I Need His Light

Happy Sunday! I hope you had a good weekend and remembered to spring forward last night. I love this time of the year when we have more light and less darkness in the evening.

I was thinking about how much more I get done when it stays lighter longer and how much I love a sunny day. We know that natural light helps our bodies produce Vitamin D, which improves our sleep patterns, allows us to focus, enables us to get more done, and even makes us happier. We need light!

As I was thinking about how much I love light, I was reminded that scripture says Jesus is light, and I need His light more than anything.

Here are some scriptures about light:

  • Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
  • The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5
  • Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105
  • But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 1John 1:7
  • In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:16
  • This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 1John 1:5

Over and over, we see that Jesus is light, and if we want to be like Him, we need to be light too!

What does that look like in our day-to-day life? How do we shine bright?

We love people.

We don’t just look out for our own interests but also for the interests of others.

We extend grace.

We are filled with the fruit of the spirit….love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

The only way we are going to look like Jesus is to spend time with him. If we’re going to be a light in our world, we need to be close to the true source…Jesus.

Let’s shine brightly, so all can see Jesus!

  1. Happy Sunday!
As I prepare to head to church this morning, I am enjoying the scriptures you posted. I was inspired by a sunrise last month and searched for a song to go with how I felt and found “Nobody Loves Me Like You Do” performed by Chris Tomlin. My husband and I lead a worship team and we will be doing that song this very morning. Thank you for the song you posted as I might look into learning it as well. Thank you also for being a light that reflects THE Light. I look forward to your posts very much.

  2. Oh yes, Happy Sunday and thank you for sharing your heart through your talent, given to you by HIM! Enjoy this beautiful Day with your Family because of HIM~.~

  3. Thank you Cyndi for sharing your “Light” post this morning. I needed to be His Light also and share the song with someone. His timing is always perfect. Have a wonderful day! 🙂

  4. Thank you for the beautiful reminder! I’ve followed you for style inspiration on Pinterest for awhile now but glad I found you here. Pointing others to Jesus is the most important thing we can do and I’m glad you have a platform to do that. I’m a writer and women’s ministry leader in my own church and typically post encouragement on social media, although right now I’m on a break. God bless you!

  5. Thanks for sharing. The picture you posted is just beautiful. I just wanted to hop right in it. It’s cold and drizzly here too.

  6. Amen Cyndi…..
Love your devotion and beautiful picture. Isn’t His Light so beautiful and in so many places we see footprints of Him. Hope you have a blessed Sunday with family and make memories that will last a lifetime. It is really wet and many floods here in CA.

Thank you for this great devotion today! I wholeheartedly agree with your words and love and appreciate the wisdom and encouragement you share from the Word. Blessings to you!

  9. Not a fan of time changes.. I wish they would just pick one and stick with it! Even though I don’t like to loose an hour of sleep I will love it being light now until 7:30 pm.. nicer days are coming 🙌🏻🙌🏻

  10. Beautifully said. There are so many moments of Jesus and the light everyday. We must open our eyes, mind and heart to see them. Not only see them but feel them and live them. God bless you and yours.

  11. Very beautiful post and picture. I too love the light. I’m studying the book of John. So much contrast between light and spiritual darkness. Jesus is the light of the world.

  12. Cyndi, thank you for sharing with us this morning! May God bless you and yours with blessing on top of blessing!♥️🙏

  13. What a Beautiful Sunrise!! That’s the first thing I do in the morning is open my blinds/curtains to let light in.
