and doesn’t have a nice thing to say. Needless to say I shed many tears after the meeting. I’m going to try my hardest to be extra nice to her, but it is not going to be easy.

    1. Bobbi, I can only imagine. I work with a difficult gal and for 5 years I didn’t know how to like her much less love her as Jesus would. I started asking God to show me how he sees her. It has changed my perspective, It has been a long road but I finally feel like I can start to love her.

  4. Wow!! I was struggling with this last night. I listened to Dr.Charles Stanley on it too.
I’m sure God is smiling bc you hit on this issue.
    Great scripture. ..

  5. Thank you for sharing this today. This can be
a test for me many times throughout my
week. It is so hard to be kind when you’re
stepped on but I pray to keep my thoughts
in the right place and be kind instead.
Have a blessed evening and upcoming week!!!!
