Spring Fashion Trends 2017

Earlier this week I talked about Out of Style Fashion Trends in 2017. Now that we know what might be out, let’s talk about Spring Fashion Trends we might be wearing in 2017.

There are a lot of trends coming in 2017 and I didn’t list all of them. Some of them are too far out there so I didn’t include those trends. I did try to share the ones I thought were doable for women my age.

  • Seaside stripes-stripes are always in style but the new look is a vertical stripe which I think most women can wear.

  • Green-If you haven’t heard, green is the Pantone color of the year. While this coat is not the exact Pantone color, I think you’ll see a lot of green popping up this spring.

  • Silk Neck ScarfI’m a huge fan of these scarves and they are a definite spring trend.

  • Cut out shoulder-It looks like the cut out shoulder and off the shoulder tops are going to be popular. Although they are getting crazier with single shoulder cut outs and the flashdance shoulder (basically one side of your top hangs off your shoulder). I can’t see me wearing those styles but I have learned to never say never.

On a side not it looks like shoulder pads are making a comeback. What?? #pleaseno

  • Bell sleeves-Sleeves are still a big trend this spring with the bell sleeve, flutter sleeves and the ruffled sleeve.

  • Maxi dress-I am seeing a lot of maxi dress and maxi skirts for spring 2017.

There you go! That’s some of what you’ll see this spring and summer. What do you think?? I’m going to share shoe spring trends and jewelry spring trends next week.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to stop by my blog. If you don’t want to miss a post, you can sign up to receive my daily emails and you’ll never miss a thing. I’m also on FacebookPinterest and my favorite one, Instagram.

Beauty for the Heart~~One of the best ways to get your day started is spending time in God’s word. If you’re looking for a good devotional, I really like the First Five app. It’s a great resource that you can download on your phone.

We are reading through the book of Joshua right now. If you would like to find out more go here. Why not trying giving God the first five minutes of your day?

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you” Psalm 32:8

Have a blessed day!

  1. I didn’t see that it published my comment, so I’m writing it again!! Sorry if it ends up showing twice..??
I love seeing the neck scarf trend is still going strong. I think it’s perfect for us older women (in fact, I just wore one yesterday). They keep me warm in this colder weather, yet hide some wrinkles!!

  2. I love the silk scarf trend. I have a short neck but i think I can still pull it off. Glad to see the cold shoulder and bell sleeves. Feminine details. YAY!

  3. I like those! The little cuffed cropped skinny jeans I wear from Banana Republic are my favorite summer time jeans. While at work in the Boutique at Stein Mart as my one day a week job this past Monday we got in fringed winter white frayed jeans & were so cute. I love maxi dresses and the color green. For the longest I wouldn’t wear green as people said my eyes turned green when I wore that color but I said hey get over it…….its a beautiful color & so what, it’s kinda neat that my eyes do something quirky, ha! I love that bell sleeve top & cold shouldered ones are awesome. The scarf is the only thing I might not do as I have never been a huge scarf fan even though I love them on other people. I would rather wear big earrings or a statement necklace but like you say never say never. Thanks for posting all these……..always fun knowing what to look forward to in fashion 🙂

  4. Love love love the scarf, vertical stripes and maxi dresses. Will have to consider the bell sleeves. Not sure I’m so excited about the color green but we will see. I absolutely don’t like the cut-out shoulder – I wish that look had died completely – ha. And I don’t like the detailed denim – it’s okay for younger women – just don’t feel it looks good on us older gals. But to each their own – right? I say if you like it and it looks good on you – go for it! 🙂

Thanks for sharing the First5 app. Going to give it a try. I have really been trying to have more devotional time but the mornings just get away from me I’m ashamed to say.

Keep all the good information coming! Love it!

    1. Well I’m 50 and I would wear them so that’s interesting. I tried to pick the ones I thought were appropriate for women over 40.

      1. I’m 48 and would definitely wear some of these trends. I think it’s all about how you style your whole outfit that makes these trends appropriate for women our age. Cyndi, you do a great job of combining trendy fashion with classic pieces. Thanks for sharing these looks! I look forward to reading your blog every day!

      2. The striped top and bell sleeve floral tops need to be in closet! Not sure if I like the jean trend but we’ll see what’s out there. And, I like the maxi dresses. Not a fan of green except in plants, so I’ll pass on Pantone’s color of the year. Oh, and I’m nit sure about the little scarfs. Thanks for the roundup of trends, Cyndi.

      3. I’m 62 and wear a lot of the outfits. Matter of fact I take a picture of the outfits I love and go shop for it. Lol.

    2. I think you have to decide for yourself, first, do I like the trend, second, would I be comfortable wearing it, third, will it work for my body type, and lifestyle. Once all these are considered, go for it. Not everything is appropriate for everyone no matter what the age. I see some young women wearing things they absolutely should not because they are too curvy, too skinny OR, and the worst offenses I see are inappropriate workwear, and undergarments. I can’t tell you haw many young women I work with that need to check their backside before they leave home – unless they are okay with everyone knowing they wear a thong – sorry, I’m on a soapbox here. I think they’re fine underwear, but often no undies would be better than the lines they make, also not a fan of bra straps haning out – esp. at work. And I know that that may be a “trendy” thing to do, but ugh, I cringe when I see it. That’s all :).

    3. I think it is more about what you are comfortable with. I passed a woman this week in her late60’s, maybe older, who was on trend and stylish. I thought to myself, she looks great and yeah…that’s going to be me. 15 months from my AARP card, bring it on!

  5. I’m having so much fun wearing my silk scarves! I have several that I’ve collected over the years. I was wearing them in a “blanket” style, but I much prefer wearing them just tied around my neck. Here’s a great tip: a silk scarf is an awesome souvenir of your travels! You can often find lovely ones in museum shops (I have a gorgeous one from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC) or of course in little shops in cities/towns you visit. They add almost no weight or bulk to your luggage and create no clutter when you get them back home. Then every time you wear them, they remind you of the places you’ve visited. 🙂

  6. I love all of the trends that you featured! My favorite is the seaside stripe top. I just turned 50 and I think all these are appropriate. 🙂

    Have a great day!

  7. I am happy to see that I will be able to wear a couple of the beautiful neck scarfs I just couldn’t part with come back around….the fringe hem is something I may be able to pull of as I too celebrated the big 50 this year…welcome to the club Cyndi! The cold shoulder tops are a great alternative to the plunging necklines..a little bit edgy but not revealing! Love that! Keep up the good work!

  8. I am 52 and I just love the bell sleeve blouse. Personally I am tired of the look of the keyhole sweater. Love a nice maxi dress.

  9. Really love that blouse with the vertical stripes – personally I think all stripes should be vertical since they are more slimming and overall more flattering. If you notice very few men’s shirts have horizontal stripes, they’re almost always vertical – just sayin’ :). I’m on the fence with the scarves, but like you I never say never. If I ever would wear green it would have to be a very cool (blue-ish) green because green is not flattering on this gal. I do like the jeans with the front slit and detailing – fun!!!!
I know that what you show us are suggestions, and we have to make it our own, or choose not to wear at all. i never want to be the one people are saying “ugh, doesn’t she know she’s too old to wear that”. That being said, I’m a firm believer in taking what’s in style – if I like it – and making it work for me. I totally get that an all-over trendy look is not going to work for me, but one trendy item is great. I actaully had a 30-something tell me today – “hey, you look really stylish today” I thought that was nice, and didn’t feel she was making fun of me in any way. Thanks for sharing great ideas and keeping us in style!

  10. I’m a huge fan of bell sleeves, but recognize them for the trend that they are. I plan to add one spring top with bell sleeves for casual wear, my nod to the trend. Also have a ton of scarves that will work this way. I do like the patchwork jeans, but honestly don’t think I can do it without looking like I’m trying to be a teenager! On the other hand, if I tossed on a structured blazer for contrast, I think that might actually look good. Thanks for the tip of the app. I’m going to check that out.

  11. Thank you for the spring trends post. I love the looks. Great to read that maxi skirts are still around – I have a bunch of those. thanks for your posts, Cyndi.

  12. Hey Cindi! I really like these trends but I don’t think they all look good on me, I’m 58. But I think you strike a modest balance with your choices. You have such good taste that’s why I love your blog! And I find myself looking more and more forward to your scripture messages because they seem to always be on point for me. I will download the 5min app today. God Bless!
..and I was just thinking yesterday just wait..if they bring back padded shoulders again and I’m heading for the hills…HA!

  13. I had trouble getting to your post this morning. When I clicked “read the post” it said the page couldn’t be accessed and gave a menu – I clicked Blog and got the post. This has never happened before and wanted you to be aware. Maybe it was just a fluke.

    1. Just to echo Sharel, I also had to go directly to the blog via your website today and yesterday. I got the email but the link didn’t work. 🙃

  14. I can’t believe three Bonnies have commented…there aren’t that many of us! I’m assuming that most of the silk scarves are going to be prints? So they’re going to work best with solid tops? Pattern mixing is in, I know, but I can’t see it looking good close to the face. Trying to decide whether a scarf tied tightly around my neck is going to be a good look for my short neck…

  15. I guess I will add to the list…..the link did not work, but it did take me to your site. I then found the post with ease. Thankfully I’ve not had trouble receiving your emails. But I would look for you if I did. 🙂

I have to be honest…not in love with the neck scarf. Not a look I enjoyed even on “50s days” when I was in school. And, no, I “probably” won’t wear the Flashdance look. LOL (or shoulder pads)

But the rest are darling and so fun! I appreciate all your research for us. Downloading the app and giving it a try.

  16. I too had a problem with today’s post. I have the Take 5 app, it’s great! I love the silk neck scarves but haven’t been able to find one yet…might be looking in the wrong stores. I love maxi dresses/skirts, the bell sleeves and vertical stripes. As with any trend we have to decide what looks best personally. Thank you for the hard work you put in to show us what will be trending! I turned 60 in Sept, and would wear most of these. Probably not the jeans, and not a fan of cold shoulder for me. Have a blessed day!

  17. I love love bell sleeves! So happy those are trending. I also love silk scarves–I’ve got one of my mom’s that I love and wear sparingly. And green! I think spring will be very pretty indeed. 🙂

  18. So happy to see green trending! Love cold shoulders as long as bra friendly, glad to see that trend sticking! Great to see what’s coming! I have several pair of released hem jeans, so glad to see that is still in, although I really just wear what I like. Love your blog!

  19. Love these Spring trends… some of which are carrying on from this past summer, like the bell sleeves, and the thin scarves, and the maxie dresses… I love the fashions and trends when they go on into another season from the previous year. Makes wearing my clothes for more then one year. God Bless….

Did you start the cleanse program? I am thinking of doing it. Do you have coupon? What do you think of it?
