What To Wear For the 4th of July

It’s Day 22 of my 26 Days of Summer Fashion and I’m joining my friend Jo-Lynne Shane for a 4th of July collaboration. Can you believe July 4th is next weekend?

We have several get togethers planned for next weekend and they will all be outside, if the weather permits. It’s usually hot here in Kentucky (although last year it was unusually cool and we had blankets over us!) so I’ll be wearing this blue star print sleeveless top with white shorts.

Since the weather is hot and humid, I’ll pull my hair back in a ponytail. This is one of the benefits of letting my hair grow out a little.

I’m in love with these Michael Kors sandals and I’ve already worn them a ton. I wore them to church with a dress on Father’s Day and then after church I wore them with my romper. I love a heel but this outfit would be just as cute with a pair of flat sandals.

I snapped this picture of the front of my house. I think it shows my southern style…initial on my pineapple, ferns and red geraniums.

  1. I love the whole outfit you have on. I am leaving at lunch and going to get a shirt like yours! Thank you for sharing. I am a forty-something and you inspire me.

  2. Awwwhhh, your front porch is so adorable !!!! Love the combo of Red geraniums and ferns together Cyndi-very “Southern Chic”. I have really been admiring those MCK sandals for a while and you have styled them in several very couture ways so I may just have to make those my “summer fashion investment” purchase. Am being very blessed by your “Beauty for the Heart” nuggets and appreciate the fact that our Father God is so creative and thoughtful in how he allows his word to be shared, and that you are such a genuine and willing servant. Thank you for your ministry Cyndi.

  3. Love the patriotic outfit and the fact that you give us links to the items or similar ones.

  4. I love you outfits!!! So cute, but they don’t look like you’re trying to be 15! Thanks! Marrla

  5. I lovvvve your site. You inspire me to do my own…someday.
Loving this outfit, especially with the red purse 🙂

  6. Love your blog–your inspirational posts and your style tips!! I look forward to receiving your email each day!! Thanks!!

    1. I’m 30 and I absolutely LOVE your style, Mrs. Cyndi! I really look forward to each new post reminding me that beauty and style are both internal and external.

  7. I love all of your fashion ideas. I don’t go out to the mall nearly as much as I used to. I just follow your blog and click! It’s so much easier! Thank you!

  8. The fourth of July is fun family time for us at our lake place. We love to get together with our family and friends at the lake and cook out together. The highlight of the day is our fireworks display! I love what you are wearing on the 4th– an outfit like this would be perfect for our lake party!

  9. I love that you already know what you’re wearing for the 4th! So do I!! Hope you enjoy your day! Thanks for the opportunity to win a generous Nordstrom gift card….I just bought one for my sister’s birthday and we agreed it’s the perfect gift! Shoes…clothes….make up….so many great options!

  10. Going to be in Seattle for the 4th where it’s supposed to be 95! Definitely need to wear an outfit like yours!

  11. I love following your blog. I’m some over 40 plus, but I still to to follow your style. I’ve never shopped at Nordstroms, but would enjoy the chance!

  12. Love the ponytail! We celebrate the 4th with family in South Georgia, honey it’s hotter than blue blazes! love your top!

  13. Cyndi…..love your fashion sense, and have been following you for over a year. You’re inspirational! ❤️

  14. Happy 4th! Thanks for the giveaway. I love all things red, white, and blue. Our oldest child is a 4th of July baby!!!

  15. I really love your 4th of July outfits. Great easy choices on how we girls of a certain age can look fabulous! I’m also loving your posts on summer outfits.

  16. Love your outfit, since I had a couple errands near Penny’s I stopped in and picked up your top 🙂 I will probably wear white ankle pants with it. We are going to friends in AL for the 4th. LOVE your Southern Porch!!

  17. We always…annual event….spend the whole day at the creek on our place. Potluck for lunch and roast wienies and marshmallows around a fire for supper before doing fireworks. We have a “swimming hole” and people swim and play all day. My attire will be a swimsuit all day and evening…I will probably wear my boyfriend jeans and a tee-shirt with tennis shoes, or crocs.

  18. So Cute! Can I ask about the black or navy shirt/bra that you have on under the blouse? Is it one of those pull over strapless stretchy bras? Where did you get yours?

    1. Hey Kate,
It’s a navy blue tank top from Old Navy. It’s a darker blue then my printed tank top. I didn’t like a white tank top under it so I went with navy.
      Hope that helps!
      Cyndi

  19. Love the blog – fun, on-trend fashion ideas for this stage of life. Thanks for the giveaway opp. too!

  20. Love your hair in a ponytail. Love the outfit too! Where did you find the velcro rollers you use and what size are they? It looks like you leave the back out of rollers? Do you do that so it won’t be curly on the ends? Thanks!

    1. Ann I use big purple rollers all over, even in the back. I think I got mine at Walmart. I’ve had them for a while but you should be able to find them at Walmart or Target.
      Hope that helps!
      Cyndi

  21. You look so cute and casual. I love the shirt and your hair up in a ponytail. My only negative thought is about those high sandals. We tend to do a lot of walking on 4th of July, whether to find a perfect spot on the parade route or to wade through all the picnickers before the fireworks, so to me high heels seem a bit impractical. Cute though, for sure!

    1. Yes Laurie that would be very impractical! We watch the fireworks at a friends home who has a great view so we don’t do any walking and we set up chairs in her driveway.
If I have to do any walking I wouldn’t wear heels.
      Blessings,
      Cyndi

  22. I love your outfit! I think I may wear a cute shirt I ordered from Glamour Farms using your discount code last week… I love it! Thanks for all you do, Karen

  23. You look amazing in this outfit!!! I just painted my toe nails red for the holiday! Now need to put together an outfit. Those shoes are beautiful.

  24. Hey there! Just found you through Jo-Lynn’s blog. Love your style and actually you’re closer to me in TN. Looking forward to all the great ideas. Have a Great 4th!

  25. Thanks so much for this chance. I wonder if this is good a Nordstrom Rack? I try not to buy too many clothes, so if I win I won’t feel so guilty! I’m heading out of town for The 4th to visit a sick in-law. It will be hard, but I hope to cheer her up a little. Since her prognosis she’s completely given up hope.

  26. Cyndi, I’m desperate for an answer from you or any of your readers. Has anyone found a sunless tanning lotion that absolutely leaves no aftermath odor? I have tried everything from high end products to cheap products, to products promising to be odor-free but all of them fail miserably. My daughter tells me to use it at night but to be honest the smell nauseates me and my husband pus I don’t like to put such product on my nice linens. If I use them in the day (which I do) the odor roams around with me all day long. Is there anything out there that really works or am I just destined to notify the whole world that yes, I’m a faker baker?

  27. Cute outfits for both you and Jolynn! I wish Canadians had as much cute decor / outfits / excitement over our July 1 celebrations. Also, thanks for the giveaway 🙂

  28. Love the top, your site is so fun and I enjoy the daily scripture. today’s was well timed for me.
    Have a great fourth!

  29. Cute look…I will do the white in capris instead of shorts, now I need to shop my closet, the thrift store, and the mall (In that order) for a shirt. Red flats or tennis, as I have bad feet and can’t do the cute sandals you wear so well! Thanks for all the ideas!

  30. Love this holiday look! I’ve checked my local JCPenney stores and a few have that cute top in stock, so I’m going to check it out. I I don’t have have holiday plans yet, but will be ready for anything in this, combined with white capris or cropped pants. My short shorts days are long gone, but they look so good on you! Thanks for the suggestion, and have a safe and fun holiday!

  31. I like that your outfit isn’t over the top patriotic. Not a fan of looking like the flag. This outfit would work any day of the summer without looking like you’re early/late to the 4th party!

  32. Great outfit for the 4th or summer in general! I love your blog Cyndi. I also follow Jolynne and both of you give me great inspiration, but I especially love your Beauty for the Heart each day. I love your faithfulness and willingness to shine for Jesus. You do a wonderful work and all of us ladies benefit from it. Thans!
    Debbie Peel

  33. Darling outfit! Looks so cool and comfortable for a hot summer celebration! Thanks for the chance to win the gift card! 😉

  34. You always look cute and I love the front porch. I have red geraniums too….Love, Love, Love!!!

  35. Cyndi you look awesome, so patriotic!!!!
Your pony looks so cute on you, I love the bump from your up do, very stylish. You should rock that hair style more 🙂
I’m letting my hair grow out too and I make similar pony tails of course with a bump too! I rely on ponies now since my hair is at an awkward stage plus it’s like 1000 degrees in southwest New Mexico lol!!! Enjoy your weekend 🙂

  36. Cyndi,

The 4th is my favorite holiday! Love the pop of red with the bag with this! I will probably be wearing white ankle pants, a navy tee, and a fun long red necklace that I have. Enjoy your day!

  37. I would really love to shop at Nordstrom! I found several items that I’d love to purchase but haven’t done so yet. I especially love those Wit and Wisdom jeans that you wear!

  38. Reading your posts is one of morning habits! I love the Beauty for the Heart! Your style is so similar to mine! Good ‘Ole Southern! Mine is North Louisiana HOT!

  39. I really like your outfit Cyndi! I’m thrilled to see you wearing so many cute items from JCPenney & I appreciate you sharing so many affordable pieces with us. We will be in a small town in IL, outside of St. Louis, for the 4th. Due to the mosquito issue we will have to wear bug suits over our clothes, for the fireworks. I have connected to the link on Pinterest!
Have a blessed and safe 4th of July!

  40. Our church is having our 10th annual Freedom Fest! We expect around 3000 people this year, it’s a great day of celebrating our freedom both in our country and our freedom in Christ! We always have the biggest fireworks display in the area!! All of the volunteers will have the same t-shirts on, so styling it will be a little bit of a challenge but I’ll sure try!!
Happy 4th of July! (Next weekend!)

  41. Love the top! I looked on JCP site and found it’s also available in red! White shorts really make the color pop. Thanks for the idea Cyndi!

  42. I thoroughly enjoy seeing all your fashion ideas. I’ve lost weight and could really use the $100 gift card at Nordstrom to buy clothes in my new size 🙂

  43. Time is really flying by I cant believe that 4th of July is nxt weekend I love the quote and bible verse. this outfit is very cute i may need to change up my outfit for nxt weekend a little. also I have seen all the cute things you get from stitch fix so i sign up! My coworkers and i are very excited to see what i get
    Thanks

  44. I have white shorts and red sandals already but I will be checking out that cute blue shirt at Penney’s Thanks for the great ideas! I want to win that card!

  45. Love the blue and white outfit–very cute and very patriotic when you add the red bag. Not sure yet what we are doing for the 4th.

  46. I love your outfit for the 4th of July, and I’m crazy about the flowers in front of your house!!!

  47. Thank you for your fashion ideas and also for your contest opportunities! I’m always busy, and usually hot :-), helping with our little community’s special day on the 4th. I’ll be running the duck pond for kids.

  48. This out fit is so cute! I may just have to copy it…I have similar shorts and shoes – just need the adorable blue top! I also think your hair is very cute pulled in a pony tail!

  49. I think I need that wallet on a string. I would use it as my wallet in my bigger purse and then just take the crossbody bag for going to the movies, the mall, etc. And the red would be a nice “pop of color” for me. Hmmmm.

  50. That is SUCH a cute top. It’s perfect with the white shorts, and I love the neutral shoe with the outfit. I miss wearing heels. You look adorable and perfect for a 4th of July cookout! Thanks for teaming up with me on this. So fun!

  51. Love your blog. I’ll probably be wearing either white shorts or olive cargo crops, a navy tee, and a denim jacket if it’s chilly. Probably adding red & gold accessories to make it more Fourth-of-Julyish.

  52. I really love you blog and style… I am in the process of getting healthy and this would be such an awesome prize to win because one day I’m going to be wearing cute shorts and dresses just like you!! 🙂
