What I Wore-Fashion For Women Over 40

Happy hump day!! I’m going to be brief today because I’m headed out to do some spring shopping. Thought I might better start since my spring fashion starts on Monday.

I didn’t know we were going to get smacked with the Winter Storm of 2015 and it’s put me a little behind. Believe it or not we still have snow covered yards. It’s been so cold the snow has not melted.

Thankfully, I think it’s going to melt this weekend because temperatures are going to warm up just in time for my spring fashion. Hallelujah!!

Wow!! You all had a lot of opinions on the wide leg trousers. That’s why I love you ladies!! 🙂 I will try to style a pair for spring so be on the look out for that!

I want to be comfortable today so this is what I’m wearing. Not a lot of color today!

I did a front tuck with this shirt from Nordstrom. Some of you have asked to see it from the rear.

It’s not easy to take pictures of your back side when you’re taking your own pictures. I had to take it with my iphone, but here you go. I just tuck a little bit in the front and let the back hang out. Easy peasy!

  1. I do the front tuck ALL the time it seems. Many of my jeans has enough of the stretch in them that I feel the need to wear a belt and who wants a shirt hanging down on the outside covering the belt and making you look bulky so instead I tuck in the front and show off a cute belt at the same time. I don’t tuck it ALL in all around because sometimes the shirt isn’t made to be tucked in (i.e. too long, too flowey, etc.)

  2. Love the look, I have sand/tan camo and what would u pair with those… I have worn a cream poncho sweater from the loft a few years back but trying to figure out what else to pair them with …
ordered my first stitchfix… yesterday to be deliverd 3/7 cant wait to see how this works!

  3. I love you!!! I’ve been following you for 2 weeks now and I wish you lived in Atlanta, cause I want to be your shopping buddy! I thought I was too old for camos but you make them look great!! I want some! Can’t wait to see what you do for spring!!

  4. I do the front tuck a lot now that I have seen it on your and other blogs. It is a really good option for me. Thanks for suggesting it and it looks great on you too.

  5. Have fun shopping. I bought a pair of the wide leg pants and love them. Will be anxious to see what kind of top you pair with them. Fitted or loose?

  6. Have fun sjopping today! Can’t wait to see your spring outfits…can’t wait for SPRING! We still have snow in Greeneville TN too. Have a wonderfully blessed day!

  7. I’m just going to comment on the black blouse, as I have the same one, and also a second in another color, very comfortable, versatile and washes well…a bit expensive, but I’ve had similar in other brands that didn’t hold up so in the long run this has been a better value…I almost wore it today, but since it’s FREEZING here I didn’t think it was enough to get me through the work day. I’m too short for the wide leg pants, but I think they are beautiful on the right body. I do remember wearing them when I was about 13. My grandmother was right when she told me everything eventually comes back in style.

  8. Hey Cindy… cute outfit! If you don’t have a self-timer option on your camera or you use your phone camera, there is a self-timer app that might help. It’s called Timer Cam and it works great. As the saying always seems to go … there’s an app for that!

    1. Hey Stacey than link takes me to the page of tops. I can’t see the specific top you’re talking about. I’d love to see it!!

  9. Hi Cyndi… We have snow covered ground with more to come here in Yorktown, VA with more to come…. Regarding the front tuck. .Since you asked…. I use the fable “The Emperor’s New Clothes” as my fashion guide… It is so true, have you read it lately as an adult? In fashion just because someone thinks we need to only tuck the front in of our shirt doesn’t mean it looks good.on everyone. I am not a fan. At 60,next month , it looks like I am trying too hard to be in style. I would not tuck the shirt. Keep the tips coming. You encourage me to try new things and to decide what I like and will pass on. I have passed on this look since it came out.

  10. I LOVE those camo pants on you!!! I tuck like this all the time 🙂 works best to put it behind the belt and not actually tucked into the pants for me. stay warm, it’s freezing here in MN too!! ugh.

  11. You look darling with this front tuck look! Not so much on my squatty body! 🙂
I do love the camo look and the shirt is beautiful!!
Cannot wait to view your spring collection! Here in the south, we will welcome spring sooner than later! Many blessings!!

  12. IF I tuck a shirt in, this is how I always do it! I feel like it hides love handles and and curves I may not want to show the world at 49 years of age! I think it is a flattering way to style a shirt! Thank you for making this a fashionable way to style an outfit!!!

  13. I love this tuck-in-the-front look on you! I have been tempted to try this style…but I am still working on my waist line. Maybe by the spring, but then the fashion will have changed. lol
Wide leg pants, I have some and love them. They de-emphasize my child-bearing hips. ;o)

  14. Love the front tuck! Not sure I’d be able to pull it off though. In the short amount of time I’ve been following you, I’ve noticed your style is up to date and classic! So I was surprised to see you in the camo jeans! What a great look that not everyone can pull off! You’ve definitely got that “style” gene! I’m excited to see the results of your shopping trip. Soooo ready to ditch the cold weather clothes & start dressing in a single layer again!

  15. I see you bought the shirt! I told you that I loved it. Still too cold here in Cincy to wear it though! Bra, did you hear that Beth Moore will be in Cincinnati this summer? Didn’t know if your ladies travel this far north, hahaha, but it should be a blessed time together as ladies. Amy

  16. I’ve finally warmed up to the front tuck look but in my opinion, a cute statement belt is almost a must to complete the look! Looking very forward to your Spring fashion posts in March!

    1. Hi Nancy,
I’m glad you mentioned the statement belt…. my daughter loves the front tuck but always with a cute or fashioned belt that always sets off the outfit and completes it-just like you said!

  17. I’m 47 and sometimes I wonder if I’m trying to dress to young any suggestions on what stores I should stay away from or which ones to try.

    1. Hi. I struggled with this question of dressing too young. My theory is that if it makes you feel good, and you are not getting strange looks from people, go for it.

  18. Good say Cyndi,
It is always my morning pleasure to scroll through my emails and see your web site… I always know you will have something new and interesting…. I missed yesterdays so after this comment I will flip back to the one on wide-legged trousers. This is a very cute outfit! Your styles have changed to more of a feminine-sexy (which I love) appeal then high class and stuffed-shirt appeal. These outfits you have been modeling are more hip, chic, and fun!! I love them!! You are beautiful in all of them!! 🙂

    1. I’m also 47 and I love the styles you wear… back when I was in my late 20’s I was told by my mother in law that I dressed in too old-looking clothes…. so I started shopping for younger chic looking clothes and now that I have two daughters, one being 17, she really does help me choose outfits that are not too old-looking or too young-looking. If anyone is not sure of how they are dressing for their age… I find it is always good to get the opinion of a teenager or young adult at least 25-30 years younger then yourself …. it is easy to find them in clothing stores. Or shop with a niece!!

  19. Funny story…I wore my shirt with the front tuck one day and my husband said “Come here” and he then proceeded to untuck my shirt, as if it accidentally got stuck in there! I told him that the tuck was intentional and he looked at me as if I had two heads. He said “You’re kidding?” I said “Nope” and tucked it right back in.
You look great…Love the camo pants too!

  20. Cyndi, you’re absolutely adorable. I can’t wait to see your spring outfits! I leave in one week for Spring Break so I have four days to shop as you post!! I hope you debut something with the “tennis shoes”, cuz that’s a struggle but exciting. Thanks for all you do for us. God Bless.

  21. I have those pants and have worn a black v neck t-shirt and tucken the front as well as have knotted the front with a button up. Both were with summer sandals. One pair were flat and the other were a 2 inch heel. I’m 54. And I pulled it off with compliments from mostly women my age!
