What Colors Go With Burgundy: The Best Fall Outfit Combinations

I can’t scroll through new fall arrivals without spotting burgundy! It’s always been one of those classic fall colors, but this year, it feels fresh again. I think a lot of that has to do with how I’m seeing it styled, with color combinations I wouldn’t have thought to put together before. It has me looking at burgundy in a whole new way, so if you’re wondering what colors go with burgundy and how to wear it this fall, let’s talk about it!

Is Burgundy in Style for Fall 2026?

Burgundy is definitely still going strong for fall 2026. You’ll see everything from deep wine and merlot to oxblood and bordeaux, and I’m finding it on sweaters, pants, dresses, handbags, shoes, and jackets.

What feels different this year isn’t necessarily the color itself. It’s how it’s being worn. Instead of treating burgundy like a traditional fall color that automatically gets paired with black, I’m seeing it used almost like a neutral. That’s where combinations like burgundy and pink or burgundy and light blue come in.

Burgundy and Pink

I’m seeing quite a bit of burgundy paired with pink this fall, and it gives such a deep, traditional fall color a much fresher look. Soft pink, blush, and dusty rose are probably the easiest shades to wear. They give you contrast without feeling too bright. I’ve also seen burgundy with stronger pinks, and that’s a fun option if you like more color.

Burgundy and Light Blue

Burgundy and light blue is another pairing I keep noticing, and this one is so pretty. Light blue takes some of the heaviness out of burgundy.

Jacket (XS) | Jeans (4) | Shoes

I especially like this combination for early fall when I’m ready for fall clothes but don’t necessarily want to look like I’m dressed for November.

Burgundy and Cream

I tend to prefer cream or ivory over bright white once we get into fall. It softens burgundy and keeps the entire outfit from getting too dark. If you’re someone who doesn’t love wearing dark colors close to your face, keep the cream on top and use burgundy on the bottom or in your accessories.

Burgundy and Denim

Gingham Shirt (small) | Jeans (27) | Belt | Mules

This is probably how I’ll wear burgundy most often because you know I love my jeans. Pretty much every denim wash works with burgundy, but I especially like it with the darker denim we’re seeing for fall.

Deep indigo and burgundy look really good together without feeling dressy. Add a chocolate brown shoe or handbag, and you’ve got a great fall color palette without having to think too hard about it. You can also keep your clothing completely neutral and add burgundy shoes to a denim outfit.

Burgundy and Camel

Burgundy and camel is one of those combinations that comes back every fall for a reason. The warmth of camel works so well with that deep red tone, and it’s an easy combination to make with pieces many of us already own.

If you have a camel coat or jacket, try it over a burgundy sweater with jeans. A camel handbag is another easy addition to a burgundy outfit. You can also mix camel and chocolate brown in the same look.

Burgundy and Gray

If your closet leans toward cooler neutrals, try burgundy with gray. Charcoal is probably my favorite. A burgundy sweater with charcoal pants is a nice change from black, and the combination still feels very classic.

Lighter heather gray works, too. You could wear a gray sweater and jeans and simply add a burgundy handbag or pair of flats. This is also a nice alternative if all of the chocolate brown we’re seeing this season isn’t your thing.

Burgundy and Navy

Striped Cardigan (small) | Pants (27) | Heels

Burgundy and navy don’t get talked about as much, but they’re really pretty together. You may already be wearing this combination without realizing it if you pair a burgundy top with dark indigo jeans. For something a little different, try a navy sweater with burgundy pants. I love gold jewelry with these two colors because it adds some warmth.

Burgundy and Black

Yes, you can absolutely wear burgundy with black. It’s classic, it’s easy, and sometimes it’s exactly what an outfit needs. The difference this fall is that I don’t think black has to be our automatic choice every time we wear burgundy.

What Color Shoes Go With Burgundy?

There are several shoe colors you can wear with burgundy, but brown is probably my favorite for fall. Chocolate brown is what’s currently trending, while cognac, tan, and taupe are easy choices that work with almost everything else in your closet.

If you’re trying one of the newer burgundy combinations, like pink or light blue, a brown or neutral shoe is a good way to ground the outfit.

What Color Handbag Goes With Burgundy?

You have lots of options when it comes to handbags. Chocolate brown would be my first choice this fall, but cognac, camel, cream, taupe, and black all work.

I also really like a burgundy handbag. If you tend to wear a lot of jeans, cream, camel, gray, navy, or brown, you’d probably carry it more than you think. It’s a nice way to add some color without committing to a burgundy sweater or pair of pants.

What Jewelry Looks Best With Burgundy?

I usually gravitate toward gold jewelry when I’m wearing burgundy. The warmth of gold looks especially pretty with burgundy, chocolate brown, camel, and cream. You don’t need much either. A simple gold necklace, hoop earrings, or a few bracelets are plenty.

If you’re wearing burgundy with gray, black, or light blue, you might want to try silver!

Are You Wearing Burgundy This Fall?

Before you add anything new to your cart, take a peek in your closet. I have a feeling some of us have a burgundy sweater, jacket, or handbag hiding in there from a few falls ago!

Are you loving all the burgundy this year, or are you sitting this one out?

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to stop by my blog. I’m also on Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram.

Mountains are some of the most stable, immovable things we see on earth. They stand tall for centuries, weathering storms, earthquakes, and time itself. Yet God says, even if those mountains crumbled into nothing, His love for us would remain.

What a promise! People may fail us, circumstances may change, and the ground beneath us may feel shaky, but God’s love is unshakable. His peace doesn’t depend on how secure we feel, but on His eternal faithfulness. His compassion is greater than the tallest mountain and deeper than the widest valley.

  3. I’ve never cared for Burgundy as I have yellow undertones in my skin and it doesn’t look good on me. I may try burgundy pants just because it’s trending this year and I like it with navy/denim.

  4. Yes I am but right now we are 108 and 110 heat index in Mississippi. I have the cute corset waist shirt from Old Navy in burgundy like the light blue striped one I had this summer. Short sleeved and waiting on a little cooler day to we. Also wanted to know if you could wear a solid burgundy like this one I have with a slightly bootcut ankle jean in lighter blue since you started out the post with burgundy and light blue. Would that work?

  5. Hi Cyndi!
I was in Michigan several years ago and was gifted a really pretty “Petoskey stone” pendant; definitely pick up a piece of jewelry with this stone; it’s a great momento and gift!

  6. Each Fall I tend to buy burgundy and then don’t reach for it. Don’t know why, I just don’t feel good in it. But I do like it with other colors. Plain solid felts so dark. I have plenty of burgundy in my closet to shop so may try them first. Could you post your travels once home? Where you went, stayed and wore?

  7. Burgundy looks better on gals with cool skin tones. I have warm peachy skin, and burgundy does me no favors. I do have a nice little burgundy x-body bag that I will carry in the fall from time to time though.

  8. How long are the sleeves on the burgundy jacket with blue trim that you have rolled up? I am 5’4″ and worried that might be too long when not pushed up. I don’t think you can shorten the sleeves since it has the blue trim.

    1. I don’t know the length, but I could leave them down, and they would be fine. I just like to push them up if it’s not too cold.
