Why do I stress?

My devotional book this morning quoted Psalm 91:3-6, 14 from the Message….”I’ll get you out of any trouble. I’ll give you the best of care if you’ll only get to know and trust me. Call me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times.”

I love God’s word and I love how it seems to speak to me right where I need it. I’m trying so hard to know Him, to trust Him, and to call on Him. I need Him right now more than ever.

This year has been a whirlwind for our family. We moved to a new town, moved in a new house, began a new ministry at HBC, I began working in a new office as a dental hygienist after working in the same office for 15 years, my Mom found out she had cancer and passed away six weeks later, my Dad has moved in with us, my daughter got engaged……I think I’m stressed! I’m trying not to be, but I went to the doctor this morning and I have shingles. The doctor said they were stress related. Go figure!

Why can’t I stop stressing? Why am I blogging about it? Maybe because someone else out there is stressing too. Maybe you need to hear like I need to hear that God IS on our side. He really does love us and He wants us to get to know Him and trust Him.

I don’t know what you’re going through today, but God does! and if we will only let Him he will get us out of any trouble. Call on Him, He will answer. I’m certainly going to…….I can’t take another bout with shingles:)

Trials have no value or intrinsic meaning in themselves. It’s the way we respond to those trials that makes all the difference. Joni Eareckson Tada

Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened. Helen Keller

Surely he hath borne our grief’s, and carried our sorrows……and with his stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:4-5 KJV

  1. I bumped into your blog “accidentaly” but was so encouraged by your honesty. Sometimes when we are in ministry we feel that we should not admit to our stresses. The Lord has been teaching me to live out in the open with Him and those around me. I loved your honesty. May you be refreshed and strengthened with His joy today. Love Janine over in South africa

  2. I am so so sorry for you!! I live in fear of shingles and didn’t realize stress caused them–another stress!LOl really though, stress can cause so many physical ailments. I got Acid Reflux last year because of it.
I read a devotional today that we need to believe beforehand that God will take care of all our needs–not worry and worry and wait until he does and then celebrate…but now.
Praying for you and all of us stressing people that today we will give it back to God!

  3. I came to your blog from your sisters blog.. both of you always have such inspirational postings, and they are always read at the right time! 🙂 I’ll be praying for some less stressful times in your life.

  4. I saw something today that made me smile – it said ” life is not about waiting for the storms to pass , but learning how to dance in the rain”. I loved it and I am pretty sure it is exactly what God wanted me to realize for this day. I hope it will help you too. Thank you for continuing to share the Lord’s words with all of us!

  5. urghhh, shingles are not good, I’ve only heard how bad they are, and I’m praying you heal quickly from them and can lay your stress at His feet. It’s never easy, but His grace and mercy are new every day.
    hugs

  6. I too am in your boat. I have shingles (stress related) for the fourth time. My parents moved in with us this year, and Mother has been on bedrest for the past 14 weeks with broken bones in her pelvis, and Daddy’s health is failing. My daughter is also engaged, and we are planning an april wedding. We are awaiting the birth Thursday of our secone grandson, and our daughter inherited her Dad’s bad genes for a clotting disorder, so we are worried about her for the next few weeks. My heart goes out to you. With Jesus we can get through it all.I will say a prayer for you. I appreciate your Scripture verses and the songs on your blog.Word of god, speak.

I wasnt’ going to comment, but decided I should let you know that this afternoon you were my message sent from God, that I KNOW in my heart, but for some reason don’t listen to. I’ve been struggling with stress & depression so much this year. Thank you for the scripture, continuing to keep your family in my prayers.

  9. Cyndi – I know right where you are at my friend. Stress is not a good thing to have and it’s hard to get rid of! I am on my way now to pick up my daughter Melissa at the airport in BRouge. She has been in Africa for 10 weeks and I am so ready to see her!

I am praying for you my friend.
