Questions & Answers-January 2023

Hi there! Today I’m sharing some questions and answers. I get a lot of the same questions, so it’s nice to answer them all in one place, and I can refer back to them when I need to.

1. What do you do for your out-of-the-house workout, and how often? And do you do your hair and makeup before you head out to work out?

I am a VIP member of the Faster Way to Fat Loss Program, and I still use some of their exercises and recipes. I felt like I was not pushing myself hard enough, so I got a trainer. I work with her three days a week, and we focus on strength training.

She has me working my whole body and switching out different exercises. I work out in the morning, and I typically go ahead and get ready for the day before I go. With strength training, I don’t sweat a lot, so it works with my schedule to get ready, and then I can come home and do try-ons or whatever else I need to do with my blog.

If you know me in real life, this will not surprise you at all. Ask my family and friends; I have always been the person who gets up and gets ready for the day. I rarely go a day without putting on my makeup and getting dressed. I’ve accepted that it’s in my DNA!

2. I know you work out; do you run too?? Also, could you list what foods you eat on most days?

I don’t run. I think it would be hard on my knees at this age, and I try to protect them, so I don’t get injured. HIIT, CrossFit, and long-distance running are good for your body in moderation; if you don’t overdo them.

I have been told that they can cause your inflammation levels to spike. HIIT or heavy strength-training workouts like CrossFit cause the most inflammation and tiny micro-tears in your muscles. I don’t need that!

While I love HIIT, I don’t want to overdo it, and I’m leaning toward more strength training these days.

I have mentioned before that I try to get 100 grams of protein daily. I eat tuna and drink protein shakes, and we usually eat meat and vegetables for dinner. I don’t overthink it, but I try to ensure I’m getting protein. I don’t eat a lot of bread or potatoes, and I try not to eat a lot of sugar. Sweets are my weakness.

3. I was wondering what vitamins you take and if you’re still using Modere.

I take several supplements. I take a good multivitamin, Vitamin K2 with D3, a Prebiotic and Probiotic Blend for Balanced Gut Health, and Super Greens. I have used Modere for several years but was recently introduced to a new one. It’s supposed to be a cleaner version of collagen. I’ve only recently started using it, so I can’t say what I think yet, but I’ll let you know after I use it for a while.

(It’s always best to check with your doctor before starting any supplements.)

4. Have you had any procedures? You look so young. I’m thinking of starting to incorporate facials & others into my routine. Some procedures scare me, and I wonder if they are worth the money. Would you please address this in your Question & Answers, if not too intrusive?

Thank you, and yes, I have had some procedures (no surgeries). And yes, they all make me a little nervous because I’m afraid they will eventually say they’re not safe.

My goal is to always look healthy. So my passion is a healthy lifestyle, eating clean food, and exercising. I believe that what goes in our body affects how we look and feel outside.

I go to Prive Med Spa here in Lexington, and they do a fantastic job of taking care of my skin. I have a monthly chemical peel, and it varies as to what type of peel they do depending on what my skin needs.

I have had Microneedling, and I think it’s great too.

I also get Dysport every three to four months. I have had Sculptra, which incorporates into the tissues and stimulates your body’s natural production of collagen in your face. Again, my goal is to soften and look natural. If you walk into a place and everyone has huge lips and no facial expressions, run!

5. I am looking for a tinted moisturizer to use each day for my arms, legs, and face. Do you have any suggestions?

I like TAN-LUXE the Butter.

6. Are you still doing your Beauty for the Heart blog/Instagram? I haven’t seen many posts.

I am praying over how to use the Beauty for the Heart blog/Instagram. Yes, that will always be a part of my overall business, but my job takes a lot of time, and I share devotions on I want to do more which is why I created the Beauty for the Heart blog and Instagram, but I struggle trying to do it all.

I would love a clothing line that shares the Beauty for the Heart message with t-shirts, sweatshirts, etc., so I hope to do that in the future.

Sharing Jesus is who I am, whether online or in real life. That won’t change!

7. I would appreciate advice on having a closer relationship with Christ. I want to be excited about reading my Bible or praying, but it is more of a chore.

I get it, and I’m not always ecstatic when reading my Bible, but I know that the more I read and the more I pray, it’s preparing me for whatever lies ahead, good and bad.

My grandson goes to a school that teaches classic Christian education. Every week he has to memorize a verse. He was falling behind, and the teacher talked to my daughter and son-in-law, encouraging them to make sure he memorizes his verses.

She said, “we’re not doing this to check off a box, we believe that someday down the road he will need one of those verses and it will come to him because he has hidden it in his heart.”

You might not think what you’re reading is exciting, but there will come a time when you will need something you’ve read, and it will be LIFE to you. Jesus is the Bread of Life, and we need that bread daily (John 6:35).

8. I have been considering Invisalign and was wondering how it is going for you and maybe before, during, and after pics?

I had Invisalign last year, and I only had to wear it for 12 to 14 weeks. It was more bothersome than I had hoped, but I still think it was worth it. I’m a dental hygienist by profession, so healthy teeth and gums are important to me, especially as I age. The dentist’s office took before and after pictures, but I don’t have them with me.

9. What are the makeup updates &/or techniques that we 50-somethings need to consider to look current/younger? Or, another way to ask, what are we still doing with the makeup that is dating us?

Great question, and this is always something I am looking at and learning. I would love to dedicate a blog post to this question, so look for that soon.

If I had to say one thing that helps you look younger, it’s making sure you have eyebrows. If they’re sparse (and most of ours will be as we age), make sure you’re filling them in. I’m using the Laura Gellar Bravo Brows Pencil.

10. How did you and your husband meet? Just curious.

A mutual friend introduced Wayne and me. As I have mentioned before, I was divorced and had Courtney and Cory, so Wayne prayed for about six months before he asked me out. We went out in March 1991 and married in October 1991. We will be married 32 years in October.

Our marriage has not been perfect, but we have fought hard to have a good marriage and are so thankful for God’s grace and mercy. We are truly blessed!

If you are looking for a good book about marriage (you can read it together), this book is one of our favorites.

I know I didn’t get to all of them, but I tried to get to as many as I could. I’ll do another Q&A soon.

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to stop by my blog. I’m also on FacebookPinterest, and Instagram.

  15. What happened to your puppy you mentioned in a post previously? I was hoping that was a question on here but I guess I’ll just have to ask. 😜 We temporarily lost our marbles during Covid and got a mini goldendoodle. That puppy stage was HARD but he will be 2 in February and we are crazy about him. Our kids say we spoil him more than we did them!🤷🏼‍♀️

  17. I just started strength training inductory offer at the Healthplex here. I am finished now and have learned all the machines and focused on strength training like you. How long did it take you to see real visible results in your upper ams? I am doing this to not lose bone and build muscle as being petite or slight of build as they say, tend to lose more as we have less to lose but would love to wear sleeveless again as an added bonus. I did a killer week of classes this week along with trainer. Do you do classes too?
